Album Details

Digitally Remastered Compilation Chosen by the Staff of Mojo Magazine to Introduce a New Generation to the Great Rock Music of the Past. In their 60's Heyday, Many Thought the Byrds to Be Another in the Wave of British Invasion Bands. It was Only after Some Exposure that People Discovered that They were Actually American. Where the Beatles and Rolling Stones were Rooted More in R&b, the Byrds Had Electrified the Folk Music of the Decade and Struck First with their Cover of Bob Dylan's "mr Tambourine Man". Roger Mcguinn's Rickenbacker Guitar Style Brought it all Back Home for a Sound that was Distinctive Because of it and Instant Identifiable. Here is a Wonderful 24 Track Introduction to One of America's Great Treasures with Sleevenotes and Rare Photos from the Mojo Magazine Archives.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Needs better track listing..........2004-09-08

Overall this is a "decent" overview of the Byrds but includes way too many songs from their later era while leaving off too many great songs from their early period, e.g., My Back Pages, It Won't be Wrong, etc. This is very typical of the Mojo presents series, Spirit, Mott the Hoople, the Band. They ALWAYS leave off a number of great songs which is extremely frustrating.

4 out of 5 stars A Solid Collection.......2004-08-04

I had been searching for a Byrds collection for a while. I already have the reissued Younger Than Yesturday and The Notorious Byrd Brothers, and was looking for something to fill in the gaps.

What's so great about this collection is that the later hits presented - Sweetheart of the Rodeo onwards - are the best from that era. I'm also glad that they included "I See You" over, say, "Mr. Spaceman". Plus, something like this is going to be limited, so it's nice to have something that is on the obscure side.
