A two-CD live collection from a band left splintered by the departure of bassist-songwriter Roger Waters, Pulse is perhaps best noted for the blinking red light that was set in its spine upon initial release. It contains the remaining band (with guest musicians) performing the entire Dark Side of the Moon album, the novelty of which wears off soon after the crowd noise interrupts any potential intimacy. The crowd also sings along for several songs, which makes this either a great audio-video document or a misguided attempt at replicating the live experience. --Rob O'Connor

Excellent CD.......2007-07-05
This is an excellent CD for all who love live music and specially Pink Floyd, it comes with a 2 CD set and the art in the CD is awesome
Four stars for me.......2007-07-04
Finally I decided to bought this cd. First to say I had listened it a time ago and didn't care about it. So I decided to give a second chance. (Ten years after!!!) I must to say I love it!!!!!!!!.
Possibly the best live recording ever!!!.......2007-06-10
I went to this tour in NJ & NY when they came around. This captures the dynamics and excitement of those shows superbly! Excellent sound & production. Quite possibly one of the best live CD recordings ever. I highly recommend this CD to any current (or future) Pink Floyd fan.
An Excellent Document Of Live Pink Floyd.......2007-05-23
This 1995 live set simply kicks Delicate Sound Of Thunder's butt in documenting live Pink Floyd. The songs performed here try to stay true to their studio originals. As with the previous live set, this one also has a video version. It was recorded in October 1994 at Earls Court in London in support of the Division Bell album. There is also a complete live performance of Pink Floyd's best-seller The Dark Side Of The Moon which is the highlight of the whole set. The songs from the classic 1973 release stay to original form. Another highlight is Comfortably Numb in which David Gilmour probably does his best guitar work ever. The band members here feel more united than ever before doing their best work without having to contend with Roger Waters. The feud with Waters during their late-1980's tour probably marred their live performance as documented on Delicate Sound Of Thunder. Not here. This is pure, unadulterated live Pink Floyd.
Outstanding!.......2007-05-20
A MUST HAVE for any true Floyd phan's collection. Includes songs not on the also incredible DVD. You'll love it!

Back In Time.......2004-10-21
Listening to this CD was like a trip back in time. I was pleased to find that this album came complete with just about every song I liked to listen to back in the days on the way home from school. I've always enjoyed 80's music and this is the perfect compilation for anyone that wants an assortment of good songs on one CD.
Motivational Dance Cd enabled me to lose 30 lbs!!!!.......2004-02-13
I was a couch potatoe with no drive when I bought this cd awhile back. Since implementing this cd into my life, I have lost a good 30 lbs and still losing! It has motivated me from cleaning up the house to working out. When you have motivation, you keep moving, therefore you burn calories. I believe music changes the way you feel. If you want a great pick me up, I highly recommend Pulse.

Customer Reviews:
Great songs on this CD with a lot of different artists..........2007-02-11
This CD is growing on me by the minute! The classic voices of Rosemary Clooney and Bing Crosby are not to be missed. Mix that with the fun tunes from the movie "White Christmas" and the wonderful voices of Danny Kaye, Peggy Lee, the Mellowmen, and others... and you've got a treasure.
Warning: This is NOT the original movie soundtrack. I don't really think the origninal movie sountrack exists because I have searched pretty extensively. However, all the songs that were in the movie are included (some twice by two different artists, e.g. "Sisters"), most are just not the MOVIE VERSION of the song. Also, there are songs included that are not even in the movie (e.g. "Susie Snowflake", "Winter Wonderland.") All in all this is an excellent CD and well worth the price for the 22 songs.
Ultimate White Christmas??.......2007-01-11
Well I was a bit disappointed with this CD, it does not have many of the original recordings from the movie and the recordings that they do have sometimes lacks one of the artists that sang it originally, for example Rosemary Clooney is absent from the "Snow" number, which I found disappointing. Despite this if you like White Christmas the movie this is still a must have, just don't expect it to meet all your expectations.
Searched Over 20 Years For This!.......2007-01-10
I have searched over 20 years for the orginial soundtrack to White Christmas. While this is not exact to the movie, it is close enough for me, and brings so many happy memories of my mom, who passed away one Christmas when I was young. All I need to stir a warm thought is Bing's "Count Your Blessings". It is the last song my mom sang the night before she died and I just get the chills. ANY fan of this movie, this soundtrack is a MUST for you! Highly recommended!
Finally - A White Christmas Soundtrack.......2007-01-10
This was a difficult disc to find at local stores. Lovely soundtrack - just like the movie. Amazon did the job.
This Recording Is All we Have sadly.......2007-01-08
Each december 1st I wish and hope and pray that the original 1954 soundtrack to this holiday classic would make it's cd debut, but it never does dammit!. I bought this cd and have to say that it's very good, and is the nearest thing we have to a movie soundtrack of this Irving Berlin jewel. I love this cd and have played it many times, even after the holidays are over. We can only hope that a ligit recording comes out someday, but untill then, this is a fun disc. Mike

glaring omission.......2007-02-08
Nice collection, but conspiciously missing
is his signature song: That Lucky Old Sun.
And, on this CD at least one of his best
known songs: Moonlight Gambler is a poor
ad-libbed rendition that does no justice
to the original recording on Columbia.
Jezebel: The Best of Frankie Laine.......2005-09-10
It is a very good album containing a number of Mr. Laine's greatest hits and some lesser known.

I'm an addict.......2007-03-29
I hate both Canadians and indie rock, but Metric rules! Don't ask me to explain, 'cause I don't get it myself.
Absolutely a must own!.......2006-12-28
I have to say, this album is just an awesome album all together, I got this album, and listened to it for almost 6 straight hours on a road trip and it quickly became one of my favorites.
She has a very unique flow to her beats, some are slow and mellow, with lyrics that are complicated yet you completely relate, and others are a little faster that you just gotta move too, it's a broad range of style and lyrics and I highly reccomend it to anyone who likes Poe, Garbage, Bjork or even the first Goldfrapp album, just luscious vocals and beats that keep you wanting more..
I give this album a high 5 in rating (scale 1-5)..
It's worth every penny..
So much more than just "poppy"!.......2006-09-15
I was first turned onto Metric a few years ago with the hauntingly beautiful "Hustle Rose". I was immediately hooked, and every song on the cd moved up into the top ten most played songs on my iTunes. I am disappointed to read so many reviews calling this cd "catchy", "dance-able", or "fun". While it is all of those things (for sure), it is so much more. The socio-political undertones found in "I.O.U." and "Succexy" are excellent, if you care to look. If not, you will enjoy this album regardless. While I definitely prefer Old World Underground to Metric's newest album, Live it Out, the best album is their first, entitled Grow Up and Blow Away. The progression of rock is seen in the release of these albums. Due to what I think were contractual disagreements, Grow Up and Blow Away was never widely released, but if you can get your hands on a copy, it's worth any price really. While Live it Out is their hardest music to date, and Old World Underground is pretty balanced between rock/chill, Grow Up and Blow Away is a complete relaxation cd. If you can't get enough of Emily Haines voice (believe me, it is exactly the same live - no doctoring for the albums - crystal clear and perfect), check out her solo album recorded some years ago, entitled Cut In Half and Also Double (a little difficult to find also, but worth the money - very coffee shop/folksy) or her new cd coming out on September 26 (it promises mainly chill music - centered around a piano and the ethereal voice of one Ms. Emily Haines). Hope you end up loving Metric and Emily Haines as much as I do!
Well worth the money........2006-08-30
I accidentally stumbled across Metric. I saw the video for "Monster Hospital" (from their other CD "Live It Out"), and was hooked immediately. From Old World Underground, Succexy, Combat Baby, The List, and Dead Disco became instant favorites of mine. I sometimes have trouble getting the songs out of my head. The songs are catchy and left me wanting more. This CD has made the cut and is one of the CDs I keep on my desk.
I think Emily Haines is a talented singer and I love to hear her voice. I also find what she has done on some songs to be lyrically innovative and interesting. Anyone can sing the words, but what Emily Haines brings to the table is original, interesting, and just plain fun to listen to.
There are three other people in the band as well. I think they all do a great job. The music may seem a bit simple to some, but that doesn't take away from the final product in any way. It's the emotion and energy that really counts, and Metric delivers.
An easy sell.......2006-03-25
I bought the Old World Underground and Live it out CD's after I listening to a couple of songs on the local public radio, however I was somewhat disappointed as most of the songs sounds pretty much the same, not very inovative and quite not deserving the title of being an indie band - mainstream enough as some of the songs could easily pass as being from No Doubt. If Metric had come out on the mid 90's for sure their songs would be populating the radio charts back then.
Said that, they do produce some fun music and have an amazing beat. You probably will enjoy if you do not have very high expectations

Jah Man! Good Ganja!.......2007-04-17
I ordered this looking for old school reggae and some of it is & some isn't. The stuff that is rocks. The other stuff I skip. I'll end up ripp'n the disc & downloading my favs. It was a great deal for the price & the large number of tracks, at least 20. I've been to jamaica twice & this disc brings back some great memories. Bob Marley is and will always be the king of Reggae. No Contest! Great tunes, Ice cold Red Stripe & . . . well you know. Party on mon! Ciao
A rather comprehensive compilation, Top Star.......2005-03-04
This is similar, in fact, to some compilations but it has a very generous 24 tracks, usually not found on those others such as something by the Ethiopians, "Train to Skaville" or even Althea and Donna's "Uptown Top Ranking" where I read in other parts of amazon, this song receives glorious reviews.
"Pass the Dutchie" people say, pop, but I spent extensive amounts of time in the 3rd world when this came out, "'Ow does it feel when you got no food", it hits the nail on the head, a bit poppy with a higher consciousness.
And any collection is heralded by me, if it includes Millie Small's "My boy lollipop", with unrest & strife in the USA; it still amazes me, this is SKA and it peaked out at #2 on the billboard charts, #1 in the UK; such a fantastic beat, easy going SKA trumpet, SKA on American AM in 1964... an alltime top of the pops great...recorded in London, very polished production, sold over seven million copies worldwide, originally an R & B hit for Barbie Gaye in 1957. that harmonica is purported to be none other than Rod Stewart; Chris Blackwell later promoted Bob Marley in part thanks to the funds that this single brought in for his fledgling company or something like that; copies of the single and extended play discs are now collectors albums, I wonder if she ever made it to any of those dance shows they had back then.
If some of the more recent classics are included, Inner City's well known "Bad Boys" and the great partying song "Montego Bay" by Freddie Notes and the Rudies let alone Ziggy and the Melody Makers fine "Tomorrow People", then Big Mountain's contributions and others should make the grade;
Tosh and Marley's ol' time Wailers songs, "Soul Shakedown" and "Lively Up Yourself" are excellent additions to this collection. That's more Ska like, those who know Bob Marley's Tuff Gong songstry are in for a nice surprise.
In the past, I had to hunt down Toots and the Maytals "Pressure Drop", classic, Clash & Robt. Palmer did it, but it's on this compilation as well as some other perenial classics, "By the rivers of Babylon", "Israelites", Crown Prince of Reggae Dennis Brown sings on this as well as Jimmy Cliff's Wonderful "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" too and of course, on of my personal favourites Third World, what a positive message they have and still at it. A well rounded collection. Often I don't find renditions of American hits to my taste, but Greyhound doing 3 Dog Night's "Black and White" becmes a grand civil rights statement; track 22 from 1974, "Hurt so good", check it out, the opening sounds much like the opening of Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey"; If you don't already have these songs, this one is very well done.
Spotty, hit-driven collection.......2002-08-30
This is a nice, if spotty, anthology of reggae (and related) tracks 1964 or so into the 1980s. Most of these were significant hits and are easily found on a number of collections, but not so easily found all together in one place. Essential listening : tracks by Jimmy Cliff, Johnny Nash, Desmond Dekker, Dave and Ansel Collins, Melodians, Toots and the Maytals. Disposable : Big Mountain, Musical Youth. Not in the same league as "The Harder They Come", one of the great albums of all time, but a nice sampler if your interest in the genre only goes as far as the hits.

Great.......2007-05-13
I have to confess that I've always loved the old Donovan songs and his suggestive slightly imperfect voice.
If you are like me it is the best CD you can by in the world.
A Nice Complication of Donovan's Early Work.......2006-07-18
This is a folk type record with Donovan accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica. Though many people of the day were heralding Donovan as the British Dylan, his music is really quite different. True he does play the harmonica, but Donovan has a melodic voice that Dylan, and most anyone else for that matter, could ever equal. "Josie" is one of my all time favorite Donovan songs. I heard him sing it when I was sixteen at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, California and was really blown away.
Of course, "Catch the Wind" Donovan's first huge single is everybody's favorite (if it's not it should be) and as a bonus the single version is included on this disc as well as the LP version. But one should not overlook "Colours" when listening to Don's early work. It's one of my favorite songs. "The War Drags On," is an anti Vietnam war song and I wish I was alive back in the day to see how people reacted to it. "Candy Man" is simply outstanding. I've heard Bob Dylan's version on the bootleg "Great White Wonder," and believe me, Dylan may have turned out to be the Poet of a Generation, but Donovan beats him hands down when it comes to performing and interpreting traditional songs. Just something about his Scottish voice I guess.
donovan doesn't colour by numbers .......2006-01-02
i've read in donovan's book "hurdy gurdy man" that he was one of the first singer/songwriters too mix politics with rock or folk
and suceeded jut like bob dylan did with his first 3 or 4 albums
anyway donovan is a talent that goes vasely un-noticed due to the sucession of bob dylan..who wrote excellent lyrics in his sleep.....
donovan also wrote excellent lyrics and beautiful melodies and this album shows where donovan could make abstract songs packed with a punch like "sunny goodge street" and his classic recording "universal solider" this album also features my favorites "the war drags on" "do you hear me now"
a man who had his heart right in the centre of what was going on in the world..a messiah who stands along side bob dylan as a truly great poetic genius

Album Description
Mixing impassioned political and social protest with stellar Rasta bats, these sons of Jamaican immigrants-led by David Hinds-rose out of humble Birmingham origins to become one of the U.K.'s all-time greatest reggae acts and a globallyl revered band. Their live shows-both headlining and opening for Bob Marley and others-are legendary. Steel Pulse's Elektra debut album, True Democracy, ranks as one of their strongest, and Earth Crisis further built on their legacy as musical innovators and human rights advocates. Often fusing elements of jazz, dancehall, hip-hop, and Latin music into a roots reggae base, Steel Pulse will forever remain icons of the genre.

Good album, even better remastered.......2005-08-09
In 1981 Steel Pulse was practically bankrupcy without any money at all.
They managed to get some free of charge studio time in a small recording studio in Denmark to make this album.
The result was one of their best albums of all time.
Now a better sounding remaster is out adding 4 new extended previously unavailable tracks to this fabulous album.
Recommended.

During the mid-'70s, Steel Pulse were among the most important culture lions to emerge from England's highly politicized and supremely educated Caribbean community. Contemporaries of Aswad, Black Uhuru and dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson, Steel Pulse produced a dub-heavy reggae that referenced African diaspora history and fed off of the burgeoning British punk rock movement. The resulting music was thematically dense yet readily accessible to a widening mainstream audience.
Unfortunately, the ambitiously titled Ultimate Collection doesn't quite live up to its name. The disc gathers 20 years' worth of Steel Pulse's vision, representing some of the group's biggest hits, but some of its best compositions (such as "Rally Round") are glaringly absent. No worries, though--the ability to hear "Handsworth Revolution," "Ku Klux Klan," "Babylon Makes the Rules," and "Uncle George" (Steel Pulse's tribute to Soledad Brother George Jackson) on a single CD compensates for the omissions. --Rebecca Levine

Steel Pulse.......2005-09-24
Steel Pulse "Ultimate Collection" is a very nice collection of the group's best work on Island in their early years. This is reggae from that classic late 70's period. A lot of the music from that timeframe is pretty good stuff across the board. Steel Pulse is no exception.
It's very relaxing, even when it's sometimes politcal in its message. The CD is missing a few good songs from when they switched labels in the early 80's though.
I would recommend this to fans of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. It's in that similar style of reggae.
Good music for calming down to.
The Greatest Introduction to Steel Pulse.......2005-03-06
Steel Pulse's "Ultimate Collection" is, overall, a great introduction to the world's greatest Jamaican-born British reggae unit. It contains several of the group's greatest hits spanning their entire career up to the compilation's May, 2000 release.
The compilation starts off with the title track of Steel Pulse's 1978 debut, "Handsworth Revolution," followed by the angry and beautiful "Ku Klux Klan," and the latin-tinged "Prediction". The CD also contains several other hits such as "Prodigal Son," "Tribute to the Martyrs," "Uncle George," and my personal favorite, "Babylon Makes the Rules". Each of these songs shows Steel Pulse's trademark unapologetic sociopolitical stance perfectly. The compilation also contains a dub version of the opening track, "Handsworth Revolution".
There are even traces of the group's lighter side with songs like "Caught You Dancing," "Burning Flame," "Evermore," and "Back to My Roots/Dub to My Roots". The compilation delves equally as well into the later years of Steel Pulse's career with songs like the millitant "Not King James Version," from the grammy-winning 1986 "Babylon the Bandit" album. Alongside the 1986 masterpiece are other later classics such as "No Justice, No Peace," and the straight-forward Dancehall-Pop influenced "Settle the Score," from the "Rage & Fury" album 1997, their latest album up to the compilation's release.
While there are a couple of obvious hits missing such as "Taxi Driver" and "Rollerskates," this hardly hinders the compilation. Steel Pulse's "Ultimate Collection," is sure to please any listener wanting an introduction to this fine band. This compilation will leave the listener pleasently surprised and asking for more.
my favorite reggae cd.......2002-08-11
Simply put, this is my favorite reggae CD. Better than Exodus, Catch A Fire, anything by Bunny Wailer, Tosh, Black Uhuru, Toots, Israel Vibration, Augustus Pablo, Burning Spear (although 100th Anniversary would be close), etc.
This CD has so many good songs: Sound System, Handworth Rev., Babylon Makes the Rules, Prodigal Son, Tribute to the Marytrs.
This CD will be very easy for someone who like rock and roll to get into as many of Pulse's songs have a hard, fast beat.
Whenever someone asks me where to go after Bob Marley, I always tell them Steel Pulse, Ultimate Collection.
Seriously go buy this or burn a copy from someone.
Pleased... but still a little disapointed.......2001-03-26
I'm a new reggae fan who is just getting into this music. I was first lured by songs by Bob Marley which after hearing I couldn't forget. I bought the cd "Legend" and was really pleased. This was a true collection of Bob Marley's greatest songs. I did some reading and I came upon a band called Steel Pulse. I downloaded some of their songs including: Steppin Out, Rally Round the Flag, Chant a Pslam, and Not King James Version. When I saw this cd I thought it had songs that were even better than these but was dissapointed. Don't get me wrong, the songs are great (especially #14), but I'm not sure this is quite a "Ultimate Collection." Now I've had to order "Smash Hits" in addition cause I looked it up and saw the songs I like. "Ultimate Collection" is a great cd that outlines Steel Pulses' progress in their music. Get this cd and also get "Smash Hits" if you want to hear this band at it's best.
Excellent!.......2001-02-25
This is an excellent album for any reggae fan, it has great songs and great rhythms, some of the great Steel Pulse hits are on this , Handsworth Revolution, Sound System, and Prediction, do yourself a favor and go buy this CD!!!

Another Dungeon Master's opinion.......2005-05-17
This disc really delivers! Not only is it great background for gaming sessions but the music definitely stands on it's own as cool listening/driving music. Dynamic pieces, a lot of instrumental variety, and just enough sound effects to enhance the mood.
As far as it's application to a game situation - I have to say this is the best fantasy RPG soundtrack I've ever heard (that seems to be the general consensus from the other DMs I've talked to on the convention circuit). The other soundtrack attempts before this one really pale in comparison in my opinion.
When I have the time, I like to go through all of my soundtracks and piece together a custom soundtracks for my games. This disc mixed with some Conan and any of the LOTR scores makes for a powerful combo.
More than often I don't have the time to devote to that. I'm pleased to say that in every session where I've JUST played this disc in the background, it's worked very well. A bit on the dark side but for a dungeon crawl I can think of no better music.
The coolest Gaming and Riding.......2005-01-21
I went to Amazon looking for more afordable book than the ones I had just bougth at Hastings and suddenly, I met a CD by the name of Dungeons and Dragons. I was not a Midnight Syndicate fan before mind you, but after hearing this CD in converted and now I am looking forward to gettineg other CDs by them. The tracks in it are great 2/3 of them are not gloomy or rather mysterious. But this makes sence when you are "descending into the depths" or looking in a secret chamber. I love the"Prelude" because it sets the mood of a Fantasy like wolrd, the harp is really cool too. I loved "Craft of the Wizard" and the one also after that. It is like a march and then there is some catapults hurling stones. I also like the sword sound effects. They sound metally but hey most swords are thin (except Claymores):> But the Best song of them all would have to be "City of Sails" It is great, It sounds like Final Fantasy VIII a little but its great. The great thing about this music is that you can picture the action thats going on. I pictured myself riding a horse to victory. It is also great listening to it while in the car, especially in the morning because it wakes you up and puts you in a "triumphant" mood. Also I wrote some poetry while listening to "Ruins of Bone Hill" and when i read it aloud with the music it gave it a great effect.
So all in all This is One of the few great buys that i have loved right off the bat.
I hope you enjoy it as well.
A GameMaster's Review.......2004-10-12
I agree in great part with the review by Ryan Marshall. I'll note that I have not listened to any other Midnight Syndicate works before this one, but I am making an effort to be objective.
My favorite tracks are the two `bonus' tracks, Ruins of Bone Hill and City of Sails.
The quality of this music (if you don't mind that it's synthesized and can appreciate this sort of thing) is a 4/5, which is a fairly high rating from me.
But as far as this music can be applied to roleplaying is a 2/5 at best...
Here's the problems:
1) The music all seems to have the dark/eerie flavor that seems to be the staple of Midnight Syndicate. This severely limits the themes, moods, and instrument sets that were used. The only exception is City of Sails. While this does not detract from the quality of the music itself, it would still be nice to have more variety in a collection that is supposedly `official roleplaying music'.
2) I rarely found that the intended setting for each track actually suited the music, but the sound effects that were included made it unusable for anything else.
For example, Beasts of the Borderland seemed to me to be a great track for an army on the march, until I started hearing strange `beast' noises that seemed out of place.
3) Speaking of out of place sound effects, I found that many of the sound effects were ambiguous, unfulfilling, or outright mood-spoiling.
For example, in both Skirmish and Final Confrontation, you hear the `clash of swords' at certain times. However, these `swords' sound like pieces of tin slapping against one another with minimal force rather than actual swords. Who uses tin swords? Besides, not all `skirmishes' in roleplaying actually involve swords...
Side Note: Many portions of the melodies were familiar and some outright recognizable as being nearly identical to some of those used in older console RPGs. Perhaps it was from such games that they drew their inspiration. It would have to be a very big coincidence otherwise.
If you are a roleplayer and/or enjoy background music and aren't penny pinching or if you are a Midnight Syndicate fan, then you will probably want to buy this anyway. But I would not recommend this collection to anyone else.
Midnight Syndicate Critique.......2004-09-22
I would give this product a 4 1/2 if I could. I will be honest, Its not the most spectacular album in the world, but it does fit its purpose exactly. From the core of your game until its over...You will enjoy this product completely! Th attitude and ambience it creates for RPG gamers (particularly D&D) just what the Master ordered. It fits extremely well into any game, as well as car or relaxation music. Overall: great product!
Only a gamer can make a class act sound track........2004-08-17
Midnight syndicate does it again with their sound track for the D&D game. The music is thoughful, playful, and powerful. Perfect for any campaign or a drive in the car.
Once again it is a great feeling seeing another home grown product from the Midnight Syndicate. After all they started as gamers and have not forgotten their roots.
See them in person at their booth every Dragon Con in Atlanta Georgia.
