if you like slade you will love this record great songs and a bit of sentiment to go with the rocking numbers as well. check out slade in flame as well this is the soundtrack to that movie.

5 out of 5 stars Another (TOO many times) overlooked Slade classic........2004-02-22

This album is a MUST for any serious music fan to have in their collection. It is a slight departure from some of their more well known stuff, but, it`s STILL Slade.

This is a WELL crafted album and tracks like `How Does It Feel` - `So Far, So good` - `Far Far Away` are finally being recognised as the Classic`s they ARE and all the tunes on this album are good.

I have been a Slade fan since the age of 10!, but, in all honesty... now (39) and for many years I can really hear a lot of things I did not in all those younger years - I should add I like a LOT of music and this IS an unbiased and honest opinion.

Buy now!... SERIOUSLY... I will be very surprised if ANY true music fan would be disappointed with this album.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best of all their rest !!.......2004-01-18

Absolutely, this album / cd is one of Slade's best pieces of work.Even today at age 41, I still bring out the old Slade tunes and remember the past. Yes ! these guys were on the scene way before Kiss, Aerosmith and some of the other great groups, but Slade was the most original. I would tell everyone to buy this album first, then get their other albums from the beginning. Excellent !

      4 out of 5 stars Slade - of course!.......2003-01-29

Slade is a party rock band that critics never liked. I can't decide if the guys in Slade had a good time during the 1970's but it sure as hell sounds like they were. But be aware that maybe this record is the bands most "serious" release. Outstanding songs are "How does it feel?", "So far, so good" and "Far away" - three of Slade's best songs ever!

Almost every Slade album has its share of top quality songs. It's hard to choose the very best studio album but "In flames" should be included in the top 4 together with "Old, new, borrowed and blue", "Nobody's fool" and "Whatever happened to Slade?"

My suggestion is that you start with "In flame" and if you like it - go ahead and buy all the rest...

5 out of 5 stars How Does It Feel?.......2002-12-13

These guys were beltin' it and glitterin' it long before Kiss, Aerosmith and other American groups. I have the lp and quite a few other Slade lp's - they're priceless! You wanna rock - get this lp/cd! Great stuff! HOW DOES IT FEEL!

4 out of 5 stars Not as much fire as other albums.......2001-01-04

Slade's journey into the world of film and acting was seen by many as a mistake. However the film received reasonably favourable reviews. The problem a lot of the industry had was that it was too true to life, reflecting the seemier side of the business at that time. The album eminating from that film is a mixture of the hard edged with the occasional softer track. The album's stand out track and arguably their most acomplished song ever, is "How does it feel". the song commences with slow piano hook and Noddy Holder's vocal, at this stage surprisingly restrained for such a powerful singer. The song builds with the introduction of the rest of the band and an orchestra and creates a wall of sound that is contrastingly both electrifying and beautiful. The song ends with the Jimmy Lea's piano and a beautifully constructed bass solo. The majority of the album comprises fairly standard Slade songs. However one other song grabs the attention and that is "Far far Away". The song has received a bit of a revival in the UK with Ford using it on their adverts for Transit Vans. It is a happy and uplifting song again underpinned by Jimmy lea's dynamic bass lines. Whilst not the best Slade studio album ("Til deaf us do part" has that honour in my opinion) it is a worthwhile purchase from an historical perspective as the film showed Slade as more that just a good time band. It is also worth the money just for "How Does it Feel". If you like Slade, you'll like the album.

I may be partial to this album as it was the first Slade album I ever bought, but this album rocks! "Them Kinda Monkeys...," "OK Yesterday was Yesterday," and "Standin on the Corner" are all Barn burners, and the Ballads "How Does it Feel?" and "Far Far Away" are both excellent. Note that the original US album had "Bangin' Man" and "Thanks for the Memories" instead of "Heaven Knows" and "Summer Song." The guitars are totally over the top, and "Lay it Down" still makes me smile.
