The Best of The Doors delivers exactly what it promises. Rather than relying solely on the hits, this collection also mines the darker, and often richer, recesses of The Doors material resulting in a fairly representative statement. The hits are here: "Light My Fire" with Ray Manzarek's keyboards on a dizzy, psychedelic spree; "People Are Strange," with Morrison's tortured psyche barely being held in check; "L.A. Woman," with its bluesy sexuality. More important, favorites of fans are here, like the controversially (at the time) explicit "The End," which was one of the first of Morrison's forays into narrative poetry. In hits like "Break on Through," "Hello I Love You," "Roadhouse Blues," and others, The Doors melded psychedelia, blues, hard-edged rock, and poetry from the edge like no other band before. The Best of The Doors is a trip in every sense of the word. --Steve Gdula
Customer Reviews:
Good listening!.......2007-07-16
It's great to pop the CD into the car and sing with all the favorites that you've forgotten you knew the words to!
Simply The Best.......2007-07-01
By far, the greatest Rock and Roll band of all time. Technically, you shouldn't buy this greatest hits CD as you will be missing out on too many great songs. What you should do is go and buy all 6 studio CDs with Morrison on vocals, then buy the Russian Import of the 2 Doors CDs post Morrison as they are excellent as well.
the best hippie album ever.......2007-06-21
i cant say more then that im speechless
Open this Door.......2007-06-20
This is an awesome Doors compilation, must have for any fan. The Doors music was unique: funky synethiser sound, maybe the first major band to make heavy use of it; they used it well. The Doors' lyrics are weird and fantastic, but in a cool way, not at all stupid. All the hits are on this 2-disc collection. Definitely a good value. You'll see why the Doors are a lasting piece of 60s culture.
The Doors are the Greatest.......2007-06-04
I have to say The Doors "Greatest Hits" album is the best one yet! No fan can live without this amazing collection of songs. It included all of the most famous hits like "Break On Through", "Touch Me", and "Hello, I Love You". These are just few of the sixteen tracks put together on one CD. You have to buy this, its so amazing, just trust me. I love this album with a passion and I'm sure you'll be just as attached to it as I am. You won't regret it, and its even great as a gift!

Customer Reviews:
uneven cd--when great, fabulous; when not so great--mediocre.......2007-06-26
the doors have a great keyboardist in manzarek and a pretty great guitarist in krieger but it is morrisons lyrics and driving wild beat that makes it flow and makes it great. the early doors are the best; really tight. unfortunately, in later years morrison went a little overboard into excess and wildness and uncommunicativeness. but the doors are one of the great rock bands of their era.
great value for the money.......2007-03-24
if you like the doors, this is the one album to get. it contains ALL the great ones without breaking the pocketbook or having to listen to all their "filler" stuff.
Excellent album.......2007-03-19
This is the best compilation album put out by the Doors. Period. If you are a fan of the Doors who wants every album, or just wants the hits, this is the album for you. Legacy captures almost every hit put out by the Doors. Each song is crisp, clear, complete, and they are also in chronological order, which is cool too. Definitely a fantastic album to get. I recommended it to any fan of the Doors, or of classic rock in general.
Excellent collection and sound.......2007-02-17
This is the absolute best set to get. The song selection is awesome and the remasters job sounds excellent. Very crisp and clean.
Also, "Gloria" is a definite plus.
Hello, I Love This!.......2007-02-08
Great compilation. I love it that they are all full length studio versions. Also it's great having them in chronological order with great liner notes and info about each song. I wish they would have left off the 17 minute long "Celebration of the Lizard" -- this is a real dog. They could have replaced this with the nearly 9 minute title song from "The Soft Parade" which has an incredible funky middle section. Also could have included "Take It As It Comes" from their first album - a very overlooked song.
This is a band that had about 90-100 minutes of classic stuff - the best of rock, really - but the rest of their material was pretty marginal if not downright bad. So, all their best can't fit on one CD, yet 2 CD's can't help but contain a little filler. I'd rather have that than just 1 CD. But it would have been nice to have a remastered version of "The Soft Parade"

There Are things Known And There Are Things Unknown..........2007-04-06
...and in between them, are the doors.
I was in a drivers training car the first time I really heard Light My Fire. Oh, I heard it before, but for some reason, its "magic" worked on me that Spring morning. My foot just stayed on the accelerator pedal and my drivers ed teacher, himself a big, aging hippie, said rather casually from the backseat, "Whoa, bro...come back to earth..."
But there was no way I could return to this world the same way. Jim Morrison and the Doors had me and it was a good thing, a magical thing, a time in my life that will never ever be repeated again. I stayed up late listening to all their albums. This was in 1981 so CDs were still a few years away. I had my Realistic Radio Shack headphones on listening to my Fisher Stereo. Nag Champa incense was burning in the background and a dozen or so candles were lit strewn throughout my small room. My eyes were closed and the music took me to places/to spaces I never knew existed.
The Doors touched my "shadow side". Our shadow side is not something to be avoided or pushed down. In fact, the more it gets pushed down, the larger it becomes and it is the unexpressed shadow that becomes a negative force, but when it is faced and when it is embraced you begin to realize that all the monsters you're afraid of, all the demons you ever ran away from are in fact, your creations. And even though Jim Morrison was able to help me deal with my inner demons, Morrison succumbed to his own. Sad thing, really.
I eventually sold all my vinyl albums. Why? I dunno. Maybe I was going through a retarded period. I eventually did get them again but on CD. Like I said, that was a time that I could never return to. There was just something magical...something tangible about vinyl.
I got this CD because I am a Doors fan and I will always be, but it's different now. It's not something I really can listen to while just sitting there. Well, I guess it's because those days are over. There usually is something to tend to and maybe that's the biggest demon we have; forgetting what made us, US.
I haven't forgotten totally. I still listen to a few of my most favorite cuts while walking the dog or driving to the beach and sometimes that 15 year old kid will tap me on the shoulder and remind me of those things I used to love to do; paint, write poetry by candlelight, just allowing the unseen and the seen to merge and dance and creating something new and weird and beautiful.
This CD is full of "once upon a time" memories. Some painful and sad, some joyful and exhilirating but still never things to run away from, but run to, to be faced and embraced once again but in a different way.
Peace & Blessings,
john, "the Light Coach"
Once those DOORS open...........2005-02-24
I agree with all those reviewers saying that this is the set to have. For a 2cd package this has just about everything you'd need other than owning the individual cds themselves.
My only (small) quibbles are the track sequencing which is not chronological, and the ommission of 'The Soft Parade'and "Not to Touch the Earth'. But you know, there's not 1 track I would've removed from whats here.
I'd recommend this set along with the live Doors opus IN CONCERT. Short of buying all the single cds, this pair would do the job nicely, with the IN CONCERT version of 'Not to Touch the Earth' in its proper setting within 'Celebration of the Lizard'.
CD 1 is 77+ min, CD 2 71+ min...and need I add, stellar sound too.
Uncensored Doors Album.......2004-09-17
This is an amazing album. Like others have said all the studio albums are covered. Peace Frog, which on another Doors compilation album is not included is on this import. The obscure songs you don't hear on radio are easy to find on here. The best feature on this album (I think it is pretty cool) is that on "Break on Through" You can hear Jim say 'high'. It sounds like he is saying "she gets high". On ALL radio versions of this song 'high' is omitted. I am not sure why. There are a lot worse things in music!?!?
Don't buy it for the interview.......2004-09-14
I admit to being a rabid enough Doors fan that I would buy a collection like this just for the interview with Ray Manzarek (& I don't even like him that much). Word of warning to others like me: There Is No Interview! The cardboard sleeve surrounding the cd case says there is, but without that this European version is the same as the Canadian one - "Roadhouse Blues" footage but no interview. Other than that & the usual complaints about not including "Wild Child", or putting in "Mosquito" instead of "Tight Rope", this is about the best 2cd comp out there. "Legacy" has "Wild Child" but it wastes time on "The Celebration of the Lizard", which only people like me would really want. Eventually we'll be able to make our own custom comps in the store (if they still have music stores), or on the internet like the Beastie Boys Anthology, but until then, not everybody will be happy. The 4 star review is cause they keep releasing these things for no other reason than to make money, & I'm still mad about the interview. The music is all 5 stars of course.
The one to have!.......2004-09-10
The other reviewers said it but I'll say it again. If you want only DOORS album, this is the best. AND it is the best of the best ofs. AND it even beats out the boxed set IMHO. If you are new to the Doors, then this is the perfect primer.
One or two classic tracks are left out, but for what you get on this double CD offering you shouldn't complain. The remastering breathes new life into the songs and the (used) price can't be beat.
If you have every Doors album already, then I'd say save your money. If you want a handy best of for your car, burn these tracks yourself from your collection. The 2 post Morrison albums are good too, I got mine as a single CD set on eBay.
May the music of The Doors live on forever.

Album Description
Unavailable in the U.S.! The Very Best Of The Doors (Double disc/34 tracks ) cuts deeper into the band's studio albums with key songs that defined their sound including "Orange County Suite" "The W.A.S.P. (Texas Radio & The Big Beat)," "Five To One," "When The Music's Over," "Whiskey, Mystics And Men," plus the unedited version of "The End." Each track boasts a brand new mix supervised by The Doors and Bruce Botnick, the band's original engineer and producer. "We want our fans, both new and old, to hear what we discovered on listening to the actual multitrack recordings," says keyboard player Ray Manzarek. "There are background vocals by Jim Morrison, piano parts of mine that weren't used, and guitar stingers and solos by Robby Krieger that never made the original recordings that can now be heard for the first time. We used state-of-the-art techniques to bring these discs to the same sound quality we experienced in the studio when we initially recorded our songs. We invite all our fans to join us in this recreation of the legendary recording sessions of The Doors. And to be a part of our original conceptions." Also available as a 20 track single disc! Warner.

Fine representation of The Doors' work.......2006-12-26
The Doors ceased being a functioning band many years ago. The combination of Jim Morrison (vocals), John Densmore (drums), Ray Manzarek (the signature keyboards), and Robby Krieger (guitar) made some wondrous music in their short time together, music that continues to live on. Albums such as "The Doors," "Morrison Hotel," and "LA Woman," among others, comprise a rich legacy.
This "greatest hits" CD is a nice compilation of their work. Of course, the sine qua non of Doors' music is the iconic "Light My Fire." However, no true fan of the group's music would stop there. Other memorable Doors' songs on this CD include: "The End" (listen to the words and the tortured family dynamics expressed!), "Break on Through to the Other Side," "Riders on the Storm," "LA Woman," "Back Door Man" (another song with great atmospherics), "Twentieth Century Fox," "The Crystal Ship," and so on. Any greatest hits work ought to portray a group's work in a way that illustrates its different sides and moods. And this CD does exactly that. The different sides of the Doors are well represented.
Of course, one could quibble over what is NOT presented. The weird but wondrous "Horse Latitudes" could easily have been represented on this CD. So, too, songs like "Maggie M'Gill" and "Soul Kitchen."
Nonetheless, all in all, this is a nice representation of the Doors' oeuvre. If a person wants a quick taste of The Doors, this is a good starting point.
The Definitive Collection and Great Sound Quality!.......2005-10-02
If you are looking for the best the Doors have ever done on one disc and with great sound quality then this is it. The folks at Rhino have done it again and made an old recording sound like it was mastered just yesterday. If you like what you hear, get a good remastered version of their first album and you basically have the best they have to offer. Recommended!
Great, But Not As Good As The Best Of Album.......2005-09-16
The Doors have 3 Best of Albums I know of and this is the second one I've listened too. The other one is the double disc set which is a lot better than this one. Not that this CD is bad, but it's missing such tracks as "Waiting for the Sun" and
"Spanish Caravan". While this CD is great, I would get the other one before this one. Here's the tracks:
1. Break on Through-5/5-One of their best!
2. Light My Fire-4/5-While one of their most popular songs this one is not my favorite
3. People Are Strange-5/5-Great lyrics.
4. Riders on the Storm-5/5-I had to watch the movie to figure out what he was talking about, great song.
5. L.A. Woman-5/5-A lot of metaphors used for a city, this is a fantastic song. Morrison says "Mr. Mojo Risin" in the song, rearrange that and you get Jim Morrison.
6. Love Her Madly-5/5-Very catchy song. I love it madly.
7. Back Door Man-5/5-I love the line "eat your pork & beans". Song written by Willie Dixon.
8. Touch Me-4/5-Not one of my favorites. One of their few songs not written by Morrison, this song was written solely by the guitarist Robby Krieger.
9. Hello, I Love You-4/5-It would be funny to see someone say this, lyrics are funny. It's a pretty good song.
10. Love Me Two Times-4/5-Just like "Hello, I Love You."
11. Twentieth Century Fox-4/5-This has never been a favorite Doors song, it's not bad but it's not great either.
12. The Crystal Ship-5/5-Some say "love song" others say "drug reference". Whatever this song is about, it's one of my favorite Doors songs.
13. The WASP (Texas Radio & The Big Beat)-3/5-Chorus is good, but I don't like Morrison's talking in the rest of the song.
14. Peace Frog-5/5-Awesome song, lyrics are fantastic.
15. The End-5/5-11+minute song is fantastic. Very haunting sounding, Morrison's voice sounds great on it.
16. Roadhouse Blues (Live)-5/5-This is the first track I've heard by The Doors that was recorded live and they sound great live. Very cool.
A-
Good Compilation.......2005-02-07
The Doors are one of my favorite bands. I like all the songs on this CD. However, a second CD should be made with more of their classic songs. Here's the songs I would put on a 2nd greatest hits album: (Length of song and album it is from are included)
1. Soul Kitchen-The Doors (Debut)-3:35
2. Alabama Song(Whiskey Bar)-The Doors (Debut)-3:20
3. Take It As It Comes-The Doors (Debut)-2:17
4. Strange Days (Strange Days)-3:09
5. Moonlight Drive (Strange Days)-3:05
6. When The Music's Over (Strange Days)-11:00
7. Love Street (Waiting For The Sun)-2:52
8. Not To Touch The Earth (Waiting For The Sun)-3:55
9. The Unknown Soldier (Waiting For The Sun)-3:25
10. Spanish Caravan (Waiting For The Sun)-3:00
11. Five To One (Waiting For The Sun)-4:25
12. Tell All The People (The Soft Parade)-3:21
13. Shaman's Blues (The Soft Parade)-4:48
14. Runnin' Blue (The Soft Parade)-2:29
15. Wishful Sinful (The Soft Parade)-2:58
16. The Soft Parade (The Soft Parade)-8:35
17. Roadhouse Blues[Studio Version](Morrison Hotel)-4:04
18. Waiting For The Sun (Morrison Hotel)-4:01
19. The Changeling (L.A. Woman)-4:21
The total length for the 19 songs is 78 minutes and 40 seconds. There is just enough space to fit all these songs on one CD.
rethink this purchase.......2005-01-06
The Doors is one of those bands that is the stuff of legends, but if you like the band don't buy this paticular album. Look into their original albums, there are some amazing songs on them that most people haven't heard. Most everyone has heard Light My Fire, and if you like it that's great, but my favorite Doors songs most people haven't heard. Do yourself a favor, get Morrison Hotel, or any of the band's original albums. You'll be pleasantly surprised from the amazing songs you haven't heard.
By the way...listen to Land Ho! I love it.

Customer Reviews:
incredible.......2005-11-26
Slightly more mainstream folow up to "Direction of Motion" but still worth it. It stays in the the changer in the car. I saw these guys open up for Missing Joe a few years ago and was instantly hooked.
They've got this unique sound that I never get bored of. It's not overly rock, jazz, or funk, just a nice blend of all of them.
I'm not one for big reviews, so I'll just say, pick it up.
AWSOME! ORIGNAL!.......2005-11-09
I saw this band accidentally at a concert I went to and they had opened. Let me tell you I am soo glad I decided to go to the concert, these guys have talent, stage presence, and creative music. I love the lyrics, very real and easy to relate too, and how they incorporate a Saxophonist!! in the music is not an easy find. Which makes them more unique. Not often do you see that. MIGHT I ADD HE ROCKS AT IT! the lead singer has an awesome voice, the band plays together very well, The CD was produced very well....just all together good stuff. Very much worth the money!
The best CD I've bought all year!.......2005-08-07
I bought DTRD 3 months ago and it hasn't left my CD player since - except to be replaced by other Averi CDs!
The lyrics on this album are absolutely amazing: thoughtful, touching, and introspective - guaranteed to strike a chord. Chad, the lead singer, has a beautiful voice well suited to delivering those lyrics. In addition, the music is fabulous as well. While everyone in the band is clearly very musically talented, it's really their passion for the music that sets this band apart. That, and the well-placed saxaphone solos that help comprise the unique Averi sound.
Buy this CD today so that next time Averi plays a show near you, you can sing along and rock out!
BUY THIS CD.......2005-07-18
I absolutely LOVE this cd, I LOVE this band.. I have listened to it nonstop since purchasing it 4 months ago. Buy it!!! You will not regret it and you will be recommending it to all your friends...I promise.
AMAZING ALBUM!.......2005-03-17
i recently discovered this band, and they're incredible. every song on "Drawn To Revolving Doors" is unique, well produced, and heartfelt. Averi's music is rock with a sax, and its a combination that's unbeatable.

AMAZON REMOVE THE DESCRIPTION OF THOSE THREE CD'S THAT ONLY CONFUSE TO ALL OF US. THE CD IS EXCELLENT. THE SELLER ALSO IS EXCELLENT. BUT THE WEB PAGE TO SELECT OR WHERE WE SEE THE DETAILS IS A MESS.

Customer Reviews:
Great selection, AMAZING master quality!.......2007-07-17
This is one of those albums that is a real find. The sound quality is stunning. Usually anything post mid 90's has a flat, consistently loud and obnoxious sound. Most reissues suffer too, good musical works from earlier years that have been recently released to the new "musical sound" of the late 90's and on. This is a real find, the sound quality is pristine, 3d, deep, and musical from front to back.
For song selection, I haven't had the chance to get in to The Doors album by album yet. I do have a few "Best Of's" by them (5 to be precise), and this one DESTROYS the rest. Honestly, this is a must have if you don't want to buy their individual albums.
Again, the sound quality is stellar, I never would have expected this sound quality from such a new release (youtube "loudness war" if you're curious to what I'm going on about)
absolutely brilliant.......2007-01-11
Let's be real, every compilation has his shortcomings, sometimes your favorite songs are missing, this is no exception. Even "The Doors Complete Studio Recordings" are far from complete. But this one comes close to what a musicfan has to have (Doors' fans own most of it already). Elektra issued in 2000 the also 2 CD "The Best of The Doors" with 37 songs and one wonders what a new compilation short thereafter has more or otherwise on offer. "Best of" has both the "Soft Parade"-album outtakes "Whiskey, Mystics and Men" and "Who Scared You" and a track from the second and final sans Morrison album "Full Circle" (i.e. "No Me Moleste Mosquito", otherwise hardly on any CD available). They are not presented here. Instead there is a unique recording of "Celebration of the Lizard", normally only on live-albums ("Absolutely Live" and "Live in New York", on the "The Doors Boxset"). The first album is almost complete, with 8 of the 11 songs. From the other 5 albums is a selection made of 4 or 5 songs each. Plus "Gloria" from "In Concert".
I think this will do for most of a part. If you're still not satisfied and want more (I can imagine that) you can broaden your view with any of the regular albums, or optain the now "Perception"-box [which strangely ommits the scarce "Woman is a Devil"]. Still this doesn't answer my question, why a new compilation and so soon. Well, it's the SOUND! That is big, huge and fat. Loud and Clear. Especially the bass is overwhelming, terrific. Also the drums have far more depth than on any other Doors CD I know. But what's more, I always thought that the Doors' musical landmark was, apart from the baritone vocals of Morisson, the shrill, high-pitched but overall somewhat uniform organ sound of Manzarek. Wrong! I am terrible mistaken. It is remarkable how he sounds in every song complete different with the use of a Vox Continental or some time later a Gibson Kalamazoo, with the occasional help of the Fender Bass Piano and also use of a Fender Rhodes Piano or a "normal" piano. He has an astounding and dazzling array of keyboardsounds, long before the synthesizer-era with the coming of the modular Moog and the giant Yamaha GX1. It is really amazing and astonishing what many different sounds he can create with those early instruments and the recordingtechniques in the mid sixties. Listen for instance to "Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)" with melodic bellrings. Kind of ringmodulator, I guess. On "The Changeling" and "The Wasp {Texas Radio and the Big Beat)", both on "L.A. Woman"-album, you can clearly hear the warm sound of a Hammond organ but before that he played solely on those earlier mentioned instruments and they have a sound of their own, not one but many. Incredible. Even Keith Emerson from The Nice and E.L.P. with his extensive use of the Moog, and around 1976 a GX1, had not so many sounds on offer and he was experimenting a lot. Many people say that he was his time far ahead but you can easly say the same of Ray Manzarek with his comparable primitive keyboards. Anyway, it is a delight to listen to this double-album which has 34 songs and they are a treat. Honestly recommended, more words fail short.
