Jett-ilicious!.......2007-07-01
I LOVE this CD! Bonus material! Joan Jett..... and the ORIGINAL Blackhearts! My favorite BONUS tracks are the remakes of "Summertime Blues" and "Louie, Louie". Only Joan Jett can make an old song SING!
Classic.......2007-05-25
This is my second time buying this CD. The first time, someone from Black Heart Records told me to send my CD insert to thjeir office in NY to get signed by Joan Jett, Its been well over a year and I never got it back. So I had to buy the CD all over again, just to have the cover!
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts I Love Rock 'n' Roll.......2006-12-17
I just picked up this CD today at Wal-Mart in Grand Forks and I loved it. I don't think I've had any other CD in my CD player all afternoon. the songs I liked are "I Love Rock 'n' Roll", "Little Drummer Boy", "Nag", "Louie Louie", as well as others. I highly recommend this CD, especially if you're a fan of rock and roll music like me, even though one of my first loves for music was the Backstreet Boys (giggles). Anyway, I definetly recommend this!
Covers Girl.......2006-12-07
Joan Jett's second solo album, I Love Rock 'N Roll, provided her musical identity. The song "I Love Rock 'N Roll" had been recorded in 1976 by an English group called the Arrows as a b-side to one of their singles. Joan saw them play the song on a TV show while on tour with the Runaways, and wanted them to record it. Joan recorded an earlier version on the b-side of one of her solo singles, then re-recorded it in its best-known version, which hit number one on the charts. The black-and-white video was played endlessly on MTV, and the poster for the album was hung on the wall behind the MTV veejays. The album is a classic slice of hard rock bubblegum; Ritchie Cordell and Kenny Laguna mixed Gibson guitars with compressed Gary Glitter-style drums to produce Joan's catchy, hard-edged sound. The late addition of guitarist Ricky Byrd to the sessions gives most of the songs a playful urgency. Crunchy originals ("Love is Pain," "Victim of Circumstance") are blended with rowdy covers ("Nag"- The Halos, "Crimson and Clover"- Tommy James and the Shondells, "Bits and Pieces"- Dave Clark Five, "You're Too Possessive"- Runaways) in a nonstop romp of 80s hard rock that melts in your ears like sugar, sugar.

There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulley

You 're The One That I Want.......2007-04-03
The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.
Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26
Well here we are with a great piece of history.
This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.
Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06
I'm enjoying listening to this great soundtrack that I loved as a child after a long hiatus. I had it on 8-track 25 years ago. So it's fitting that I should get the 25th Anniversary Edition on CD. The 24 songs from the movie are just as everyone remembers them, so I'll talk about the Bonus Disc, which contains 10 alternative versions of the songs plus 2 previously unreleased instrumentals from the film.
Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.
This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.
The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.
If You Love Grease, You'll Love This - Only 1 Major Flaw.......2004-05-15
Disc 1 is like the original album, which I also own. 1 major flaw is that "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing" cuts off at the very end of it! I was upset by this, hence the 3 stars instead of 4. Disc 2 is a lot of fun w/some remixes and sing-a-longs, all in all, I'm pretty happy with it being that I'm a HUGE Grease fan. If you like Grease, you'll love this, it's fun. Too bad when they "remastered" it, they didn't catch there 1 mistake. Oh well, at least I have it on another album.

You have to understand.......2006-07-11
Joan jett is the female chuck berry and the big bopper rolled into one. She is rock. Love or hate her, never in the history of rock has there ever been a guitarist (let alone a singer song-writer, and yes she has surpased her inspiration susie q) who has lasted this long. Even the beatles didn't last 30 years. I love rock n roll is now an anthem for kids all over the world for all time. We owe her a debt that can never be repaid. It is our freedom and our honor to say- I LOVE ROCK N ROLL.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The First Lady of ROCK -N- ROLL.......2006-04-20
Joan Jett. The First Lady of ROCK -N- ROLL. She is by far a survivor and a leader in innovation during the 1980's. She paved the way for female singers, song writers, and more.
Well, this is an awesome album. It used to be that Rock and Roll music had strict frontiers. Joan Jett, a singer and songwriter has set a new standard for Rock and Roll music. No big hair and no scary make up. This is NOT your big brothers Rock and Roll music.
Joan Jett's songs and her special way of singing them has reached an enormous world wide audience who have discovered a unique talent who creates a sound all her own.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The first lady of ROCK AND ROLL....JOAN JETT!
The Ex-Runaway Rocks Herself for the Big Audience!!!.......2005-06-07
Joan Jett was known as a guitarist (The Runaways, Queens of Noise, Live in Japan, Waitin' for the Night, ...And Now the Runaways) and a vocalist (Waitin' for the Night, ...And Now the Runaways) in a female rock band called The Runaways which was the first well-known rock band including only women...or girls. This album is not heavy as The Runaways albums but it is as good as for example "Waitin' for the Night". Joan Jett was the first female hard rock icon and I think she is the most important one too. Her songs are real honest hard rock. She became very famous for her #1 hit "I Love Rock n' Roll" which have been played everywhere since that...especially in ice-hockey games. However, this album includes more that that...there's great "(I'm Gonna) Run Away", "Love Is Pain", "Victim of Circumstance" which are all the best hard rock she gave in her solo carriere. There's also "Nag" and "Crimson And Clover" which have been released as singles. "You're Too Possessive" is a new version of the Runaways song from "Waitin' for the Night". "Little Drummer Boy" is a great Christmas song...however nowadays overcovered...but Joan Jett's version kicks a**!!! This is a great album to start collect the fem-rock albums but also The Runaways albums may interest you if you like this album.
Stars: I Love Rock n' Roll, Victim Of Circumstance, (I'm Gonna) Run Away, Love Is Pain
Real Rock and Roll.......2005-03-09
I first heard "I Love Rock and Roll" on the radio while driving around Austin, Texas in, I think, 1982. I immediately thought, "This is a classic." It is. One of the greatest rock songs ever. Joan Jett is still around, but I don't think she gets nearly enough credit for how great her work was in the early 80's. This album is a must have for any Rock library.

Customer Reviews:
Great Album.......2006-05-21
While I Love Rock and Roll is a great and catchy song, my fave tracks on here are Crimson and Clover and You're Too Possesive. This is a great album to start your Joan Jett collection, but to me the best album is Bad Reputation. I often wonder why MTV didn't play Crimson and Clover video as much as I love RR? Guess because it was a huge hit and deserved alot of airplay. Don't get me wrong, all the tracks on this album are good.
Joan Jett's Commercial Breakthrough.......2003-12-18
I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL was Joan Jett's commercial breakthrough. The title track is overplayed, but the next song, "(I'm Gonna) Runaway", is the best thing here. There are other good songs here, too, making I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL the best place to start your Joan Jett collection.

Joan Jett's Best Album Has Just Gotten Better! Brilliant Sound Qualtiy Too!.......2006-11-19
Way back when in the early 80's when as an early teen I had started to listen to the music on the American Top 40 charts, the title track to this album was one of the first that I had ever heard that really blew me away; the overpowering power chords that opens the track really hit a chord with me and I knew I just had to hear the rest of the album and I promptly went out to get the cassette. I remember being struck by how impressive the rest of the tracks on the album were and how they admirably represented the punk rock genre. Although the mini-lp cardboard replica sleeve design isn't the best that there is out there, the remastered sound quality though is excellent and gives the album a whole new lease of life making is sound as fresh today as it did more than 2 decades ago. Recommended!

A surprise early-'80s superstar, Joan Jett had pretty much been left for dead by a record industry that was choosing not to remember her all-female teenage band the Runaways. Her second solo album, I Love Rock n Roll cherished a loud guitar crunch clearly not in fashion in the dance pop-lite era. But Jett also knew the value of a hook, and the songs contained herein use them to memorable effect. The title track became an anthem. Her resuscitation of Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover" proved she meant it. "(I'm Gonna) Run Away" and "Nag" solidified her point. The jump-start was immediate and led Jett to record a succession of satisfying albums. --Rob O'Connor

three great ones and some ok ones.......2004-09-08
"You're Too Possessive," "Love Is Pain," and "Little Drummer Boy" alone make this album worth buying. The other songs aren't bad... they're just her usual mediocre fare.
The definitive Joan Jett studio album-and I love R&R too!.......2004-02-25
Given Joan Jett's influences and admirees, such as Chuck Berry, the Coasters, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Tommy James, when that woman belts out "I Love Rock And Roll" I've never heard a truer word sung. Well, maybe I have, but I wonder how many people in 1982 knew that right off from those beginning guitar riffs and claps, that throaty growl of a voice, and the backup vocalists on the chorus, that they would be listening to one of the biggest hits of the 1980's and putting who knows how many dimes in the jukebox. Chances are, this song was such a hit, many people were left thinking "I Love Joan Jett" as well. This second version of the Arrows hit done with the Blackhearts instead of what Joan did with Steve Jones and Paul Cook has a lot more punch, grinding guitars, percussive energy.
The album is consistent in applying Joan's influences, particularly 60's rock with a thick layer of dynamite hard-rock attack of guitar, drums, and kick-a** vocals from the woman herself, as seen in the lovers' drama of "(I'm Gonna) Run Away."
"Love Is Pain" is a throwback to 60's girl-groups like the Shangri-Las or the Angels, but is as blistering as the title track.
The cover of the Halos' "Nag" duplicates the sounds of the original, down to the pause and one of the Blackhearts speaking a line on cue, almost like "Summertime Blues." Also here as a bonus track is the same song but with assistance from the Coasters, whose sound this is a takeoff on.
The other big hit from this album was her Top Ten cover of Tommy James' #1 hit "Crimson And Clover," and the Blackhearts' harmonies in the refrain bring an 80's hard rock update while giving a nod to the original.
Her cover of the Dave Clark Five's boot-stomping "Bits And Pieces" is another standout due to the beginning stand-alone drums and alternating vocals between Joan and the Blackhearts.
For an earful of Bo Diddley-type rockabilly done with the Jett sound, check out "Be Straight." And I'll be straight and say it rocks out like the others. And for something more punk mixed with a "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" energy, there's "You're Too Possessive."
The Christmas song "Little Drummer Boy" was on version 1 of I Love Rock And Roll as the album was released around Christmas-time. After the holidays, it was later replaced by the B-side of "Crimson And Clover," the engaging "Oh Woe Is Me," featuring a loud alley cat screech from Jett, also present here.
As for the extra tracks, the cover versions of "Louie Louie" and "Summertime Blues" also ended up on Flashback, but the latter is particularly dynamite. A live version of "You Don't Know What You've Got" from Bad Reputation is included.
What's also intriguing are songs recorded during the sessions that never made it. "Rebel Rebel" is on Flashback, "Wait For Me" had to wait a decade or so before turning up on Notorious, and "I Love Playing With Fire" ended up on the controversy-laden Album (hints: hidden track, "Star Star", yank from shelves).
Probably the definitive Joan Jett studio album, as it eventually went diamond, thanks to its #1 title track that spent nearly two months on the charts. Well, gotta run. Gotta put another dime in the jukebox, baby, or I'll be in pieces, bits and pieces.
Joan Jett is Awesome.......2002-07-03
As a college student I am sick and tired of all this pop (crud). I'm also a little skeptical of those artist that are going to "bring rock back" as many music critics seem to hope. I just don't have the time or money to invest fully in the local and underground scenes. So I've looked to the past to keep rocking. This album makes me happy everytime I listen to it. There are parts that drag a little, but in general worth every penny. Joan is an amazing performer. I just wish B. Spears hadn't covered I Love Rock and Roll. I nearly cried. Great album.

"I love rock n roll", a landmark album by Joan Jett........2002-05-04
This album is practically a landmark event, signaling the end of punk music as a source of toneless anger. It was replaced by the joyous anthem on this album, the very musical and melodically insinuating "I love rock n roll", now one of the biggest songs of all time in rock music history. When Joan Jett saw The Arrows perform "I love rock n roll" on televison in the UK in 1975, a light went off in her head that sparked a fire that influnced the sound of the 1980's in a big way.
The echoes of this album resound in so much of the music that followed in it's wake. There is so much good music and energy on this album I had to give it full marks.
To this day "I love rock n roll" is my favorite song.

I Love Britney Spears...but not "Rock 'N' Roll".......2005-09-23
If you listen to the LIVE version off her Britney Spears "Live in Las Vegas" DVD that's a worthy cover of the Heart classic. But the studio version comes off too slow and boring if you ask me. It needs more pump, more energy, more attitude...all that lacks from this version. Britney Spears can sing, not with Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston (but she has a unique sound), but too much of the time I find myself going CMON!!
I Love Rock 'N' Roll [Import] ~ Britney Spears.......2005-04-07
This is an atrocious song, but Spears makes it much better. Joan Jett can not sing all that well, Spears on the other hand does it justice and turns a really bad song into something that is quite good. I love what Britney is wearing on the cover and she looks amazing as always. She is such a tallented artist...
One...maybe two good songs. The rest is crap.......2004-12-29
The "Overprotected (Darkchild Mix)" was really the only reason I purchased this, because my Now 10 CD broke and I didn't have enough money to buy another, and I found this at a much cheaper price (probably because it's only a single). I found one more song that I kinda liked, and the Darkchild Mix that I had wanted. The rest I could careless for.
1. I Love Rock & Roll [Album Version] - D+ Very poor remake of the Joan Jett/Heartbreakers version. I guess you can take it or leave it.
2. I Love Rock & Roll [Karaoke Version] - (no grade really, I don't have a karaoke machine)
3. Overprotected [Darkchild Remix] - A+ Really the reason I got this single, because my Now 10 broke (sad face), and there was no other way I could get it.
4. I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman [Metro Remix] - B- It's an okay remix, not one of my favs though.
5. I'm a Slave 4 U [Thunderpuss Radio Mix] - F Horrible remix! Plus, I'm A Slaue 4U is such an overrated and stupid song!
6. I'm a Slave 4 U [Miguel Migs Petalpusher Vocal - see #5
7. I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman [Spanish Fly Dub Mix] - D Although I love this song, the remix ruines it.
Overall Grade - D If the remixes hadn't ruined it, it would have been an awesome single, but I guess you can say only buy this if you like the Darkchild Mix or I Love Rock N' Roll (which mostly everyone should hate considering it's a horrible remake). Stay away!
Worse cover of an awful song.......2004-07-10
Joan Jett's original version of "I Love Rock'n'Roll" was without a doubt one of the worst songs of the 1980s. Her atonal, pseudo-macho vocals were one of most amelodic things ever to be heard on radio - though naturally with Australia's insatiable appetite for pseudo-macho posturing, it topped the charts here.
Now, teen-pop star Britney Spears, in a vain effort to make her image more mature, does a cover of Joan Jett's awful song - and makes it even worse than the original. It sounds as flat as the original did tuneless and atonal, and Britney carries no more feeling than Jett at any time.
Don't get either this cover of the original. Stay as far from pseudo-macho posturers as from teen pop.
ONE OF BRITNEY'S BEST SINGLES EVER!.......2002-08-07
I can't say that I'm a huge Britney fan, but this single makes me want to be one! Britney's cover of 'I Love Rock N Roll' is surprisingly effective, and her voice gives this legendary tune a softer edge. But my absolute faves are the remixes! They make buying this import totally worth while! The Darkchild mix of 'Overprotected'is awesome, with its funky, and edgy, R&B groove. It's not your normal remix either. It's the original pop-sounding song made into an awesome hip-hip anthem! If you are like me and don't like 10 minute long remixes, this remix is for you! The Metro mix of "I'm not a girl..." has a bit of a Spanish-flavour to it with a fast-paced, acoustic-sounding guitar leading this flavourful remix, which is of average song length (not a tacky 10 minute long club mix), and equally as enjoyable as the 'Overprotected' remix. Love her or hate her, this single by Miss Spears' is excellent, one of her best, and worth the extra cash!
