Best known for 1951's "The Wild Side of Life," Thompson wed prewar Western swing to postwar honky-tonk and created a sound that proved viable both on the radio (where swing was usually ignored) and in the dance halls. He kept it up with a steady string of hits that included beer-drinking ballads, heart songs, folkish material, and flat-out novelties; though he plied a distinctly Texas sound, he was never shy about looking to the Southeast for material. His bands, often joined in the studio by guitarist Merle Travis, framed his vocals perfectly without ever taking the spotlight off the singer (and also cut instrumental hits such as "Wildwood Flower" on their own). With 20 tracks, this is the best single-CD sampler of Thompson's early work. --John Morthland

5 out of 5 stars The authentic original 40's & 50's Country + TRUE Country.......2007-05-28

I remember him from way back there in the late 40's to now. And whenever I couldn't buy anymore of his albums. That's ok, I just listened to my LPs and cassettes. Now I'm loading up on CDs. It's got everything: swing, western, honky tonk, blues and even twang(y) and "through the nose." I LOVE IT. I know better than to hope it'll come back. Because: it can NEVER be improved upon. I can live very well with what I've got. I've never seen the first thing bad written about him. He always seemed to be a very likable fella when I'd see him on TV (rarely), but we did use to get the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights on TV and the radio. And then there were the individual shows, like Porter, The Wilburn Brothers, and Hee Haw, etc, that he would be on.

5 out of 5 stars Top Grade Honky Tonk.......2007-04-17

This is a real cracker of an album and at the price it's a true bargain. Some call Hank a Western Swing artist however I cannot agree with this moniker. He's much more in the honky tonk mould and quick listen to this album confirms such. Apart from the monster (in depth and price) Bear Family set this is the best Hank Thompson album out there. It covers his period with Capitol Records (1947 - 1961) and, while he made some excellent music after this time, he had his biggest hits with Capitol under the production guidance of Ken Nelson. This album covers just about all those hits plus a couple of Brazos Valley Boys instrumentals (which are more in the Bob Wills Western Swing mould). Hank wrote or co-wrote 12 of the numbers here and shows he was not only a great singer and arranger but a superb songwriter. Another interesting aspect to this album is the obvious development of the artist over time and the improvement in recording technology and techniques. Also, the Brazos Valley Boys were one hot band that could swing it out when required and throughout supply complex, interesting and sympathetic support. Merle Travis supplies his trademark guitar work to many of the songs and he is in fine form indeed. The CD comes with a very informative booklet and the sound/mastering is top shelf making it an essential purchase. I encourage anyone looking for an album of 50's honky tonk in the, then, more "commercial" style at an absolute bargain low price to pop this in the trolley when next ordering music from Amazon. Highly Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great 40's and 50's Country.......2007-01-03

This is a respectable collection of popular songs by Hank Thompson and The Brazos Valley Boys, with release dates going from the 1940's to 1960. In my opinion, he hit his peak in the 60's, but this collection clearly shows the progression of early country music, in both style and lyric development. I recall Hank and his band as huge, but my view may have been skewed by my rural Texas surroundings. The later songs exhibit the honky tonk influence, which I consider the golden era of country. If you collect vintage country, this is indeed essential. I had all these on vinyl but the years took their toll, so it was great to have another chance at them.

5 out of 5 stars Vintage Hank Thompson.......2006-11-10

This is a really great CD for those who appreciate the old timey country-western.............it is primarily swing and toe-tappin! If you enjoy Hank Williams, you will love this CD. I highly recommend it! I am very pleased with the CD....the fast service and the continued excellence of Amazon.....................

5 out of 5 stars Not for children.......2007-04-22

This was produced by Hal Willner at A&M in 1989 when Willner was 31. Willner has also produced albums for Marianne Faithfull, Lou Reed, Bill Frisell, William S. Burroughs, Gavin Friday, Lucinda Williams and Allen Ginsberg, among others. So it should be no surprise that this album is an eclectic mix and highly theatrical in concept. Several reviewers have criticized the use of medleys, but a great many Disney songs have only one verse and a chorus, which makes it difficult to make a full length cut, hence the medleys. It's an album that has aged very well and bears many repeat listenings. Tom Waits, Harry Nilsson,Suzanne Vega, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Betty Carter,Sinead O'Connor, James Taylor, Yma Sumac, and narration by Ken Nordine. It sounds as though it should be a real mess, but Willner has put it together so it not only makes sense but is more than the sum of its parts.

3 out of 5 stars Not hte best cd to buy.......2007-04-02

I have bought several Disney cd's like this one and this is my least favorite. Some of the arrangements I feel could scare a young child, like Hey Diddley Dee. The one that I do enjoy is the title song...It is very much the mother's lullaby being sung acapello.

5 out of 5 stars Disney a wee bit on acid........2006-06-09

What an eclectic grouping of artists that came together to make this work. The absolute best Disney tribute CD that adults will probably enjoy more than the children. Sinead deliberatly sings an entire song off key until the last note and it's perfect. There are wonderfull songs that you would expect, but with Tom Waits in the mix you must expect some "oddness". Overall a great CD. 5 Stars easy.

4 out of 5 stars Alternating dark , melancholy and wistful, good but for grown-ups only.......2006-05-16

I found that listening to this work end to end is going to put you in some peculiar moods. The overall feeling is definitely downbeat, even the up-tempo songs have a decidedly ironic and dark bent. My favorite song in this album has to be the exceptionally soulful rendering of "Baby Mine" by Bonnie Raitt; it turns the sentimental mother-child ballad into something more on the romantic side. I have often slow-danced this one with the wife, and you can really feel a hot intensity under the surface of this number. James Taylor's "Second Star To The Right" is exceptionally wistful in his trademark style. Sun Ra's cover of "Pink Elephants" remains true to the original while retaining the peculiar spacy Sun-Ra vibe. One of the more "accessible" Sun-Ra performances I've ever heard.

Tom Waits and Ken Nordine are commanding presences as well. The Tom Waits version of "Hi-Ho" made my wife's imagination conjure nightmare images of murderous doings in Gacy's basement; it creeps her out so badly, she refuses to hear one note of it. I prefer to imagine the dwarves in manic, Fred C. Dobbs-like pursuit of their underground treasure, working too fast in a mine full of hazards and fearsome environments... with a workplace like that, it's no wonder they'd really appreciate a Snow White coming into their lives. Perfect music if you are on your way to a job you hate...

I agree the Sinead O'Connor piece (Someday My Prince Will Come) and Suzanne Vega "Stay Awake" tracks are here mostly for their postmodern ironic effect, and I find them hard to listen to with patience. In Sinead's case, the shock value of her performance of this particular song choice gets dulled over time as people forget who she is and why her singing this is supposed to be funny.

The Nordine pieces, which bookend the album, really demand good headphones for best appreciation, and reward repeated listening. Cruising thru quotes of ee cummings, with puzzling snatches of what seems to be an audio montage of soundtrack clips from old Disney park attractions, and other spooky imagery, he conjures up a tour thru a darkened, haunted vault of musty film cans and ragged posters, the perfect place for an adult to look back on childhood perceptions and potentials and compare his youthful fantasies with the cold realities and incomplete goals and disappointments of old age. Pretty heavy stuff. Yet it manages to finish, if not upbeat, still, with a sense that we still have time left to wring meaning from our pasts, and to put ourselves on a path to personal redemption.

The whole album leaves me with this kind of feeling, as if I have passed unscathed thru something more dark and dangerous than I really understood, and survived to come out into sunlight on the other side. Like the old "dark ride" rollercoaster attractions of Disney's park, you will want to experience the ordeal of getting scared and surviving it again and again.

5 out of 5 stars Really good stuff.......2006-04-28

I picked this up on CD when it was first released and I was in college, it was always one of my dirty pleasures packed next to harder, grungier, and/or funkier stuff. Well, most of the other stuff has not stood the test of time too well, but Stay Awake still comes out every once in a while. Like the earlier reviewer, I frequently sing my daughters to sleep with Blue Shadows on the Trail ala Syd Straw, and my 2 year old has taken to singing along with me. My one complaint is the medley style of the tracks... some tunes rate an individual track, while other tracks might have three or four tunes faded together. Plenty of different styles on here to satisfy a wide variety of tastes, but it's the purer and more sentimental ones that have always stuck with me. I strongly disagree with the reviewer who thinks Aaron Neville was trying to sex up the Mickey Mouse Club march, I've always felt that his version is laced more with plaintive nostalgia than anything prurient. I've always wished that somebody would put together a Stay Awake 2, but if that means Jessica Simpson gets called in to remake Hakuna Matata, I'll pass.

Taken from radio shows commencing with Disk A, between 1932-37, this 4 disk set offers a tuneful delight of Crosby renditions of songs of the era. Some of the songs on these disks are not generally available on other Crosby collections, and are a treasure for those who appreciate the artistry of Bing Crosby. It contains jazz, ballads and duets, and features such bands as Jimmy Dorsey, John Scott Trotter and others.

5 out of 5 stars Just a great album.......2005-10-24

New Vintage is one that will drive one to play over and over. The arrangements , music and talent that are on this album is just amazing! If one likes jazz, this one's for you.

3 out of 5 stars Boring, But Still MF.......2005-08-31

This CD was one of the series of 70's releases from Maynard Ferguson that was loaded with great solos by the Boss and little else.

I recall thinking at the time how much the material on New Vintage sounded like the Conquistador release.

Maria is interesting and MF does a superb job with it but it ends up going nowhere.

Airegin is a great Mike Abene tune played very well.

Scheherazade with disco beats? Please! Despite the upper register playing from MF, this tune does nothing for the overall presentation.

If you're looking for a good MF CD to add to your collection, keep shopping.

But if you buy it, you WILL enjoy MF's playing (and hopefully you will enjoy some 70's style arrangements, too).

5 out of 5 stars WoW.......2005-04-22

Well, well well, I have got to declare that this album contains all that whitehot Ferguson firepower that us devotees have come to expect, and more!!! Maynard really unleashes the full hi-chops artillery. Some fans might be offended by the blatant porny sounding arrangements, however, for my pure MF listening pleasure, Scherezade is top shelf (listen out for Maynard's backing babes and the 'stylish' MF violin cadenza at the start), Oasis is smooth ecstasy, and as for the second half of Maria, BAM! As for Star Wars, I think George Lucas should really consider making Maynard an honourary Jedi and use him on the upcoming film, Episode III. Finally, the CD cover art is the epitome of MF in his full glory. CHECK IT OUT!

4 out of 5 stars Of all the MF recordings, this is one of them..........2005-04-01

Many of us who play trumpet learned by playing along with MF and Mangione records in the seventies. There is some overly commercial stuff here, but Airegin is worth the price of the CD. It is an old Slide Hampton chart, and Peter Erskine's drumming here rivals Buddy Rich even on a good day. Mike Migliore and Biff Hannon solo as if they'd been stuck playing disco for the whole rest of the session (I wonder why). It is also nice to hear MF come in on lead trumpet during the "shout chorus" before the A section at the end. And Erskine's last last seven notes are incredibly hip.

4 out of 5 stars New Vintage - Maynard Ferguson.......2004-08-28

Maynard Ferguson's "New Vintage" dates from 1977, around the middle of his contract with Columbia Records. His Columbia recordings were very pop oriented and extremely successful commercially, though when heard today are clearly a product of their time. Ferguson released one album per year and then toured the world, often performing in high school auditoriums and encouraging jazz education with an extremely exciting 12-piece band.

Ferguson's Columbia recordings fall into three vague periods. The first set, from "Alive and Well in London" (1969) to "Chameleon" (1974), featured a vicious band performing both straight-ahead and jazz-rock fusion charts recorded in real-time. His middle period, from "Primal Scream" (1975) to "New Vintage" (1977) incorporated studio musicians and guest soloists and
used extensive studio technique and signal processing. "Conquistidor" (1976) even yielded a top-40 hit, the theme from "Rocky." The recordings from the final period, from "Carnival" (1978) to "Hollywood" (1981), are a mixed bag, often betraying the strain for commercial acceptability, including more obligatory movie/TV themes (Rocky II, Battlestar Galactica), rigid pop covers (Baker Street, Star, 9-to-5), strange hybrid charts featuring background vocals (How Ya Doin' Baby, Toma Topa Woman), some excellent originals (Carnival, Spirit of St. Fredrick, Dayride) and a few straight-ahead standard gems (Aregin, Stella by Starlight, Naima).

"New Vintage" hails from the middle period and has a more cohesive band sound than the studio constructions of "Conquistidor" or "Primal Scream." All but one of the six charts were arranged by Jay Chattaway, who began his career writing for the U.S. Navy and followed his 70's band arranging work with a very successful film/TV scoring career, including hours of music for all the reincarnations of the Star Trek TV series. His moderately funky and accessible arrangements and compositions define the sound of "Primal Scream," "Conquistidor," and "New Vintage."

"New Vintage" follows the formula of "Conquistidor" almost track for track. "Star Wars" has pop hit written all over it, although it did not achieve the chart status of "Rocky." "Oasis" is the smooth brother of "Mister Mellow." A funky "Maria" equals "Star Trek" all the way to the freakish triple-high C nestled in the fade-out of the song. "El Vuelo" is an ersatz Spanish composition
similar to "Conquistidor." "Scheherazade" is a pop-funk classical adaptation in the mold of "Pagliacci" (from "Primal Scream"). "Aregin" is the odd-man out, a frantic traditional bop arrangement by Mike Abene that sounds especially clean with the album's dry production style and make you long for Ferguson's halcyon days with Stan Kenton's band in the early 50's.

While Ferguson's playing lacks the superhuman clarity of his work in the early 50's (he was 48 years old at the time of the recording), in some ways his lyrical tendencies mesh better with the soft-funk of "New Vintage" than the traditional jazz he pursued immediately before and after his Columbia days. The soloists are excellent, including a young Peter Erskine, saxophonist Mark Colby, flautist Bobby Militello and saxophonist Mike Migliore. Most of the sidemen were Ferguson's live band and given the passion and virtuosity they displayed in concert, it is a shame that their talent is often masked by the production technique and intentionally lukewarm scoring.

For those of us band geeks that came of age during this period, those high notes conjure happy memories of band trips and jazz festivals. While Ferguson's best Columbia recordings are, arguably, the early 70's MF-Horn series, none of those recordings are yet available on CD. The three mid-70's recordings have their own charm for those willing to take the time trip, and "New Vintage" may be the best of the bunch.

3 out of 5 stars It's just okay.......2006-08-18

I listened to this song and thought it was just okay. I don't the understand the rave reviews for this cd. If you're looking for an excellent nu soul cd, get "The Love Experience" by Raheem DeVaughn. He is excellent!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Cd.... extremely thought provoking.......2006-01-31

I love this CD... Its almost hard to put into words how excellent of an artist Raphael Saadiq is. Each song as a unique flow and style, there's not a single song that doesn't have immense artist value. My favorite song on the cd is "Blind Man". The song is so, so deep. And if u can relate to the words, the meaning in any way... whether its on the surface, or deeper for some... it's just an awesome track, full of heart and sincerity. Raphael speaks to the Truth of music and Expression throughout this CD with perfection. It's a work of art and I'm very impressed. If u get the CD, I'm certain you will be impressed as well. Its music for the mind and u have to be in an appreciative state to embrace the vibe this CD puts out.

5 out of 5 stars Greatness!.......2005-10-16

I just dusted this one off and remembered that I had not written a review for it but I couped the week it dropped. Saadiq himself is Instant Vintage. Since Toni, Tony, Tone he has matured while still maintaining his musical genius and classy style. This whole project is so eclectic, R & B, and HipHop all in one breath that you can't go wrong. Lyrics that make you think, react, feel. Every track is one that I can appreciate. They are all my favorites.

5 out of 5 stars What an appropriate title!.......2005-10-04

I instantly liked EVERY song on this cd and am glad to see that there are artists out there still making REAL music.

5 out of 5 stars the most beautiful voice of America.......2006-02-16

This ist the first time that I am hearing Annette Hanshaw.I guess she was the most beautiful voice in the roarings 20's and 30's.Good days those days! The people in America was the happiest in the world because they had a nice girl with a marvelous voice. Annette, I love you!

5 out of 5 stars Annette Hanshaw Is a Gem!!!.......2005-10-30

I find Annette Hanshaw's singing incredible. Did she have a great voice? It doesn't matter to me because she is so easy to listen to and one CD wasn't enough for me. While this is a superb collection and I love ASV/Living Era's array of splendid music from the 20s and 30s, I still needed more of Annette's recordings. What a pity that she stopped recording in 1934. Her 78s have been found and put on CDs and they sound fantastic because of the feeling she puts into her singing. This is an especially good one to be introduced to her music since it has a bit of all her recordings from 1926-1934. I easily give it five stars. I prefer her over Ruth Etting and that says a lot!!!

5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2005-10-16

It was shocking to hear how perfect the vocalization of Lovable and Sweet is. The sound quality is incredible. The musicality is stellar. Simply astounding.

5 out of 5 stars "They don't singem like this no more".......2005-10-10

This CD from the fine works of Annette Hanshaw is a real piece of Americana! The soothing voice of this 30's star comes across crisp and clear. Most folks my age (51) don't have a clue who even Annette was and thats fine because most my age don't have a clue about what real music is either. It's no wonder that Annette was known as a Band Leader's Dream the way that she could blend right in with the music. The days of singers like Annette Hanshaw,Connee Boswell,Jo Stafford and Helen Forest are gone forever. The Pop Music of today has nothing to offer and I mean nothing! The only way to hear good music today is to go back into the arcives of time and hold on to what will never again be duplicated! Treat yourself to some of the finest singing ever recorded-Annette Hanshaw!
"Enjoy" Joe Kopeck

5 out of 5 stars I absolutely adore Annette Hanshaw!.......2005-09-17

This was one of the first early jazz albums I ever bought. I can't even remember why I bought this over others, but I am really very glad I did...she has such a lovely voice for such a young girl and a very mature voice also. Just listening to these recordings has taught me so much about the "voice" of the 1920s and inspired my work as a singer (ok, ok, so I'm just in the school choir, but hey, there's nothing wrong with busting out the 20s trills once in awhile!! :D) Anyways, I would definitely recommend this album for anyone who wants to get into 1920s jazz/pop/tinpan, its a really excellent album, although when you hear other albums like it you are dreadfully disappointed that the singer doesnt sound like Annette Hanshaw!!

There were plenty of slicked-back boys fighting for their share of the spotlight in the wake of Elvis Presley, but Wanda Jackson was one of the rare rockabilly gals of the '50s. It was Elvis himself who recommended that the Oklahoman set aside her country leanings for the time being and rock a little. That she did, drawing on a voice that cut through the din with a surplus of sass and a session band that included guitarists Joe Maphis and Buck Owens. This 20-song anthology mixes country and rockabilly sides, but while Jackson is likable tackling honky-tonk, she shines as a rockabilly spitfire. The likes of "Riot in Cell Block #9," "Hot Dog! That Made Him Mad," and "Let's Have a Party" offered an early affirmative to the question: "Can a gal rock?" The real mindblower here, however, is "Fujiyama Mama," which opens with Wanda boasting: "I've been to Nagasaki / Hiroshima, too / The same I did to them, baby, I can do to you." Pretty strange claim, considering only a dozen years had passed since two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan. --Steven Stolder

5 out of 5 stars She deserved a lot more!.......2007-03-14

From the birth of R&R in the mid-fifties till the end of the decade,
all the big stars were "raw" leather-jacket male singers. This music
wasn't for female interpreters. Nevertheless one daring young lady
didn't care about the by then unproper seen attitude of a gyrating
R&R girl. She was Wanda Jackson who had several of the best sung
rockabilly hits ever. Probably the best pure R&R song of
all times is "Let's have a party": everytime I hear that song
I get the "shiver" and one can't help start shakin' his body.
If Wanda had quit the Rock& Roll scene and turned into a sweet
kind of pop music, she would have been as great as Brenda Lee.
When I listened to the songs of this CD, I thought all these songs
could have been Brenda singing... Their voices are exactly the same!
Wanda, however, was forced to change her wonderful and real rockin'
style into Country which she did perfectly well and many of the
songs on this great CD are of that genre. As a matter of fact, after
each R&R song comes a C&W song. The quality is just out of sight.
What a pity they din't permit her to keep on rockin'. Her carreer
suffered a big halt in the 60's and never recuperated those first impressive
genuine R&R songs. It definitely wasn't for female singers those days.
That's one of the reasons why this CD is a real treasure!

4 out of 5 stars Real Country.......2007-01-12

Wanda is a great performer and sings true country not the junk called country today.

5 out of 5 stars fabulous 5O's.......2006-02-27

This record is a must from the middle of the 50's .
Excellent singer , very good musicians and an excellent recording .
This record is still amazing and seems to sound very modern due to the quality of the recording and the mastering.
I recommend this record to all rock and roll fans

5 out of 5 stars An inexpensive and great overview of Wanda's career..........2004-05-26

This cd is a perfect introductory one for a new fan, for it offers the two sides of Wanda... the rockabilly queen and the country torch singer, although there is a LOT more rockabilyl here(thankfully). This cd features rockabilyl classics liek Fujiyama Mama, as well as a blues "Kansas City Blues", and some country/honky tonk/rockabilly "I Gotta Know" and some hillbilly stuff too. A great cd, a great price, though if you want to spend a little more and get ALL the rockabilyl classics try Ace's Queen of Rockabilly or Bear family's Wanda Rocks or just for the Gold and get Bear Family's box set, Right or Wrong! Well, you migth just want to start here, fir this sampler is such a budget price and contians all her rockabilly ESSENTIALS, and shines her in a light as more then just a rock'n'roller. A versitile and great singer who could be rough and roudy and rev ger vocie up liek a 57 Chevy or could coo sweetly like a canarie! Great cd!!!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Wanda.......2001-03-01

She was first female rocker, just now getting the long overdue credit she deserves....listen and wonder why it took so long, she needs to be the next to enter the R&R Hall Of Fame. Rock On Wanda!

I love listening to this album while cooking, hanging out with friends, having supper, etc. etc. I never get sick of it. It's just such a fun album!!! If you like St-Germain' Tourist album and Moby's first album you'll love this one.

5 out of 5 stars can't get bored of it.......2004-04-08

This is the only album in my collection that I listen to on a regular basis without ever getting bored of. I FF one or two tracks generally, but this is one heck an album that goes down great at a cocktail party. In fact, I've never, until now, bothered to write anything about an album. highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Bright and bubbly like a wine cooler.......2003-07-19

Even better than Volume One - "Spring". Vintage Chill "Summer" is very breezy and upbeat. Chill music with a decidedly Latin feel to it. Recommended for everyone who enjoys listening to music while at the beach or relaxing in a hammock in the backyard. Best tracks - "At the Beach", "Summer Fun", and "Roadster". Also enjoyed the Theivery Corporation song "Liberation Front", it is a good change of pace. Can't wait to hear Vintage Chill Fall.

5 out of 5 stars quickly up to the top of my fav's.......2006-04-14

I have over 50 CD's now, containing the Hotel Costes series, Cafe Del Mar, Private Lounge, and many many more. This CD has quickly become one of my top favorite CD's to listen to - at anytime during the day - it's incredible. I have this CD right next to, or even just one point higher than Serve Chilled 3, which is the absolute Pinnacle of Electronica.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD But Not Just Chill Tracks.......2006-01-30

Not that all the tracks aren't intriguing, interesting, fun, or even brilliant but note that some tracks are closer to bossa nova/trip hop than straight 'chill,' or just easy samba - nothing wrong with that but you will have to mix/shuffle the tracks a little.

5 out of 5 stars Music for Wine Lovers.......2003-08-01

This is a unique take on the downtempo, chillout genre. Kudos to the record label for thinking of this concept. Favorite songs - Bossa No. 5, Music to Watch Girls By (God help me, I remember the original version!).

I first heard this album at a friend's home. He was playing it during dinner. The songs blended perfectly with the overall mood of the evening. I've since bought mt own copy and can't get enough of "Vintage Chill". Last Tango in Paris by Gotan Oroject and Please Lord by Steve Austeen are both standout tracks. Can't wait for volume 2!

5 out of 5 stars Classic CD!.......2006-11-10

I never thought I would own a Michael Bolton CD! I heard this one playing at a cocktail party while on vacation and I fell in love with the mix. This is a great CD to play while relaxing in your kitchen at home---cooking a great dinner for two. I highly recommend it...

5 out of 5 stars ROMANCE, INC........2006-11-05

This is one of the most romantic CD's I have ever heard. Bolton is in top form with this one. Perfect with a glass of wine, candles and the most important person in your life.

2 out of 5 stars Okay..........2006-09-30

This was an okay album. Michael doesn't seem to put any emotion into the songs, almost like he was forced to do the record. I definitely wasn't feelin' it. As much as it hurts to say it, I can only squeeze 2 stars out of this one.

5 out of 5 stars Heard this album in an antique shop........2006-09-01

Heard this album in an antique store and thought it was an old
Louis Prima record. We were shocked to find out it was Michael
Bolton. Lovely old love songs are from a more gentle, romantic
era. We are baby boomers and remember our parents dancing to these songs, so they are nostalgic. It's a great album for
anyone who wants to touch places, times, and people in the past.

5 out of 5 stars Vintage Soul Classics.......2006-07-12

This is a great CD with wonderful classic songs sung beautifully by Michael Bolton. I believe that all of the negative one star reviewers belong to the "LET'S TEAR MICHAEL BOLTON DOWN COMMITTEE." Their comments seemed to be based on their dislike and jealousy of Michael, and not on his music. When you know that you can sing, and you know that you look good, and you have that many people hating on you, then you gotta know that you must be doing something right.
Keep up the good work, Michael, and keep praying, and keep your head up.
