3 out of 5 stars Not a Fan.......2007-06-12

Even though I'm not a fanatic fan, I bought this CD to see if I have missed anything (I have heard about Michael Bolton for years). So I can now say, Not really. None of the songs are new and most of them have been song by better voices. I would not throw the CD away, but I won't cry if I break it.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-03-07

Michael Bolton fans who are ready for the kind of power and passion that was shown in the album "Love Songs" will surely be disappointed in this offering. The tune choices were anything but classics, in my humble opinion, and the renditions were without the artistry we have all come to expect of Mr. Bolton. The first classics album was an absolute stunner. This album is stunningly inferior to it. The renditions are better than many artists could muster, but certainly not what we have come to expect from Michael Bolton. All in all a poor performance. I hope future albums are much better.

3 out of 5 stars Meh..........2006-09-29

It's obvious that Vol. 2 is nowhere near what his first "Timeless" album. Although it's a decent album, he sticks with songs that everybody knows. This album shows Michael has become very predictable. I'm not sure I'd recommend this album for someone who wasn't into his old-school, early-90's style of music.

1 out of 5 stars Michael Bolton is a great artist.......2006-05-17

Well I am a Michael Bolton fan and I hate giving him one star. I like those sexy soul songs that he has on this CD but I like them sung by the original artists. Michael must understand that you only sing other people's songs if you are going to take it to a higher level. If you are going to take it from excellent to mediocrity -leave it alone.

He has a sort of sexy hoarse voice that gets to me when he sings his own songs. Maybe because he created them, he pours his heart into them and I can close my eyes and almost see him singing them and he just cannot seem to do the same with these other songs on this CD
.
When he sings these old soul classics my God he kills me. So when I have those songs on the CD mixed with his originals, I never play them I only play Michael Bolton creations and I keep them on repeat for weeks. A CD with only these old soul songs, not birthed by Michael Bolton, does not enter my home and will not play in my vehicle.

Somebody tell him please, he has a good thing. We his fans love him for what he does with his own and no one can touch him on that. So Michael must stay with it, continue to push those songs of his that we his fans love. Regarding these old soul songs he should put an end to this foolishness. The fans of these old songs are now his fans anyway. People who love him love him for his own. Why does he feel he needs to do this. If he wants to sing them while he takes a shower fine but after he dries himself off cut it out.

5 out of 5 stars Bolton's renditions of songs on "Timeless: The Classics 2" superb!.......2006-03-17

I recently purchased this CD and I must tell you that Michael Bolton has done a great job of re-interpreting these classic songs. I especially enjoy listening to "My Girl", Sexual Healing", "Let's Stay Together", and "What You Won't Do For Love".

Michael brings new meaning to the songs with his emotional interpretations.

I definitely would recommend adding this CD to your Bolton collection.

Album Description

"Amazing", "Exquisite", "Gorgeous", and "Very Highly Recommended" are some of the words used by New Age diva Kathy Parsons in her review of Michael Dulin's piano and keyboard CD, "Timeless", on the Equity Digital label. Following two previous chart-topping solo releases of original tunes, with "Timeless" pianist/composer Dulin turns his attention to reinventing the classics - 11 of your favorite classic melodies, to be exact, transformed by Dulin into what will surely become your favorite "New Age" classics. This CD is vintage Dulin, with lots of original touches, and that polished and sensual sound that has made his music so popular. "Timeless" is a must-have for fans of New Age, Contemporary Instrumental, OR classical music.

WOW, THIS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC CD IS WONDERFUL, I HAD A BETTER TIME LISTENING TO IT THAN WATCHING BROTHER THEODORE'S LIVE SHOW AT THE 13TH STREET THEATER IN NEW YORK CITY'S GREENWICH VILLAGE. GREAT CD, PERFECT TO MAKE LOVE BY...WITH THE LIGHTS DOWN LOW & A BOTTLE OF MOET WHITE STAR CHAMPAGNE.

WOW! I first heard Michael Dulin on the internet and became a fan. His arrangements are so fresh and transcending. I feel like I'm listening to his soul journeying through each piece. Thank you, Michael, for allowing me to journey with you.

5 out of 5 stars Soundscapes.......2005-09-20

I first heard this cut on Soundscapes on my Direct TV. I looked it up and Amazon had it! I have played it for dinner parties, cigar smoking, fine wine drinkin and am just plain happy I was spontaneous to use some of my credits to treat my life to some wonderful music.

5 out of 5 stars A Timeless Classic!!.......2004-11-11

Michael Dulin brings New Age genre to its Classical roots with his 2004 release, "Timeless". Dulin provides us with a wonderful selection of tracks written by some of the greatest composers of all time. Listeners not familiar with the Classical geniuses of the 18th and 19th Century will be surprised with some of the compositions that we hear everyday in use with TV commercials and movies. Composers such as Debussy (Clair de Lune), Beethoven (The Emperor's Adagio), Bach (Prelude) and many others. My personal favorite is Simply Satie by French composer Erik Satie. (I've always wondered who composed this music because I heard the group, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Saxophonist Gato Barbieri perform this same melody on their albums.) Once again, as he did with previous CD reviewed by us, Dulin showcases his great talents as an arranger and pianist. His strong aesthetic attention to detail in the production is a testament to this outstanding recording. I recommend this CD to anyone who would like to rediscover the Classics.

Donovan, the British folkie and poor man's Bob Dylan best known for '60s and '70s Flower Power opuses like "Season of the Witch" and "Sunshine Superman," takes a slightly self-indulgent but utterly intriguing turn here on his first album in eight years. Backed by a deft band of ace session musicians, Donovan serves up a spacey, electronica-laden tribute to one of his most enduring influences: the Beat poets (Ginsberg, Burroughs, et. al.) of yesteryear. A few of these cuts, like "Two Lovers," "Yin My Yang," and "The Question," are merely dazzling word play set to hot licks. But others--"Poor Man's Sunshine," "Lord of the Universe," and "Do Not Go Gentle" (a hip-hoppish variation on a famous Dylan Thomas poem)--resonate with the eerie power of spacey elevator music from U2's loopy Zooropa phase while briefly showcasing Donovan in all the whispery, flower-draped splendor of his salad days. -- Bob Allen

Album Description

That shimmering, intimate voice . . . the poetic, seductive lyrics . . . the dreamy, hazy music that surrounds them . . . From folksinger to flower-child to timeless musical poet, Donovan and his distinctive, magical songs have become familiar to decades of music fans since the early Sixties through hit singles like "Mellow Yellow," "Sunshine Superman," "The Hurdy Gurdy Man," "Catch the Wind," "Colours," "There is a Mountain" and "Atlantis," in TV and movie soundtracks and commercials, and on a precious, infrequent trickle of new releases.

"Beat Café" is the first new Donovan CD for grown-ups since 1996's "Sutras" ("The Pied Piper," a children's CD, was issued in 2002). While "Sutras," produced and released by Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash, the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mick Jagger) emphasized Donovan's folk roots, "Beat Café" is an extension of the heady rock/folk/pop/jazz/blues/world music brew that has become Donovan's trademark.

To capture the spirit of the Bohemian café happenings dating back to 1840s Paris that combined philosophy, poetry and free thought and inspired this CD, Donovan enlisted multiple Grammy-winner John Chelew (Blind Boys of Alabama, Richard Thompson, John Hiatt) as producer and keyboardist and the world-class rhythm section of folk/jazz double bassist and longtime Donovan accompanist Danny Thompson (Nick Drake, Richard Thompson, The Pentangle, John Martyn) and drummer/percussionist Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, George Harrison, many more). Applying a "no fixed arrangements" approach to foster the proper mood of spontaneity, Donovan (vocals, guitars) and his cohorts have created a lusciously atmospheric collection of eleven new original Donovan compositions plus a cover of the folk standard "The Cuckoo."

This "beat café" of the mind is a sensuous, smoky den of fevered seduction (the hypnotic "Love Floats," "Yin My Yang," "Two Lovers," "Whirlwind"), jazzy, finger-snapping hipness ("Poorman's Sunshine" and the title song), death-mocking blues ("Lord of the Universe"), and gentle spirituality ("Shambhala," "Do Not Go Gentle," the latter song an adaptation of Dylan Thomas's famous poem). The contemporary production values meld mystic chants, teasing wordplay, tender meditations and warm musical telepathy into a reaffirmation of Donovan's status as a unique and vibrant musical visionary.

2 out of 5 stars disappointing.......2007-07-05

I heard a cut over the radio, and thought it was worth looking into. Don't waste your money on this one. Very poppy, stupid lyrics, totally uninspiring. What happened to the artist who tried "To Catch the Wind?"
I guess he got old and boring. What a shame!

4 out of 5 stars Very, Very Cool.......2006-03-24

Since "Sutras" his astounding comeback album rated five stars, I have to rate this one only four stars as it's not QUITE as good (and half stars aren't allowed). But make no mistake, it's still very, very cool.

It's so amazing that Donovan is back and sounds as good as he does, 40 years after I first discovered him. And he's not some nostalgia act; he's doing important new groundbreaking work! He sounds great too.

"Beat Cafe" finds him swaggering with an acoustic trio in deliberately "hip" arrangements which, in lesser hands, could have been cloying. But this is never overplayed, never broad, never tongue-in-cheek -- just a very relaxed set of neo-beatnik grooves which he, alone among his contemporaries, has the cachet to perform with authenticity.

Did I mention cool?

5 out of 5 stars Donovan gets sexy!.......2006-02-06

I first listened to this CD with my wife in the car as we were driving the Mass Pike on a sunny Saturday morning, heading for Maine. I didn't quite know what to expect this trip, but I was not prepared for (and yet pleasantly surprised by) this deeply sensual set of tracks. Just amazing! Donovan can still turn it on, approaching 60, and his voice is as timeless as ever, perhaps even smoother in his late middle age than ever before. "Love Floats," the lead-off track, is an outright seduction; "Yin My Yang" sounds like a Tao-themed come-on ('twould make Confucius blush!); "The Question" is groovy and mystical with the Hammond B-3 low and secretive in the mix.

Suffice it to say that my wife and I could not stop touching each other while this CD was on, and were it possible for us to pull over and make hot, passionate love before continuing on, we'd have left the key turned to Accessory so that this music could have continued contributing to the sexy mood. Lastly, I'll add this--if you bring home a date and put this album on, and you *aren't* making breakfast for them the next morning, something went dreadfully wrong! Danny Thompson's sinuous bass work and Jim Keltner's tasteful drumming keep the whole thing moving along to your inevitable climax...pick it up today.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Cool and Tripper Vibe.......2005-09-28

Oooooh yeah...man. This is the good stuff. After hours and into the dawn. With or without shades.
Donovan's Temple is the place to be.
Thank you and...could we fill it up again? Soon?
Stay Free.

5 out of 5 stars High-Water Mark for Donovan.......2005-08-08

Sunshine Superman morphs into Bohemian Batman on this superb outing by Donovan. When I heard about the concept of this album -- Donovan trying to recreate the sound and ambiance of Soho beat cafe circa 1962 -- I thought it sounded like a desperate gimmick by a fading rock superstar. But it works big time, thanks in no small part to the dream-team support of accoustic bassist Danny Thompson (Richard Thompson, Pentangle) and solo-Beatles drummer Jim Keltner, who swing and sizzle along with Donovan's acoustic guitar grooves. The only thing that doesn't really work is the recitation of Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle," (but it is a great theme for the record and one that Donovan seems to be taking to heart). Every other track on the album is a gem. This is Don's best album since the criminally overlooked Cosmic Wheels back in the early 1970s, and possibly the best of his 40-year career. I can't think of a single one my many favorite rock artists from the 1960s or 1970s (many of whom are still recording and performing) of whom I can say they trumped their catalog at close to age 60! Watch out world -- The Hurdy Gurdy Man is still crankin'!

5 out of 5 stars A treat for the Boltheads.......2006-09-29

If you've never heard any of Bolton's work, I don't recommend this being the first thing you listen to by him. But if you enjoy his music, this album is great for the collection. "To Love Somebody" was the highlight of the album, and his rendition of "Drift Away" was magnificent. And all in between was great. Great for Boltheads, but I recommend getting introduced to his other work before nabbing this one.

4 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD ALBUM.......2004-10-25

Some time ago, I bought this album, having heard "To love somebody" on the radio. Just that song makes the whole album worthy. This album is not a masterpiece, of course, neither so bad as said. The best songs are: "Since I fell for you", "To love somebody", "Hold on, I'm coming" and "Drift away". Perhaps the only weak work on the album is "Yesterday". Overall, an album that deserves to be rediscovered, and I think it was too much underrated.
Finally, I must say that I liked much more this album than the volume II, which was rated higher...

1 out of 5 stars SHAMEFUL AND BLASPHEMOUS!.......2004-10-19

Michael Bolton does for classic soul what The Boston Strangler did for door to door salesmen.

Just because he somehow manages to sell X-million units of his ridiculous bellowing and caterwauling, his ego inflates even more to the point he thinks it gives him a license to massacre and devastate some of the most revered soul/R&B classics of all time.

If only there were laws against such aberrant behaviors. Whoever signed this idiot should be banished from this planet, along with Mr. Bolton altogether.

4 out of 5 stars The Best from Michael Bolton.......2004-10-14

"Drift away" is powerful in this new rendition. It's hard to get a voice Like Michael... Just for this song alone, I will buy this album... I am actually re-buying this album since I can't find my old one... and I will never ever find other performances that can top 'Hold On, I'm Coming" and "Konck On Wood." Pop songs don't get better than this.... guilty pleasures indeed!!! The best album from Michael Bolton....

5 out of 5 stars When Michael Bolton sings a song, it`s TIMELESS!.......2004-09-04

What a fantastic album! Michael Bolton`s voice is as gorgeous as the timeless songs he is singing. He has given fresh new lives to these songs.
"To Love Somebody", "Knock On Wood", "Bring It On Home To Me" are favorites of mine, but I love the others songs as well. A perfect choise for a wonderful singer!
This album is truly a classic and no one sings with more emotion than Michael Bolton!!!

"I'm gonna love myself," proclaims Patti LaBelle on Timeless Journey. Rather than claiming this as a superior moral choice--no "Greatest Love of All" here, thankfully--the 40-plus-year music veteran takes pains to underscore the album's theme of self-reliance with a certain modesty. Her common-sense messages (it's no sin to take a spa day, go for that man if he's the right one, dump the one who's not) rest comfortably in tracks that feel more up-to-date than some of the neo-soul sounds she could rightfully lay claim to, but also don't do anything to alienate the crowds that have given her sold-out shows for decades. She's made more groundbreaking music than this, but Journey is likely to give solace to the many who also love Ms. Patti. --Rickey Wright

2 out of 5 stars Patti Labelle is great but the music on this cd isn't!.......2006-08-18

First of all Patti is an amazing talent who deserves a ton of credit and praise. First for her powerful voice and second for her tenure.

The problem with this CD is that her voice is too low in the mix. The background singers are louder than Patti's voice on many of the song which is not good.

The other problem is that only two songs on this CD are up tempo everything else is slow and laid back. Sure some of the slow songs are ok but most of them are dull.

Patti sounds strong on some of these songs but on the other songs she doesn't project her voice enough and that is probably the fault of whoever arranged the songs.

The first song and the last song with Sanatana are the best songs. A new day and a few others were good. The rest are boring.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Blend of Classic Patti with Modern Soul!!.......2006-01-24

Patti LaBelle is one of the few soul divas from the 60s era who has endured and has truly become timeless. She enjoyed a career renaissance from the early 80s into the late 90s. Since the late 90s, she has been bequeathed with legendary, almost iconic status. While the sales of all of her studio CDs since the mid-80s have spawned a dozen or more top, R&B hits, her 2000 When a Woman Loves was a step-back, of sorts as it totally underperformed. Not even Urban AC stations rotated any of the singles. Nevertheless, 4 years later, Patti comes on strong with this youthful, but age-appropriate studio CD, which was her debut CD on Def Soul Classics-a label she is no longer with.

More than Material-Produced by PAJAM, this self-love song has the trademark PAJAM (J MOSS) production, and it's good to hear Patti's voice fitted in this beat-driven mid-tempo. Here, Patti talks about her being "more than material" and exhibiting that she's much deeper than that. This is something that so many need to hear in today's material-driven, consumer-prone society. The song is very commercial, and it would've done well if it were released as a single. It's a very strong song that kicks off the CD. A

It's Time-Produced by Shawn Smith, Dinky Bingham and Jimi Kendrixx, this 3-minute mid-tempo reminds me of "springtime" so much for some strange reason. In this song, Patti takes on the character of the wiser, older woman who schools a younger woman on love and what love is about. Patti's telling her to hold on to a good thing while she has it. I must admit that the verses are sang in a highly nasal tone, but she lets out some powerful notes throughout the song, and while most people would not sing this like a Gospel revival, Patti brings out the bombastic vocals even on a laidback song like this, which is what makes Patti, well Patti. It would've made a great video. A+

New Day-Produced by Jason Rome and the Corner Boys, this was the debut single off the effort, reaching #38 on the R&B Singles Chart and #93 on the Billboard 100. The song also reminds one of springtime with its encouraging theme of a new day. It was a great, kick-off song, and it allowed Patti to taste success again especially considering that she is in her 60s. Towards the end, it's good to hear her let out the powerful vocal flip that she does as well as the Gospel-rendered adlibs that she does. A+

Something More-Produced by Troy Taylor and Gordon Chambers, this is my favorite song off the CD. It's a slow jam, almost a ballad, but not quite where Patti is letting her lover know that the relationship is good, but she wants something more than just "promises, visions, etc." She wants the real thing. Patti has never been deemed the best interpreter of material as she sings verses straight-down-the-middle and turns all songs into Gospel revivals, but in this song, she interprets the verses pretty well, and her trademark, "OVER THE RAINBOW" crescendo at the end of the bridge is used to good effect. The background vocals are also arranged wonderfully to make this a standout song on the CD, which many people actually like a lot. A+

Sometimes Love-Produced by Babyface, this mid-tempo, which follows the theme of It's Time except this time, Patti is advising another to let go of a love that just isn't working out right. While having a trademark Babyface sound, Patti breathes her own style into the song to make it really work. It is one of the most commercial songs on the CD, and I am still baffled as to why Def Soul did not release this as the 3rd single off the CD. A

Hear My Cry-Produced by Darren Henson and Keith Pelzer, and featuring Floetry, this song which is produced by the same guys who work with Floetry is a great song. Because of Floetry, it has a very youthful, dark sound to it, which Patti covers very well. The song fits her nasal voice very well, and it also allows her to roar at points where she needs to. This could've worked as a single as well. The background vocals are on-point, and I like towards the end how Patti does the echoing of her own voice. A

Good Lovin'-Produced by Troy Taylor, this old-school meets new-school, Mary J. Blige-sounding jam is tight. It reminds me of something that would be heard at a skating rink, and it exudes a lot of soul, a genre that Patti does not sing as much. She interprets the song well, and towards the end she lets loose as always. I'm curious as to why this was not released as a single either as it would've done well also. A+

Mm, Mm, Mm-Produced by Sheldon Goode and Sami McKinney, this mid-tempo sounds very dated, like something out of the mid-90s. With Sami McKinney as the producer, this is probably something that Patti passed up in the 90s and decided to do for the CD. The song works overall, but within the context of its predecessors, it's THE weakest tracks, and it comes off as filler. The background vocals are good, and Patti sounds pretty good albeit too, too nasal. B-

Not Right, but Real-Produced by Babyface, Sheldon Goode and Sami McKinney, as the only true power ballad on the CD, Patti sets it straight that she has to leave a relationship that is not going anywhere. Although neither one wants to give it up, there needs to be someone who "has to be strong, come right or wrong. I'll always love you." So many people can relate to a song like this. I enjoy the laidback arrangement of the song which enables Patti to let loose where she needs to and give the song a right touch throughout. The background vocals are the best, and Patti really lets out some power notes towards the end with the trademark crescendo during the bridge. I also don't understand why this was not released to Urban AC as a single. I'm sure it would've done as well as the two singles off this effort. A+

2 Steps Away-Produced by Jonathan Delise and David Ivory, here Patti meets Country/Acoustic Folk music. It's interesting because even though this sounds like something that Dolly Parton or Reba McEntire would sing, because of Patti's inherent soulfulness, the song still fits her style of music. The power run that Patti does during the bridge is enough to buy the whole CD alone as well as the high soprano power note that she lets out after that impressive run. The song continues on with the former as it talks about only being 2 steps away from walking out. It's a treat to see Patti perform this song live as she's able to re-do the same vocal tricks live as well as the fact that she walks away from the mic and the audience can still hear her. A+

Finally Got the Nerve-Produced by Bunny Sigler and Matt McCarrin, this youth-sounding song featuring the violinist Miri Ben-Ari is probably one of the weakest songs, as the mid-tempo has a strong intro but the song never really goes anywhere, and it's almost a stretch hearing Patti singing something like this. Also, she sings the vocals pretty well, but the soul/connection to the lyrics seems a little off, just a little. It's a good song, but once again, following other songs which are way more cooler, it just does not work as well. B

Unpredictable-Produced by Shawn Smith, Jimi Kendrixx and Dink Bingham and containing element of Turn Off the Light as written and performed by Nelly Furtado, this inspirational, 21st century Gospel driven song sounds contemporary as it does contain the big hit, Turn off the Light. If you wanna hear Patti let loose vocally, this is the perfect song as she adlibs away, constantly lets out powerful soprano wails and towards the end lets out the most powerful note I have heard anyone sing, let alone a 60 year old. It's a powerful song lyrically and vocally. A+

When you Smile-Produced by K.C. Porter and Sami McKinney and featuring Carlos Santana, Sheila E., La India and Andy Vargas, Patti meets Latin/Salsa music, which she ably pulls off in this mid-tempo which would've performed well on AC stations. The song is a nice love song that would sound nice rolling during a romantic movie while the actors are dancing. It's surprising that Patti sounds so convincing pulling this off. I'm sure she was inspired by Celia Cruz as she gives acknowledgment to Celia. Hearing this live is even better as Patti keeps the Latin beats but mixes them in with African, more drum-driven beats. A

Overall, this is one of Patti's most cohesive and most commercial CDs of her entire career. It's up there with 1991's Burnin' and 1997's Flame. It shows Patti having more fun and enjoying herself than any song. It also allows Patti to exhibit her still formidable and impressive vocal range, but she has learned how to use her powerful instrument in a way that complements the music instead of showboating as it seems to be on some other releases. Unfortunately, the promotion for the effort was lackluster with only two singles being released, the second of which, GOTTA GO SOLO featuring Ron Isley reached #89 on the Hot 100 and #31 on Billboard R&B Singles Chart, but since it was not included on the CD, it did not propel sales. Taken how Urban AC responded so favorably to the NEW DAY and Gotta Go Solo, with the material on this CD, Def Soul could've still been releasing singles now, almost two years later and the CD would've been Gold instead of selling only 280,000 copies. This should be in anyone's collection almost. It's a great CD to understand the talent that Patti has.

5 out of 5 stars Flawless.......2005-07-03

I hesitated buying this not because I don't love Patti but because I thought it might be more of the same. Thankfully, I purchased it anyway. Patti is all that with a free lunch. Every track lends itself to the next and they are all incredible. Timeless, could have easily been the title of this CD without another word because she truly transcends time. We love you Patti, Patti. Say my name........

Glenn Jones has one of the most fabulous voices of all time. He's right there with Luther, Marvin and the rest. Unfortunately he gets ignored for much less talented singers. If you'd just like to hear a fantastic voice sing fantastic songs, buy this. You definitely won't be disappointed.

    4 out of 5 stars Forever Soulful.......2007-01-26

If you're looking for old school/r&b or soul music...You're Sweet, You're Fine, You're Everything...need I say more. This song was worth the entire purchase of this CD. Glenn's voice is gorgeous on this song. The entire CD is good and there are no fillers. Give it a listen. You won't be disappointed.

    3 out of 5 stars Worth a listen.......2006-10-11

Most people know Glenn Jones from the early 90s song "Here I Go Again," which showcases his beautiful voice and is included here as a "classic". Those fans and fans of Classic R&B are the only ones I see buying this CD. That's a shame because it is better than some of the reworked Classic albums that have been put out by more established stars.

    1. Another Sad Love Song (Toni Braxton): 6/10. He left out all the earnestness that Toni put into this song. It is middle of the road/you'll forget after hearing. The only thing he does better than Toni is ENUNCIATE.

    2. Anniversary (Toni, Tony, Toné): 10/10. I absolutely HATED this song when it came out. I only listened to this so that I could provide an opinion for my review. I was pleasantly surprised!!! Glenn Jones has made me not only forget the insipid version performed by Raphael and crew, but he has shown how a reworking of a song can be to the song's advantage.

    3. Where Is the Love? (Roberta Flack/Donny Hathaway): 10/10. This is the song where you wake up and say "Did I just hear that?" Glenn and Genobia Jeter Jones (his wife) kick butt and take names on this one. When she comes in for her verse, she makes you want to know where her CD is. You will love both this version and Roberta and Donny's.

    4. Here I Go Again (Glenn Jones): 8/10 [if you've never heard it]; 6/10 [if you have]. Seeing that the people who know Glenn Jones know this song, I consider this a wasted slot. If he wanted to do something daring, he should have put a new twist on one of his contemporary's songs: maybe Debarge's All this Love or Tony Terry's With You.

    5. My First Love (René & Angela) 7/10. After hearing Mr. and Mrs. Jones on Where Is the Love?, this should have been a duet slam dunk. It wasn't. Glenn could probably sing circles around René Moore and Genobia has a distinctive voice that should have been able to keep up with Ms. Angela Winbush, so WHY, WHY is this song so blah. Producers??? Consumers: Go find the original.

    6. Reaching for the Sky (Peabo Bryson) 8/10. Just as good as the original.

    7. You're Sweet, You're Fine, You're Everything (Tomorrow's Promise): 10/10. I had never heard of this song before and have only heard a clip of the original. This is a gorgeous song, and I am glad that Mr. Jones introduced me to it.

    8. Show and Tell (Al Wilson). 5/10. First let me say, I love the original version of this song. I think this reworking has the same issue as Glenn's version of Another Sad Love Song. He has taken all of the angst, earnestness, urgency out of the song. Marked down a point because of the previous song.

    9. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (Stevie Wonder): 8/10. Funky! Thank goodness because this song has been done to death!

    10. I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much (Bobby Womack): 8/10. This song could have been a 10, however, the arrangement should have leaned closer to the spare/acoustic side - Glenn puts the emotion needed into this song and his voice is great.

This CD is only 45 minutes. I downgraded it one star because of that.

5 out of 5 stars You Know What, Ya'll? - Glenn can SAAAAAAANG!!.......2006-08-12

Upon intial inspection, the average listener will think this is yet another classics cd with nothing fresh going on.

First and foremost, Glenn has been a highly underrated singer. All his career we know he was in the background, you always marveled at his vocal acuity, yet somehow he just couldn't seem to "get over."

Notwithstanding, this is a beaaaaaaaaautiful cd. Glenn indeed breathes new life in some timeless classics. He even tightened up "Show & Tell" a song, I wasn't that crazy about when first released but this is yet a perfect example of Glenn breathing freshness into some wonderful R&B classics. Kudos goes to his female partner on 'Where is the Love" and "My First Love." These guys are saaaaangin' ya'll, okay?

I really feel good about giving a guy who has been out there in the trenches for quite a while his flowers now. He has managed to present a wonderful project that he can be proud of and that you will enjoy for years to come!

        5 out of 5 stars FOREVER YOUNG...FOREVER........2005-09-21

George Skaroulis new album "Forever Young" is one of his best. George masters classic children's lullabies in his infinite style that will transport you back to your favorite childhood memories. Plus, "Forever Young" features three outstanding vocals. "True Colors" features vocals by KEVIN LAWSON. Kevin's voice meshes with the music and creates a whole new exciting version of this Cindy Lauper classic. "Pure Imagination" features the angelic voice of FELICIA SORENSEN. Being a true fan of the original movie classic "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", I was pleased that George selected this song for his new album. As I listen to "Pure Imagination", I'm transported to a place of dreams and tranquility. The song seems to float in air drifting effortlessly through time. The final track on "Forever Young" is "Lullaby (Goodnight My Angel)" and also features vocalist FELICIA SORENSEN. When I first heard this song, I cried. I had recently lost my mom and hearing "Lullaby" reminded me of her spirit. As you listen to "Lullaby", allow the song to enter your heart and think of someone you love. Just when you feel the song has ended, the final verse softly reaches up and touches your soul. "...someday we'll all be gone but lullabies go on and on..." and in George's new album "Forever Young" they do.

5 out of 5 stars from Solo Piano Publications.......2005-09-21

"Forever Young" went through an interesting evolution from its original concept as a lullaby CD to a children's album to a recording for families to enjoy together to the final product, a gorgeous collection of original pieces, traditional children's songs, and a couple of cover tunes, lovingly arranged and soothingly played to calm and uplift a spirit of any age. George Skaroulis has been one of my favorite artists since I discovered his music a few years ago. His sensitive piano touch and gentle spirit come through his music so beautifully that it is no wonder that his music is used extensively by massage therapists and in spas. Seeking to reach a new audience with his arrangements of children's songs, this is very definitely not exclusively a children's album. Skaroulis' arrangements of songs like "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Row Row Row Your Boat" are so elegant that I did an aural double-take the first couple of times I heard them. About half of the twenty tracks are original compositions, and two are remakes from Skaroulis' previous release, "Generations" (2000). The album has a sweet, seamless quality that creates a cozy, peaceful mood, kind of like a favorite "blankie." The album also contains three beautiful vocal selections. Vocals on a mostly instrumental album can be annoying and out of place, but these songs fit perfectly and really need to be included.

"Forever Young" opens with the Cyndi Lauper hit "True Colors." The first part of the song is an instrumental prelude that sets the tone of the album - flowing, peaceful, and full of love. The second part features vocals by Kevin Lawson, who has one of those rough-around-the-edges voices that conveys so much emotion - it made me cry! "Song For Lylah" was composed for the little girl in the cover photos, and is a sweet piano solo. The second vocal is "Pure Imagination" from "Willie Wonka," and features the voice of Felicia Sorensen, who creates a feeling of magic and mystery. "The Circus Leaves Town" and "Chasing the Waves" are classic Skaroulis vignettes - perfect in their brevity. "You Are My Sunshine" was a Skaroulis Family favorite when George was growing up, and this tender arrangement is one of the highlights of the album. "My New Friend" and "Parents" are remakes from the earlier "Generations" CD. "Parents" is an incredible piano and cello duet that could melt the most jaded of hearts. The title track has a gentle, tranquil feeling that flows effortlessly, and the sound of children's laughter in the background adds sparkle. "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Frere Jacque" are two more of the children's songs that are beautifully and elegantly arranged for a more adult taste. The CD closes with another vocal by Felicia Sorensen, this time Billy Joel's "Lullaby (Good Night My Angel)," a deeply touching song that ends the collection on just the right note.

George Skaroulis puts so much of himself into his projects that I don't know how anyone could not be moved by the openness or the depth of emotion in his music. "Forever Young" is an incredibly beautiful album, and I really hope it does bring a new audience to Skaroulis' music. Very highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Treasure for the Young and Young at Heart.......2005-09-21

I am a true fan of all of George Skaroulis' work and was thrilled to hear that he was doing a "children's" cd. Well, what started out as a cd for the little one's turned into a joy for everyone. We play this cd in my 2 year old's room at bedtime and it is absolutely beautiful and soothing. I enjoy listening to it so much with my son, that I want to purchase an additional copy to enjoy myself while I am at work during the day! I highly recommend this cd as well as anything else that George has created. You won't be disappointed!
