5 out of 5 stars You have to buy this CD and the other's.......2007-05-13

I purchased this cd by "accident" and boy am I thrilled I had this accident......Bobby Collins is a clean, hystical, and a wonderful comedian for lack of better words. I also purchased his "Out of Bounds" cd which is equally as wonderful. Wish he had more out there. My favorite "skits" on the I wanna go home cd is #11 and #12. So easy to relate to as he talks about his 3 daughters, tripping over hormones, how his cat treats him like kitchen help and how his dog thinks he is just th most wonderful man in the world. If you get the chance buy this cd and have it shipped overnight.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad.......2007-05-07

used to be a great comic. Still is good but too much old material.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious CD that kept my attention throughout!.......2004-09-03

I was listening to Sirius Sateliite Radio's comedy channel (Raw Dog) and heard a few of Bobby Collin's bits (for the first time) in the last two weeks and I was laughing hysterically after each one. So I went out and bought this CD...

Within an hour I popped it in my car's cd player and listened to it as my wife and I had to run some errands.. There were two sounds in the car while we were listening... silence as we were listening to the set up, and laughter at the payoff! The situations that Bobby talks about hit a little too close to home many times, and his responses to these situations were great...

I will definitely pick up more of his earlier D's in the very near future.. Listen to any of the sample tracks of this album and i think you'll be hooked...

Album Description

Holiday blues comin' on? Well, put a spike in `em! Here's the zaniest, wildest and just plain sickest Collectors' Choice Music exclusive yet—79 tracks from Spike Jones and his City Slickers! These represent Spike's complete Standard Transcription sides, but these tunes are anything but standard; Mr. Jones brought his full bag of tricks for these non-commercial recordings (made in Hollywood during the early `40s). Add to that the fact that most of these have never been on CD or even LP, and any lover of Spike's mayhem-filled mixture of laughs and hot licks is going to flip over this set! Notes and great pictures accompany this 3-CD walk on the wacky side from the greatest novelty band of all time.

5 out of 5 stars Great set of wartime rarities.......2003-05-14

Spike Jones was the king of the novelty song performers, with hits like "Der Fuehrer's Face" and the parody version of "Sheik of Araby" becoming huge hits during World War II. This is a swell 3-CD set, gathering a full eighty-one of Jones' best tracks from his 1940s heyday, drawn from an extensive archive of radio broadcasts made for the Standard Transcription service. The tightness of his City Slickers band is amply demonstrated in these manic, kookily orchestrated performances. Toots, squonks, blatts and bleats whiz by at lightning speed, as one daffy song after another will delight devoted fans. Amazingly, Jones had the unusual, almost unique ability to perform a repertoire almost entirely made up of comedic material, and yet still be quite listenable and engaging. His jazz chops were hardly in question, and from time to time Jones would dash off a non-novelty ballad or two, just to give the rubes something to think about. Of course, just as often he would perform a song that *sounded* like a straight ballad, but would turn out to be another goof. (One great example of this is the sultry "Serenade To A Jerk," sung in slinky, burlesque tones by Myrtle Horwin.) This collection may seem a little overwhelming, but like his studio recordings, these radio performances have a certain brilliance and joie de vivre about them that will leave you enchanted. Definitely worth checking out!

4 out of 5 stars Standard Transcription Collection.......2003-04-12

This collection has remastered material from the large stack of Standard Transcription discs from the early 1940's. There are many songs not recorded on RCA, many on the theme of wartime ("48 Reasons Why"), and the quality is excellent. The packaging is threadbare but this is an essential CD package for true music lovers.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great compilation of Otis.......2005-12-06

This album/CD is one of the great blues collections. Features Muddy Waters and James Cotton as well as Otis's early drummer S.P Leary on several cuts, but it's all Otis. At first thought this was a bootleg album, with lousy mixing (which it has!)on live cuts. But this is the real deal and gives you a good feel for Spann's artistry both as soloist and dynamite side piano for Muddy. After listening 2 or 3 times, I think this is probably the best Otis Spann album. You'll want more, but its all here. Won't drive my car without it!

5 out of 5 stars LD reviews Spann.......2005-09-26

This album takes me back to my childhood days in Mississippi
during the 1950s. The power and spirit of many of the songs evoke memories of the expansive cotton fields, of revivals in the sanctified churches, of juke-joints, and of Saturday night fish fries. The vocals of Spann were subtle and engaging and Muddy was bold and menacing. This album provides a true slice of the blues in Chicago, by way of Mississippi, during its heyday!
