Discovery! At the Five Spot documents emerging tenor giant John Coltrane's brief, but eventful six month residency with pianist-composer Thelonious Monk at New York's Five Spot. Monk was reestablishing his stature and drawing power as a jazz innovator while Coltrane grew by leaps and bounds studying Monk's repertoire and learning to navigate his compositions not just rhythmically and harmonically but thematically as well. Monk's melodies were too strong simply to run the changes, and on his extended jaunt Monk's tricky, intricate obstacle course "Trinkle, Tinkle," Coltrane attacks the harmonies with such compulsive power and blissful abandon, that you can hear whole new vistas of sound revealed to the tenor saxophonist. Recorded on a dinky tape machine by Coltrane's wife Naima, the sound is vague, hissy, and distorted--yet vivid and inspiring because on none of the few studio recordings documenting this period do Trane and Monk play with such unrestrained intensity. The mere existence of these tapes far transcends the shaky nature of their "production values." --Chip Stern
Customer Reviews:
I Mean You!.......2006-06-22
Get this disc for only one thing - Coltrane's insane, hyper-extended solo on "I Mean You!!" And that version of "In Walked Bud" is pretty damn good too!
Too bad it wasn't engineered.......2006-03-20
Great gig for Monk and Trane but quality of recording is very poor since it was mastered with a home tape recorded
Uninhibited Monk/Coltrane brilliance.......2002-10-22
Forget the poor quality recording, just listen to the music. This live concert shows Monk and Coltrane totall uninhibited, free to impose their visions onto the canvas of the music. Coltrane's solos are amazing, especially on 'I mean you'. There's also, among other things, a short and snappy version of 'Epistrophy.'
A fun little journey, and it doesn't sound too bad.......2002-04-11
I see that a lot of folks have been criticizing the sound quality here. When I found this at my public library I hesitated. We've all heard BAD recordings that were put out only to line someone's pockets. In this case, even if the sound quality were terrible, I would still argue for its release. For Coltrane fans especially, this is a rare chance to hear him in one of his least recorded periods. The music is fun and the sound quality is much BETTER than I was expecting. For me, it falls somewhere in between the static of very early 1920's recordings (Louis Armstrong comes to mind) and the house chatter of the classic Bill Evans disc "Sunday at the Village Vanguard." There is crowd noise, but not TOO much, the music is fairly well balanced as far as one microphone recordings go. Monk's piano occasionally comes close to drowning out Coltrane. Considering the circumstances under which it was recorded, I was pleasantly surprised by how listenable this disc is. Keep in mind, if you have not had a lot of experience listening to low-quality recordings or bootlegs, then you may wish to hear this before purchasing it.
Sound Quality.......2000-09-21
This is a sound album, quality quartet arrangements.
Excellent small band versions of "Epistrophy," "Trinkle, Tinkle," and "In Walked Bud." "Epistrophy" is radically different from other versions I have heard.
So what if the sound quality is that of a dirty bar room hurrah. That's what this is!! Not all great jazz can be Columbia quality reissues. I think the mumblings and minor defects in the master tape add to the ambience of the scene. Sort of time and spacey. Wine glasses, clanging...
Fine jazz from two of the greatest.

Can't sing? Listen again!.......2006-10-16
The 2 people (or is it 1 double posting) on here who say George Michael can't sing are talking nonsense. OK, you're Queen fans and in your eyes and mine nobody can ever replace Freddy, fair enough, but to say George Michael can't sing is like saying Posh Spice CAN!! It's absurd. I am a massive fan of Queen and on the day of the Tribute Concert it became all too apparent that none of the artists performing could hold a candle to Freddy for sheer vocal ability and performance, then right near the end of the concert George Michael took to the stage. WOW!!! Is all I can say, he nailed it. George sang his butt off that day and you could see and sense the crowd at Wembley appreciating someone who could actually pull it off. They loved it, I loved it and if you don't own this CD you will love it too. This is a fine performance from a fine singer. End of story.
GM - The King is the Best!.......2006-06-26
King George is the Best - When we gotta pick a choice of the best of the best of Pop, it's George Michael vs the rest of the rest. Yeah, pick any single or an album of George Michael, it's the hazy, soft and the tempting, sensuous n seductive voice of George that is irresistible to listen. In this Five Live, Somebody to love - I love this song with the repeats somebody...somebody...and teaming up with live performance of Queen, Freddie Mercury classic Somebody to love is the perfect song ever I like. Papa was a rolling stone is yet another superb presentation even with the video and Lisa n George prove their excellence with the music beats behind blending to perfection duo. Killer is one number that I love apart from its theme n lyrics. I would say, for a diehard fan like me, George Michael is great listening and when Queen is a choice with GM, by all means, Freddie Mercury too, stand out great pleasure listening. Go for Five Live - A must collection for a GM Fan till you cross your fingers and await for George Michael's latest new single "An Easiest Affair - Here comes one for the ladies..I have yet to pick this one!
Decent, but not essential.......2005-08-16
This short E.P. of mostly live performances was mainly an effort to hold fans over in-between albums. Some live performances with Queen were included, including a powerful hit rendition of the Freddie Mercury classic "Somebody To Love" (#30 US) and a lovely cover of Queen's "These are the Days of Our Lives," performed as a duet with Lisa Stansfield. Michael also performs live renditions of Seal's "Killer"(#69 US), which segues into the Rolling Stones' "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," and a stark, stirring performance of Bob Telson's Oscar nominated "Calling You" (from the BAGDAD CAFE). Also included, for somewhat inexplicable reasons, is a brief snippet of Queen performing "Dear Friends" from it's SHEER HEART ATTACK album. There are enough interesting moments to make this a fine listen for Michael's fans, however, none of the covers top the originals and most listeners will be able to live without it.
Mainly For George Michael Fans On The Whole.......2004-01-04
Perhaps if I were more of a George Michael fan, this EP would rate higher than three stars. While George does have some wonderful songs, I was never a diehard fan of his work. On this _Five Live_ EP, he teams up with Queen on the fantastic cover of "Somebody To Love," which was taken from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert (along with one other song here), and is hands down the main reason to get this EP, especially if you're a diehard Queen fan like myself. This rendition of the song gives me the goosebumps, and nearly sends me to tears -- just like the original version does. As a bonus, there's Queen's "Dear Friends," (from their 1974 offering, _Sheer Heart Attack_) which closes out the EP on a touching note.
The rest of the tracks, however, aren't as affecting, and are okay at best. "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" has more of an updated dance/club-mix flavor, as opposed to the original psychedelic-soul flavor of the original done by The Temptations. George's version of Queen's "These Are The Days Of Our Lives," also taken from the Mercury tribute concert, is somewhat affecting in regards to the purpose of the performance itself, but not much beyond that, and the other songs I won't even comment on. In short, Queen fans will probably want to own it for the commemorative purposes, the goosebump-inducing performance of "Somebody To Love," and maybe for "These Are The Days of Our Lives" (excluding "Dear Friends"), but will probably not care much for the rest of the album. George Michael fans will probably soak this up.
George Michael....more than just Queen........2002-08-21
This is a fun live cd. This is not just Queen. George's version of Killer/Papa was a Rolling Stone is great. Lisa Stansfield and George's duet is good. If you are a George fan, it's worth the 12 bucks. If you're not...check out the track listings before purchasing.

Excellent live CD..........2007-03-06
This disc had me right from the first song and didn't let up. As someone who has seen Richie Havens perform live this CD manages to capture the warmth and gentle spirit that Richie possesses and showcases his frenetic strumming style on the acoustic guitar. This CD was culled from two performances, one in 1970 at the Cellar Door in Washington D.C., and the other from 1972 at the Santa Monica Civic Center in California, and the liner notes explain that the previously released live version of "Here Comes The Sun" became a radio hit but the rest of the performance was shelved and not released until years later. Although the majority of the songs Richie plays on this disc were written by other songwriters (George Harrison, Stephen Stills, Bob Dylan, The Band, Fred Neil, and even one by Billie Holiday) this disc introduced me to Richie's own song "No More, No More", which I hadn't heard before and found to be very moving. There are several moments on this disc that are just too beautiful for words. Although the majority of the songs here are more low key and relaxed as opposed to a "Freedom" type rave up that didn't bother me one bit. The mellow nature of this disc really hits the spot every time I put it on, and as always Richie's voice is nothing short of phenomenal. The tracks where he talks to the audience also really reminded me of when I saw him live; he still does his humorous monologues at shows these days, and they always manage to make you smile while making you think. This CD really captures the strengths of Richie Havens as a performer and I would recommend it if you are a fan or are looking for an introduction to his music.
Always welcome.......2006-02-18
I have an Internet-only radio station that plays this album. I also have these cuts on different music mixes I carry on CD and i-Pod and I never tire of the soft, gently explosive sound of this great musician.
While I was unable to see Richie "Live at the Cellar Door" in Washingon, DC, I did get to see him twice at the Birchmere in nearby Alexandria, VA. It was the first time in years my oldest son and I got excited about the same music.
Buy it because it sounds great or buy it because it has some wonderful human reflection, or buy it just because it brings on such sweet nostalgia, but buy it. You'll be glad you did.
One other thing, go to Richie Havens dot com and look at some of the wonderful artwork he has done. He also has lots of nice gear there, too.
All best.
-Lee
HAVENS!.......2005-10-28
I love this album, I've listened to it a thousand times. The music, the stories, his voice, his lyrics are special, they are unique, and fun. This album led me to see him perfom at the "Bottom Line" in the West Village with Tin Tin, and the performance we saw was nothing short of astounding. Live at the Cellar Door was of course recorded years ago, still the aura that Ritchie Havens gives off on record or in person is that of warmth, respect, love, friendship, and passion, what else is there?
Avoid.......2003-07-30
I was expecting a tour d' force such as Mixed Bag. Not to be fulfilled. The songs are slowed down to the pace of dirges. Two tracks are wasted on 60's-esqu banter with the audience--once is enough, but after once, you'd rather have 2 more songs. Get a studio album. They are all great.
In search of a classic Richie Havens live show.......2001-08-29
I love Richie Havens as a perfomer. However, I found his live releases to be pleasant, but infuriatingly unsatisfying. Havens performed at lot of classic shows in the late 60s, early 70s such as Woodstock(1969), Isle of Wight Festivals(69 & 70), Atlanta Pop Festival(1970), any Fillmore East show, etc. His classic strumming and poignant vocal power captured the spirit of the late sixties hippie rock generation. Unfortunately, Havens seemed to pass up the chance for the public to hear the showstoppers. This live album and ON STAGE (1972, currently not available on CD) is made up of mainly slow/moderate tempo tunes that really do not epitomize what Havens made famous. A lot of them are covers. Many are good versions, but they are not from classic shows.I really want a live release that is a complete show from a classic concert or venue. One radio interviewer a few years back asked Havens if he ever planned to release his Woodstck set in its entirety, but he avoided the question and changed the subject. Strange. CELLAR DOOR does have its moments, and is from 1970, a classic year, but the entire show should have been released to make it completely worthwhile.

GOOD LIVE ALBUM FROM STRYPER.......2005-11-27
First off I want to say I really like live recordings. Mistakes and all,raw is the only way a live album should sound. Examples are Poison's Swallow The Live or Power To The People cd. It is so raw that it almost sounds like a bootleg. Dokken's Beast From The East is another great one...as well as Tesla's Replugged double cd. The last two being a bit more polished so even the raw sound comes though on your stereo really good. This Stryper cd is the same. Sounds a bit muddy, you can hear guitar reverb and to me that is a good thing. Roberts drums sound great! I personally don't like a band to make a live album and then produce it, editing mistakes and adding overdubs, etc. The quality of a good live recording is here.
The song selection could have been better I think. I think this should have been a double cd much like Tesla's Replugged. They have enough albums to do it and I wanted to hear so much more. I wish they opened with "In God We Trust" as they did when I saw them on tour as Robert climbed a pole to get to his drum kit on a riser. That or maybe "Soldiers Under Command"/"Makes Me Want to Sing" to get it started. Most of the hits are hear including a different version of "Honestly" as well as the rare song "Winter Wonderland". My list of must haves would have included "Shining Star"(would love to hear that one live!), "Keep The Fire Buring", "Always There For You", "Lady", "C'mon Rock", "You know What To Do",and "Together Forever" just to name a few.
Bottom line for someone thinking about buying this cd...This is a good live recording that features the major hits of the band. If you are a fan of To Hell With The Devil you will really like it as they play most of the concert from that album. I really wish they played four or five songs from each album and made a double live cd but I am still happy they have an official live recording out.
Stand out songs are: "Calling On You" "Free" "Loud'N'Clear" and "Caught In The Middle"
STRYPER LIVES!!!!!!!.......2005-09-21
STRYPER ARE AWESOME LIVE.I CAUGHT THIS TOUR,SO I KNOW.IF YOUR INTO THEIR ALBUMS,YOU'LL BE INTO THIS.A LITTLE POP METAL,A LITTLE HEAVY METAL,BUT IT'S ALL GOOD.CHECK IT OUT,IT'S OLD SCHOOL AT IT'S BEST.LOUD N' CLEAR N' IN YOUR FACE!
Gives me chills!!!.......2005-09-04
Never made a review before, so will make this short and SWEET (Pun intended :) I grew up listening to these guys since day one. Although my timing is a bit off, I just picked this CD up today. This is by far one of the best live recordings I've ever heard! It's hard, heavy, and I don't think any of the band members made any goofs while performing. If you love the heavier Stryper tunes, you HAVE to get this. You will not be sorry! The bass, heavy guitars, the perfect playing......get it before it's almost impossible or highly priced, you won't be sorry!
LIVE!!!.......2005-08-29
Yes thats right stryper is back in action w/there latest work a live cd! This cd speaks volumes on the bands sucess all throughout the 80's and early 90's. It has all the classics To Hell w/the Devil, Makes Me Wanna Sing, In God We Trust, Soilders Under Command just to name a few on the 14 track live cd! Its an hours worth of classic 80's christian thrash metal. So whether your a newcomer like me or you've been there the first time around its a classic showcase of all there work.
awesome live cd.......2005-05-21

Best so far.......2007-05-16
This collection showcases Legacy 5 honoring God, honoring their Christian music Heritage, honoring each other and truley bringing praise to the Kingdom. The depth of emotion hearing Roger Bennett once again and the quality of the music and message add to this worship experience. I can not choose a favorite song from this cd. The entire piece is a complete package.

Customer Reviews:
a terrific compilation for beginners.......2006-02-07
I agree with P. Grupe-for classical music lovers, it is a let down to listen to cut tracks of well-performed classical greats, like Chopin's 1st piano concerto in this collection. Nonetheless, this is a terrific compilation for people beginning to get interested in classical music. This compilation is an eclectic mix of the familiar (Beethoven's moonlight sonata, Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini variation no. 18, Myer's Cavatina, Barber's "Adagio for Strings, etc.), the contemporary (Michael Nyman's The Promise, Horner's My Heart Will Go On), and the truly moving (Bach's Double Violin Concerto, Bruch's Violin Concerto, Schubert's String Quintet in C)-relatively obscure pieces usually left out in less inspired and mediocre classical music compilations. It is gratifying to see that opera music has not been left out. Get this cd if only for the Maria Callas tracks, Lucia Popp's performance of Strauss' Beim Schlafengehen, and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa's Addio del passato.
"Classical heartbreakers" broke my heart.......2004-06-27
I am an avid listener of classical music, and I purchased this CD expecting to get some of the best classical music ever composed. I guess I expected a bit much though. Although the recording is filled with high quality performances of fantastic pieces, I was disappointed to find that only about half of the pieces are contained in their entirety on this 2-disc set. Songs such as Rhapsody in Blue and Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata were not recorded in full for this album, which caught me off guard and bothered me quite a bit.
Anybody who is unfamiliar with classical music will appreciate this album. Since it features some of the most moving classical pieces ever written, it is sure to entrance listeners. And by not placing entire 10-minute pieces on the CDs, it will not run on and bore those unaccustomed to the length of most classical music. However, if you are already well-versed in classical music and can listen to entire symphonies with ease, I would advise against buying this album. I now feel a desire to go out again and find the full versions of some of these pieces, since I feel I was cheated by only getting introductions or short movements on most of the album. Guess I should have paid a little more attention to what I was buying.
A Fantastic Compilation.......2004-05-01
Most of the musical pieces in this compilation are from versions as they appear in various movies. This is Classical music from classic movies such as: Somewhere in Time, Schindler's List, English Patient, The Piano, Platoon, et al. But make no mistake; the music is what's really worth mentioning here.
The title says it all. It claims to have "the most moving Classical music of all time," and they certainly have a case, as it is chock full of the kind of emotional pieces that can easily bring you to tears. This double CD compilation with 37 passionately beautiful pieces is a steal at $16.99.
If you've ever recorded your favorite songs on to tape, or burned them on to a CD, you'll see that this compilation is exactly what EMI Records has done. It is like a greatest hits, volume 1, of poignant Classical music. Almost all of the musical pieces are classic favorites, though there are a few contemporary ones also.
I found the music on this CD powerful and moving as advertised, and I think that Classical music fans should truly enjoy it. It is well worth the price it's being sold for, and I highly recommend it.

Authentic, Pure and Fun!!!.......2003-07-03
This live set captures the essence of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and the connection they've cultivated over these many years with their fan base. Typically someone not enamored with "Live" albums, I found myself fully engaged by the artfully delivered performance of the NGDB captured at Red Deer. Their unique blend of country, folk, and rock is an enjoyable experience for all.
There are a lot of great songs on the disc, and picking a favorite often depends on what I'm needing to listen to in that moment. The songs are fun, inspiring, and easily turn around any frown I may have had. Some of my favorites are "Stand A Little Rain", "Dance Little Jean", "Fishin' In The Dark", and... I could list them all actually.
I've had the pleasure to experience the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band live twice in my life. Once as a young child and again in my adult years. To this day they remain two of the most memorable performances in my mind. This disc brought those memories back vividly. NGDB is great at connecting deeply with each individual during their performance while also spreading an infectious wave of fun throughout the audience. For that reason "Live Two Five" keeps a prominent place in my CD changer.
A Great Show With The NGDB.......2002-12-14
I've long been a fan of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I can still remember "Mr. Bojangles" from the early 70's. And while pop & country radio weren't exactly kind to these guys throughout most of the 70's, they still hung with it. They had a number of musicians in & out of the band. But through it all, they remained strong, played their brand of music, and stayed true to their roots.
I love the fact that theyr recorded this show at a smaller venue in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. They could have recorded this in a giant stadium opening up for a country headliner. But doing it this way only added the warmth of the evening. It also produced a better intimacy with the crowd as well.
Most of their popular hits are included here. Anyone who grew up to them or listened to country radio during the 80's will be familiar with the set list. My favorites from this disc are "High Horse," "Dance Little Jean," "Working Man," "Stand A Little Rain," and "Baby's Got A Hold On Me." Of course, a NGDB show isn't complete without "Mr. Bojangles." It's included here, but with a slight alteration. The last time the chorus is played, the audience sings it by themsleves without the band singing. Then, once the song is finished, Bobby Carpenter says, "Congratulations! You're on the record!" As one would expect, the crowd then goes into a thunderous roar.
One of the different sort of gems is "Ripplin'Waters." The song was written by Jimmy Ibbitson right after they moved to Colorado in 1970. It was initially intended as a sort of "postcard" to the family and friends back home in California, where they originated. This version is a bit different than the original. There are 5 solos in this song-acoustic guitar, electric guitar, harmonica, piano, and bass. Jimmy Ibbitson trades the acoustic guitar for the bass during the piano solo. In fact, Bobby Carpenter's piano solo is the best part of the instrumentals during this song. This song clocks in at over 10 minutes long. But you almost can't tell because of how well the solos flow smoothly from one to the other.
I do have a couple of complaints about this disc. First, I think they could have made it a double disc and included some songs that weren't here. What's missing is "Oh What A Love," "Down That Road Tonight," "Shot Full Of Love," "Modern Day Romance," "Fire In The Sky," and "Home Again In My Heart." This camplaint is merely a mionor one. I guess to save money to the buyers, it was more feasible making it a single disc.
My other complaint is that this was recorded during John McKuen's 15 year absence (he came back to the band in 2001. Horay!). Noticably absent is John's trademark playing on the banjo and fiddle. I think it would have added that extra texture that they've always been famous for. Without John, the NGDB had to re-work his solos with keyboards and guitar. But again, this camplaint is minor. The stellar singing and playing on this disc makes the show worth it anyway. If I were the NGDB, I'd do another live CD soon with an expanded catalog and with John playing on it. I think it's long overdue.
As another reviewer stated, no one does country rock like the NGDB. I'd also add that no one blends, rock, country, & folk like these guys do. Kudos to these guys!
Pay homage to some of the orignators of country ROCK.......2002-08-23
Before the Eagles, Alabama, Diamond Rio, Lonestar and all other country rock bands...there was the Dirt Band. Considered by some to be the first to implement rock 'n' roll in country, these boys did it and, unlike other bands, still held true to their country roots. The only problem with this cd and the individual albums with these songs on it, is the fact that John McEuen was not with the band during this time, so the songs lack the incredible talent that he brings with the fiddle, mandolin and of course the mandolin that the albums have. Overall though this is an incredibly fun album. Without it officially being called the "Greatest Hits" album, it has all the great ballads, love songs and classic country rock that has made the Dirt Band last so long.
Great album by NGDB.......2002-02-23
Until my tape of Live Two Five wore out, I listened to it constantly. I think the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band enjoyed making this record, and it showed.
The highlights here are numerous. My favorite cut on the record is "Mr. Bojangles". Jeff Hanna sang great on NGDB's 1970 version, which is on the band's Uncle Charlie album. The song in my opinion sounds even better live. In addition to Hanna's singing, Bob Carpenter's stellar piano and accordion work highlights this track. Another older Dirt Band tune which is featured is Jimmy Ibbotson's "Ripplin' Waters", which originally appeared on NGDB's 1975 album Dream. "Ripplin' Waters" is a well-written song, but I think it's often overlooked because it wasn't played a lot on the radio. On the live version, the Dirt Band plays all of their instruments except the accordion. Also, Ibbotson and Hanna both do some fine lead guitar work on "Ripplin' Waters", and Carpenter contributes a piano solo which had me mentally exclaiming "Awesome!" the first time I heard it. In my opinion, the live version of "Ripplin' Waters" sounds better than the original studio version--and the original was a great song to begin with.
A third highlight is "El Harpo", an instrumental featuring Carpenter on piano and Jimmie Fadden on harmonica. Fadden plays his harmonica frequently on Live Two Five, but on "El Harpo", a rollicking, bluesy number, he especially shines. Carpenter and Fadden practically outdo themselves on this one.
Besides the three songs I previously mentioned, the Dirt Band does a lot of their other classic hits, among them "High Horse", "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere", "Fishin' In The Dark", "Long Hard Road", "Cadillac Ranch" and "Partners, Brothers And Friends". They sound to me as if they are really enjoying themselves.
I've been a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band fan ever since I was in college in the 1970s. The guys in the Dirt Band make excellent music and have fun doing it--and when they get on stage, as they did when they made this record, they are awesome. From start to finish, Live Two Five is a great album.

Album Description
The Ventures are the most successful instrumental group of the rock era, having sold over 50 million records since 1960. Their worldwide popularity continues today, drawing huge crowds to their concerts. The live performances included in this collection were recorded between 1990 and 2002, and were taken mostly from their very successful tours of Japan. This two CD set is the first-ever live anthology collection released by The Ventures, and is a must-have for any Ventures fan. Every important song the group recorded is featured, including "Walk-Don't Run," "Hawaii Five-O," "Perfidia," "Secret Agent Man," and of course "Walk-Don't Run '64." This release also features some of the last recordings with original drummer and founding member Mel Taylor (he plays on the first eight tracks). This two CD set comes complete with an eight-page booklet featuring photos and a new interview with the band.

First CD 3 Stars Second CD 5 Stars.......2007-05-04
Most of the songs on the Second CD & House of the Rising Sun on the first CD have Nokie Edwards on lead which makes a BIG difference. While Bob Bogle & Jerry McGee are very good, Nokie's guitar playing is on a much higher level. Even today at age 72 Nokie still has the chops. He was Buck Owens orginal lead guitar player (Pre-Don Rich) & while is first love has always been CW Music, surf pays the bills! i would concur the mid 1960's LIVE Japan concert has more energy, they are better players today. How the Ventures could NOT be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is unbelieveable!!!
Its good but somehow lacks the punch from their sixties live performances.......2006-09-09
Although this double album has very good recordings and clear sound, for me this compilation of live performances (from 1999 to 2002)don't have the same energy and punch from the early 60's. If you are new to The Ventures I rather recommend "The Ventures Live in Japan '65".

One of the best finds out there.......2003-06-11
I just saw Doria in concert in D.C. this weekend ( June 15th). She sang three of the songs off this live cd. I immediately went down to her booth and bought her cd without listening to anything else. Just for the one song "perfect" was worth the money....however, I was not disappointed with the rest of the album. She has one of the freshest, and charming styles of singing and playing guitar that I've heard in quite awhile. There was not one track on the entire 2 cd set that I didn't like. A kind of 90's folk/rock Armatrading/Chapman mix only better.....all original work....from the heart...love songs, social statements, fun songs...all very melodic...great lyrics! Try it...I guarantee you'll love it. As an aside, she was also quite charming and friendly in person..one more reason to support such a wonderful artist.

a great live CD, with mistakes, audience participation and a wonderful, gifted performer!!
recommend to anyone who likes to listen to good music over and over and get something new from the songs each time...
