Customer Reviews:
Heart still rocks........2004-10-21
Just got this yesterday. The Wilson sisters still have all the chops -- the voices and Nancy's guitar work are as great as ever. And the band they've assembled sounds great, too. OK, so how about the songs? Terrific. The shlocky power-ballads of the 80's Heart are nowhere to be found, and all the quasi-Zepplin influences from the early days are. Great tunes, great singing, great playing -- what a pleasant surprise. This might actually be their best album ever -- it's right up there with Dreamboat Annie. Now, I hope somebody is listening, 'cause Heart still rocks.
Jupiters Darling a Breathe of Fresh Air.......2004-09-05
Jupiters Darling is Hearts newest album, and it is definitley a winner. Hard rock songs give the album an edge over their earlier material. This album rocks hard on songs like 'The Oldest Story in the World,' 'Fallen Ones,' 'Move On,' and 'Vainglorious.' I will say that songs done by Nancy Wilson on this album are not really that great. As usual, its Ann Wilson and her voice that grab the listener. This is a must have record for anyone that likes previous Heart material.
Leading women of rock still ROCK!.......2004-08-22
I just saw Heart 2 nights ago in St. Charles, MO (St. Louis area). I have travelled the last 2 years to Nashville and Milwaukee to see them, my favorite band since Dreamboat Annie was released. I had front row center the other night and they performed about 8 songs from this new album. Everything on the album is real Heart. The Heart you remember from the seventies. I bought the import version of this album with 2 bonus tracks which I suggest you buy.
The songs have all the acoustic flare of the seventies Heart and all the bone crushing rock as well. The new songs were beautiful in concert. Most concerts, when a band plays to many new songs you get bored and want to hear the classics. These songs made me yearn for them to do the entire new album that night. They did sacrifice a few songs I would have liked to have heard such as Mistral Wind, Rockin' Heaven Down, White Lightning and Wine and Sylvan Song/Dream Of The Archer but the concert was truely a moment to last forever.
In this review, I do not wish to go into song by song details. I just want to encourage you to buy this and go see them on the remainder of this tour. Ann and Nancy if you are reading this, I have and always will get goose bumps everytime I hear a song by Heart or The Lovemongers. You have made my life complete. You are and always will be my favorite, hands down. Love ya!
Jupiter`s Darling.......2004-08-18
Let me start by saying I have been a Heart Fan from the first day that Dreamboat Annies was released. The truth is in my opinion this CD was not as good as the past Heart I love and remember.
Vocally and musically you can`t beat the Wilson sisters though this CD left me a little disappointed. Reading the reviews I have to agree that some of the songs are only good not fantastic.
The Heart of old had meaning and depth the power and the passion was always in my opinion their trademark.
Songs like the Women In Me, Wait For An Answer, Barracuda, to me are some of their best stuff.
I guess I was expecting more and didn`t get it especially after 10 years.
Like I said I have always enjoyed and loved Heart they will always be my favourite band in the world. Though this CD left me a little short.
It doesn't GET much better than this!.......2004-08-02
This CD was WELL WORTH the 10+ year wait- it is TRULY some of this band's BEST WORK EVER. In my opinion, this is Heart's BEST albums since 1980's Bebe Le Strange, which has always been my personal favorite.
In a much welcome 180 degree departure from their overly formulaic, "marketing machine" sound during the mid to late 1980's, this CD brings us back to what Heart is TRULY about (and should be about)- in your face, straight ahead, passion rich rock-n-roll, complimented by some soulful, melodic, heartfelt ballads to complete that perfect musical mix. This album's enormous versatility, with a little something that will appeal to everyone, is a prime illustration of exactly WHY this band is SO GOOD.
If you're looking for some of those famous, power-packed, Heart-fueled rockers, they are here in glorious abundance, with "Make Me", "Oldest Story in the World", "The Perfect Goodbye", "Move On", and "Vainglorious" being particular standouts. For something a bit more subdued, check out the playful "Things" and the ethereal "I Need the Rain", both sung by Nancy, or the melodically compelling, "No Other Love". The down home, funky, harmonica-laden "Down the Nile" is an undeniable good time, and then there is what is TRULY one of the best and most beautiful songs to EVER grace ANY Heart album, the hauntingly powerful "Lost Angel", a song where both lyrics and melody come together to create something that's so dangerously close to musical perfection it's downright SCARY.
In short, there is nothing on this CD NOT to like, no matter which way your musical tastes tend to run. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE- you WILL regret it, I promise you! The juicy bonus tracks on this import version make this an especially good choice, particularly for long time Heart lovers!
