Originally released in 1975, this was Aerosmith's breakout recording. Listeners only familiar with their more recent, post-comeback material may be surprised; like their other albums from the 1970s, Toys has a strong blues inflection, as indicated by their cover of "Big Ten Inch Record," which also shows that Aerosmith has never lacked raunchiness or innuendo. There's also the original (pre-Run-D.M.C.) version of "Walk This Way," and the classic "Sweet Emotion." This is classic Aerosmith at its gritty, streetwise best; they may have been derivative, but it really doesn't matter, then or now: it's all in good fun. --Genevieve Williams

Other than rockin' and partyin', Aerosmith only cares about fourteen things, and all fourteen can be found on the female anatomy. These guys aren't trying to save the world, they're just playing hard and horny, no holds barred rock n' roll. They're loud, they're audacious, and they rock like their lives depend on it. It's kind of like being in a street fight. It may not be proper or honorable, but you use every dirty trick you know, because it's either his a** or yours. And that's pretty much the way Aerosmith plays rock n' roll. They pull out all the stops, use every trick in the book, and throw everything at you and more. That's just fine with me! Their third album, Toys In The Attic (1975) is a rock classic and one of their best. It includes their big hits Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Also here are the wide open rockers Toys In The Attic and Round And Round. Uncle Salty is sort of an Ozzy meets The Beatles kind of song, and Adam's Apple rocks with slide guitar and sexual innuendo ("She ate it, never knowing wrong from right"). Then there's the hilarious rock-swing boogie of Big Ten Inch. No More, No More is a slow/fast rocker that sounds like it would have fit just as well on their Get Your Wings album. The album closes with the emotional ballad, You see Me Crying, complete with orchestration. Like all of Aerosmith's power ballads, it really brings home the goods. Of course, every Aerosmith fan knows Toys In The Attic is essential. If you're just starting to get in to Aerosmith, this is a good place to start. I suggest you also pick up Get Your Wings (1974) and Rocks (1976) along with Toys In The Attic. All three are good, loud, and energetic hard rock.

Toys in the Attic is an overrated, overplayed disaster.

The only decent songs are the title track and "Uncle Salty". "Walk This Way" has a unique vocal melody for the time it was released in the mid 70's, but that doesn't mean I like it. "Big Ten Inch" sounds like some fake novelty song that wears thin after a couple listens.

"Sweet Emotion" is a decent song, but the live versions are MUCH better because the song demands a lot of energy, which this studio version lacks. "No More No More" is Aerosmith's version of a pop song, and an unmemorable one at that. "Round and Round" is a rip-off of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" and for some reason, a hard rock band thought it was a good idea to end an album with a ballad called "You See My Crying", complete with overdramatic emotions that sound forced and unreal.

Aerosmith is a pretty fantastic band, but Get Your Wings is the place to start. Or buy that live album released in the late 70's.

Aerosmith is a real enigma in rock history; a band that was nothing short of brilliant in its first era through "Night In The Ruts", and the original line-up reformation of "Done With Mirrors" that turned into a cliche of themselves.
Not that it mattered - new listeners dug "Permanent Vacation" and the new crop of albums, while the old school hated the new work. Aerosmith is rich beyond their wildest dreams, and probably doesn't care about the opinions of the fans who brought them into prominence in the first place.
"Toys In The Attic" was the third release for this Boston band, and the Stones/Yardbirds hybrid sound coalesced into their own style that was only hinted at on the first two releases. The title track rips, and the blues swing hard on "Uncle Salty" and "Adam's Apple", a funny story of the Garden of Eden. The classic "Walk This Way" follows, with its funky rhythms and impossible to not love guitar riff. Tyler's lyrics are smart, witty and urban. It can be said that rappers and hip-hop musicians probably learned a lot from his lyric style, the re-making of the tune with Run-DMC providing proof of that argument, although the original is far better.
"Toys In The Attic" isn't the toughest Aerosmith - that would come next with the unbelievable "Rocks" album. It is probably, however, the best songwriting the band did overall.
This, "Rocks" and the first two albums, "Aerosmith" and "Get Your Wings" are the best the band had to offer, and that was a lot. Too bad they've resorted to cheap Rich Little impersonations of themselves and released way too many hits packages. Time to call it a day, boys.

This by far my favorite Aerosmith CD. They were at their zenith at this time. Every cut was a gem and a true rock classic cd and belongs in any worth while classic rock collection.

It was great to be able to replace 3 of my favorite aerosmith records in one fell swoop. I enjoyed listening to all the old stuff that hadn't been on radio for some time. Also, my 20 year old daughter told me that "Get Your Wings " was awesome, and she burned it into her ipod. High praise indeed!

The first Aerosmith album was extraordinary, exploding with an energy not unlike the early Rolling Stone or Who albums.
Their second and third albums were just as strong.
Having them all in one box set is a great. You'll never get tired of hearing these tracks.

I own each album seperatly, and each one is a 5 star album, and to get all three in one place for this price is a steal, this is Aerosmith's first three albums, and maybe their 3 best, you be the judge. I would recamend this to anyone a new or old Aerosmith fan or for anyone who just loves good ol' american Rock and Roll

time fan,it gave me a lot of insight into the band and the music.If you`re new fans or not,you will be enthralled.

I just purchased this box set and when I got home I inserted the three cds (seperately) into my cd player and still can't get them out. As soon as one cd ends another one goes in. The best songs on the cds are (in album order): From Aerosmith: 1. Make It, 2. Somebody, 3. Dream On, 4. Mama Kin, 5. Movin' Out. From Get Your Wings: 1. Same Old Song And Dance, 2. Lord Of The Thighs, 3. Spaced, 4. Woman Of The World, 5. S.O.S. (Too Bad), 6. Seasons Of Wither, 7. Pandora's Box. From Toys In The Attic: 1. Toys In The Attic, 2. Uncle Salty, 3. Adam's Apple, 4. Walk This Way, 5. Sweet Emotion, 6. No More No More, 7. Round And Round, 8. You See Me Crying.

Just because I left out some songs from each does not in any way mean that those aren't great tracks. Listen to the whole cd before you try to find the best from each one. The best thing about this set is that it includes the origional version of Same Old Song And Dance. If you only heard the version on their greatest hits cd it edits the Gotcha with the cocaine they found with your gun part. All three cd's are excellent and you need to buy them to get the full Aerosmith experience.

As other reviewers have said this is a classic Aerosmith album and it has not sounded this good in a long time. It has been a while since I listened to Toys on LP and I have to say that this SACD is very analog. I'm not a big analog LP guy but I tend to like the warmer sound especially for these older recordings. I'm not much into the multi channel mix so this review is of the Stereo mix and it is much more detailed than you might expect Aerosmith to be. Better imaging for sure but a little less raw than some might like. The bass and drums are much more defined and clean which I like. Steven Tylers voice is very prominent as usual. Bottom line is that if you like Aerosmith, have an SACD player, and don't alreay have this CD then get this version now!

I recently purchased a 5.1 surround sound system. Naturally I needed to load up on some 5.1 CD's. I did alot of poking around, bought a few. Some impressed me some did not. Then I rememebered getting a SACD Sampler from Rolling Stone magagzine. Aerosmith's "Sweet Emmotion" is on it. Without a doubt , this is what SACD's should sound like. Alot of SACD's sound like an entirely new mix. Many things are lost (like the bass) and others are too prominent in the mix. This one just kicks. When the bass comes in and the song starts to rock, your'e SO glad you have it in SACD!!! The album is a classic, there should be no doubt about that. This just improves upon it. Highly recomended.

Released in 1975,"Toys In The Attic" perfected Aerosmith's brand of Stonesy hard rock,R&B, and Led Zeppelin heaviness,thus giving the band its commercial breakthrough(it reached #11 on the Billboard album chart and sold 8 millon copies).The highlights are the super-funky "Walk This Way"(which was revived a decade later in a version by the rap trio Run-DMC,which featured Steven Tyler on vocals and Joe Perry on guitar),the grinding,lusty "Sweet Emotion",the catchy "No More No More",the punkish title track,the menacing "Round And Round",and the beautiful closing ballad "You See Me Crying",but there's simply not a weak cut to be found here.If I could summon one word for the 5.1 SACD mix it would be AWESOME!Listening and comparing the standard 16-bit CD with the multichannel SACD is like comparing early spring and summer.The ordinary CD sounds good,but it sounds flat,compressed and muddy compared to the SACD version.The latter sounds full,punchy,clear and tough,much like music itself.You never heard "Walk This Way" or "Sweet Emotion" until you heard them here!(Note:This will NOT play on your standard CD player.Sorry!)

This review is specifially for the surround-sound mix of this famous album by Aerosmith, I have never listened to the stereo mix in my life. That being said, I highly recommend this SACD for it's nice surround mix of some classic rock and roll music. The surround mix of Sweet Emotion is just awesome, and Walk This Way now comes alive in a way that shakes the whole house and puts you right in the middle of the song. If you have a nice surround sound SACD system, I would highly recommend this disc. But there is a WARNING: This disc is a single layer SACD, it will not play on a CD player.

It can be said that rappers and hip-hop musicians probably learned a lot from his lyric style, the re-making of the tune with Run-DMC providing proof of that argument, although the original is far better.
    "Toys In The Attic" isn't the toughest Aerosmith - that would come next with the unbelievable "Rocks" album. It is probably, however, the best songwriting the band did overall.
    This, "Rocks" and the first two albums, "Aerosmith" and "Get Your Wings" are the best the band had to offer, and that was a lot. Too bad they've resorted to cheap Rich Little impersonations of themselves and released way too many hits packages. Time to call it a day, boys.

    This by far my favorite Aerosmith CD. They were at their zenith at this time. Every cut was a gem and a true rock classic cd and belongs in any worth while classic rock collection.

    I'm a big fan of great guitar albums and this one is no exception. The guitar work on "Walk this Way" is just fabulous. Perry and Whitford's other work on the rest of the album is great too. "Sweet Emotion" is another classic track while the title track is a great opener to the album.

    Why just 4 stars? Well, other than the 3 songs just mentioned, I thought the album was pretty short at less than 40 minutes for one and the album didn't flow quite as well for my liking.

    Indeed, the dreaded word 'filler' comes to mind for at least a couple of the tracks. But this miniature LP cardboard case remastered version of the album is just great! The improvement on the sound is very obvious and I just love the cool look of the cover.

    I started years back with the cassette and then the cd but I've worn them all out. I'm glad I got this Japanese cardboard cover version though. You will too....

    Toys In The Attic (1975.) Aerosmith's third album.

    By 1975, Aerosmith had begun to make a name for themselves. They were at that point where they were pretty popular, but still fairly far from being legends. Their first album, which was their 1973 self-titled debut, was good but not great, and uneven in many places. The band immediately improved with their sophomore album released the following year, Get Your Wings. Many a music fan claims that a band's third album is the one that makes or breaks the band. Is that true of Aerosmith? Would their third release, 1975's Toys In The Attic, make or break them? Read on for my review.

    I liked the band's first album all right, but I didn't love it. I thought Get Your Wings was a much better album, but still not perfect. And then I heard Toys In The Attic, and I can honestly say that this one blows them both away. It's with this release that the band truly came of age, at long last. All that potential that the band showed on earlier releases had been compiled and focused here, which made this their strongest release up to the time. Sweet Emotion, one of the album's singles, would become one of the band's biggest hits of all time. It's the most popular song on here by far. Walk This Way would become another huge hit for the group. Eleven years later the band would remake the song with rap stars Run D.M.C., but that version would pale in comparison to the original. Another fairly popular track (or should I say infamous) from the album is Big Ten Inch Record, a cover of an old blues song. The lyrics are highly questionable, which ultimately resulted in the song getting banned from several American radio stations back in the day. Fortunately, that controversy has long since vanished, since in this day and age, anything goes in the music world. But, the best track on this album is, by far, the title track. This little tune is more along the lines of classic metal than classic rock, and it puts similar works by other artists of the day to shame. The song is unjustly underrated! Uncle Salty is another excellent underrated tune. From start to finish, Toys In The Attic rocks hard and rocks right. It's an Aerosmith masterpiece.

    The Aerosmith catalogue was remastered and reissued in the nineties, but the remaster series is a disappointment. You get remastered sound quality, but no bonus tracks or any really nifty extras. Also, the record company chose not to do twofer reissues (a mistake that comes too often), which really pisses me off. A little word of advice, though - if you're new to buying Aerosmith's albums, there is a box available that has the FIRST THREE albums together, for one fairly low price. Get that - it's a pretty sweet deal.

    Toys In The Attic marks Aerosmith's coming of age in the rock and roll world. This album "made" Aerosmith. The band became rock and roll legends not long after releasing this album - and their legacy lives on and shows no signs of letting up. If you're a fan of classic hard rock, this album is a must buy.

    Originally released in 1975, this was Aerosmith's breakout recording. Listeners only familiar with their more recent, post-comeback material may be surprised; like their other albums from the 1970s, Toys has a strong blues inflection, as indicated by their cover of "Big Ten Inch Record," which also shows that Aerosmith has never lacked raunchiness or innuendo. There's also the original (pre-Run-D.M.C.) version of "Walk This Way," and the classic "Sweet Emotion."     Other than rockin' and partyin', Aerosmith only cares about fourteen things, and all fourteen can be found on the female anatomy. These guys aren't trying to save the world, they're just playing hard and horny, no holds barred rock n' roll. They're loud, they're audacious, and they rock like their lives depend on it. It's kind of like being in a street fight. It may not be proper or honorable, but you use every dirty trick you know, because it's either his a** or yours. And that's pretty much the way Aerosmith plays rock n' roll. They pull out all the stops, use every trick in the book, and throw everything at you and more. That's just fine with me! Their third album, Toys In The Attic (1975) is a rock classic and one of their best. It includes their big hits Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. Also here are the wide open rockers Toys In The Attic and Round And Round. Uncle Salty is sort of an Ozzy meets The Beatles kind of song, and Adam's Apple rocks with slide guitar and sexual innuendo ("She ate it, never knowing wrong from right"). Then there's the hilarious rock-swing boogie of Big Ten Inch. No More, No More is a slow/fast rocker that sounds like it would have fit just as well on their Get Your Wings album. The album closes with the emotional ballad, You see Me Crying, complete with orchestration. Like all of Aerosmith's power ballads, it really brings home the goods. Of course, every Aerosmith fan knows Toys In The Attic is essential. If you're just starting to get in to Aerosmith, this is a good place to start. I suggest you also pick up Get Your Wings (1974) and Rocks (1976) along with Toys In The Attic. All three are good, loud, and energetic hard rock.

    Toys in the Attic is an overrated, overplayed disaster.

    The only decent songs are the title track and "Uncle Salty". "Walk This Way" has a unique vocal melody for the time it was released in the mid 70's, but that doesn't mean I like it. "Big Ten Inch" sounds like some fake novelty song that wears thin after a couple listens.

    "Sweet Emotion" is a decent song, but the live versions are MUCH better because the song demands a lot of energy, which this studio version lacks. "No More No More" is Aerosmith's version of a pop song, and an unmemorable one at that. "Round and Round" is a rip-off of Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf" and for some reason, a hard rock band thought it was a good idea to end an album with a ballad called "You See My Crying", complete with overdramatic emotions that sound forced and unreal.

    Aerosmith is a pretty fantastic band, but Get Your Wings is the place to start. Or buy that live album released in the late 70's.

    Aerosmith is a real enigma in rock history; a band that was nothing short of brilliant in its first era through "Night In The Ruts", and the original line-up reformation of "Done With Mirrors" that turned into a cliche of themselves.
    Not that it mattered - new listeners dug "Permanent Vacation" and the new crop of albums, while the old school hated the new work. Aerosmith is rich beyond their wildest dreams, and probably doesn't care about the opinions of the fans who brought them into prominence in the first place.
    "Toys In The Attic" was the third release for this Boston band, and the Stones/Yardbirds hybrid sound coalesced into their own style that was only hinted at on the first two releases. The title track rips, and the blues swing hard on "Uncle Salty" and "Adam's Apple", a funny story of the Garden of Eden. The classic "Walk This Way" follows, with its funky rhythms and impossible to not love guitar riff. Tyler's lyrics are smart, witty and urban.       It's the first 3 albums, as advertised. 3 amazing albums though. Each cd has the red label with track listing design: I think other older Columbia albums were like that. The disks fit into the sides of that tall-shaped box easily enough, but you still get all 3 album jackets/booklets as well, just as if you bought them separately.
