5 out of 5 stars THE MARK MAY REVIEW.......2005-12-31

5 out of 5 stars Mark May is the Hottest Texas Roadhouse, Texabilly artist going by far!.......2005-10-22

I first heard Mark on a whim at a local music store and was blown away by his playing diversity and talent. He creates incredible melodies, facings and chord progressions that are a definate treat for the ears. I actually dedicated "Don't give up" and "Sweet Spot" to a wedding couple once in Wisconsin, and everybody keep asking who was that, they're great.
I have seen Mark play numerous times since finding out he routinely plays at a bar within a mile from my house.
I'm there everytime he's there. He also has very fine supporting muscians in his band "The Agitators". His side guitarist is one of the best I've seen and heard in a long time. Plays with incredible passion and intensity. His drummer, who I have also met, completes the music very well. If you are ever in Houston, do yourself a big favor and look "Mark and the Agitators" up.
You will be so glad you did!

5 out of 5 stars God among Giants.......2005-03-30

I'm from Houston, TX and know Mark personally. I've had opportunity to share the stage with him on several occasions, and have never left without feeling that I've been in the presence of greatness. He is an endless wealth of talent, not only as a guitarist, but one of the finest singers I've ever heard. Mark is not another SRV knock off. He's the real deal. He's toured with the Allman Brothers, and did a two year stint as guitarist for Dickey Bett's solo band, Great Southern. Besides that he's a hell of a nice guy. When you listen to this album, I promise you will buy everything he's ever recorded...

4 out of 5 stars Texas Blues - SRV style.......2005-03-23

May is the real deal. All the songs are his, no covers. Good rocking Texas blues. His guitar style, and even his vocals, are strongly evocative of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I wouldn't exactly call May derivative, but he sure listened to a lot of SRV growing up and working out his guitar licks. But he can write songs and play guitar all on his own.

4 out of 5 stars A Surprise for Mooney Fans.......2001-07-25

Although he is widely know among blues fans as an electric guitarist, Mooney began his career as strictly an acoustic player. This CD is a reissue of some of his early work on a small label. All in all, not quite as dark as his later work. Some good music here, though, despite a piano that overpowers the guitar on some tracks. And that voice ...
