Frampton Comes Alive! [Gold CD] [Live]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
If you were challenged to name five rock albums that epitomized the '70s, Frampton Comes Alive! should probably top the list. Former Humble Pie guitarist Peter Frampton recorded a few perfectly fine albums with his band Frampton's Camel, but it wasn't until some of those tracks were recorded at a live performance in San Francisco and released as Frampton Comes Alive! that he became a household name. Buoyant pop, sentimental ballads, arena rock--this album has it all. The double-LP package set sales records and contained three bona fide radio hits ("Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me the Way," and "Do You Feel Like We Do?"), one of which, shockingly enough, was over 14 minutes long. No wonder that, to many, the two-and-a-half-minute songs of the Damned and the Sex Pistols felt like a breath of fresh air a year or two later. --Lorry Fleming

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Sensation.......2007-07-01

My father owns many classic rock lps, but when i heard about frampton comes alive it was joyous to notice at times that live rock perfomances are just that much better, this here is one of framptons finest piece of work

4 out of 5 stars It takes me back.......2007-06-27

Have you ever heard a song that totally transports you back to a significant time in your past? Well, that's what Peter Frampton's "Comes Alive" album, excuse me, CD does for me. Back when I was 17 and riding around with my high school buddies, going to somebody's house after the football games for parties. Hanging out. The entire collection of songs causes me to have such feelings of nostalgia because it is such a great grouping of songs that Frampton does so well. Put it on, real loud if you can and sit back and let the music wash over you and see if you can feel 17 again.

5 out of 5 stars Frampton Comes Alive.......2007-04-04

This is the only copulation by Peter Frampton that you want to own.
No other releases by Frampton measure up to this one. He made one great copulation of recordings ever. This is it. After this he Petered' Out!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-02-05

It was great on LP when I bought it in the 70's and even better now on CD.

4 out of 5 stars great album -- more to frampton than you think.......2007-01-19

i always thought of frampton as a heart-throb with one big album in the 70s.

then i listened to this and -- WOW! Frampton is a superb guitar player with a unique sound (this album made it famous); an impeccable songwriter as well as a charismatic and, ok, good looking lead singer.

when you go past this album, you realize that frampton has a solid track record of pop songwriting & impeccable musicianship.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS VINTAGE PETER FRAMPTON LIVE AT HIS ABSOLUTE BEST........2007-03-24

I will be writing a review on the legendary historic live Two-CD set in the new Deluxe Edition commemorating the 25th Anniversary album entitled "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" by one of Rock's greatest premier guitarists and one of England's most legendary artists of all-time. I give you the one and only, MR. PETER FRAMPTON. "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" was originally released in 1976 on Vinyl/LP and Cassette on the A&M Records Label. I purchased the very first release of this album on a Two-CD set in the late 80's. This new 25th Anniversary Two-CD set Deluxe Edition was re-released in 2001 on the A&M Records Label which is a Universal Music Company. This new re-release is Digitally Remastered using the HDCD recording process. (High Definition Compatible Digital) As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary live album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

PETER FRAMPTON has had a long and glorious career in Rock n' Roll history. His career would begin as a guitarist with the successful band HUMBLE PIE in 1969. After two years, FRAMPTON would leave HUMBLE PIE in 1971 following the release of the live "PERFORMANCE--ROCKIN' THE FILLMORE" album. However, it would be FRAMPTON'S solo career that would skyrocket and strike gold. FRAMPTON would release four successful solo albums from 1972 to 1975 before releasing his greatest historic live landmark achievement in 1976. When FRAMPTON recruited bandmembers Bob Mayo on rhythm guitar, Stanley Sheldon on bass guitar and John Siomos on drums, his new band line-up was now formed and complete resulting in a new sound and rare bond between the four. When "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" was released in 1976, FRAMPTON recorded the ultimate live album which not only capture's FRAMPTON and his band perfecting their own special blend of sound and music at their absoulute peak, but he also captures the true experience, spirit and excitement of what being at a live concert is really like. On this special 25th Anniversary Two-CD set Deluxe Edition only, there are four previously unreleased song tracks included which were not included on the original 1976 release. In my opinion, "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" is one of the greatest live albums of all-time. This legendary live album is definitely a true testament of the musical creativity of a great guitar genius and a fine fitting tribute to a great artist who would undoubtedly set the tone as to how live concerts would be recorded after 1976.

And now it is time to let the music speak for itself and do all of the talking. DISC ONE begins with the introduction and the climatic Rocker "Somethin's Happening," the energetic funkish Rocker "Doobie Wah," the beautifully slow soothing "Lines On My Face," the forever legendary FRAMPTON trademark Rocker "Show Me The Way," the breathless Rocker "It's A Plain Shame," the beautifully slow mild acoustic "Wind Of Change," the previously unreleased slow and mind acoustic number "Just The Time Of Year," the uplifting mellow acoustic "Penny For Your Thoughts," another fine energetic acoustic performance "All I Want To be (Is By Your Side)," the slow and most beautifully well crafted song "Baby, I Love Your Way" and the seven minute blistering Rocker "I Wanna Go To The Sun." END OF DISC ONE.

DISC TWO begins with the previously unreleased killer Rocker "Nowhere's Too Far For My baby," the slow groundbreaking Rocker "(I'll Give You) Money," the forever thirteen minute FRAMPTON trademark slow Rocker which contains one of the greatest guitar solo's in all of Rock n' Roll history, "Do You Feel Like We Do," the amazing breathtaking Rocker "Shine On," the previously unreleased incredible Rocker "White Sugar," FRAMPTON'S eight minute tribute and rendition of THE ROLLING STONES classic Rocker "Jumping Jack Flash" and the previously unreleased song that sounds like it was recorded in the studio, the well balanced Rocker "Day's Dawning." May I also add that FRAMPTON'S blistering and merciless guitar licks and riffs that were flowing through his guitar were burning sizzlin' red hot and on fire during these amazing performances. FRAMPTON NEVER sounded better. This is PETER FRAMPTON at his absolute best.

Overall, this is one hell of a legendary historic live album worth seeking further into and checking out especially if you are a newcomer or a new beginner to the sound and music of MR. PETER FRAMPTON. I know for fact that all of the FRAMPTON diehard fans and devout music collector's own a copy of this legendary historic live album.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary historic live album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary live album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. This is one historic live album that no devout music collector would want to be without.

In closing, PETER FRAMPTON has continued to entertain audiences the world over to sellout concerts up to this very day. Following the release and success of "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE," FRAMPTON would also star with THE BEE GEES in a movie about THE BEATLES called "SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND" released in 1978. FRAMPTON would also release new albums to highly critical acclaim in the 80's and 90's. However, in 1995, FRAMPTON would release the sequel to the original 1976 "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE" album with a new live album entitled "FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE II." PETER FRAMPTON has contributed and accomplished so much in Rock n' Roll that he feels that he still needs to give more. In my opinion, I truly believe that we have not seen or heard the last of PETER FRAMPTON yet, HIS BEST IS STILL YET TO COME. So here's to you Peter, John, Stanley and Bob. Thanks for the great memories. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. PETER FRAMPTON RULES. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

5 out of 5 stars and boy does he!!!.......2007-01-27

The guitar playing alone would make this album worth having. The pure rock and roll would make this worth having. Combined, this is an album you must have.

It may not the greatest live album ever (I think it is Warren Zevon's "Stand in the Fire"), but it's pretty damned close.

Not only "...an honorary member of San Francisco Society..." but all society, Mr. Peter Frampton...in all his glory.

Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Frampton's finest moment 30 years on.......2006-08-13

Peter Frampton's Frampton Comes Alive was released in January of 1976.
This album still rocks and does not only feature Frampton's great guitar solos and vocals and Stanley Sheldon's great bass playing but also showed us what great musicians the late John Siomos and Bob Mayo were. John was what Peter called the John Bonham of his band and John's death in January of 2004 was sad and then a month after John's passing keyboardist/occasional guitarist/backing vocalist Bob Mayo died of a heart attack in Switzerland while touring with Peter. This album is a living testament to Peter's band whom played with him from 1975 to 1978.
This live album was completely live save part of the vocal of Something's Happening(the killer opener), the rhythm electric guitar on the classic Top 10 hit Show Me the Way and the piano on I Wanna Go to the Sun(a classic) but the rest is all live(solos, drums, bass and backing vocals).
This classic album features the Frampton standards Show Me The Way(which hit #6 on the singles charts), the Top 20 hit Baby I love Your Way and the Top 20 epic Do You Feel Like We Do in all of its 14 minute plus glory with its famous talk-box section and he and Joe Walsh would have a great talk-box duel.
The other tracks Doobie Wah, It's a Plain Shame, All I Wanna Be (Is By Your Side), Wind of Change, I Wanna Go To The Sun, Penny For Your Thoughts, I'll Give You Money, Shine On, his killer cover of Jumping Jack Flash and Lines On My Face are all superb classics!
This classic live album showed Peter Frampton and his band in all their glory. Besides being a excellent songwriter and singer, Frampton ranks as one of the greatest guitarists in all of rock and roll history.
This live album for the longest time was the biggest selling live album ever and was #1 for a total of 17 unconsecutive weeks making it the best selling album of 1976 hands down.
It's unfortunate that critics panned Frampton for his good looks rather than his musical talent showing critics are more about pazazz and glitter than music integrity.
In January of 2001 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of this classic album, A&M re-released the album in an expanded deluxe version with an expanded booklet and four bonus tracks bringing to album's running time to nearly two hours.
The additional material on the expanded edition includes three additional live pieces(including a killer Nowhere's Too Far For My Baby) as well as an radio broadcast version of Day's Dawning which originally appeared on 1975's Frampton.
This remixed/remastered version was superbly remastered by Bob Ludwig and Peter makes a classic live album sound even more classic today.
Highly recommended!

3 out of 5 stars I just don't get it!.......2006-01-12

While this is a fairly good record, I just don't get why it receives all of the praise it gets. "The Allman Brothers Live At The Fillmore East", "One More From the Road" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, and "The Who Live at Leeds" are three of the live records that are better. Even the live Humble Pie record that Frampton was on leaves this in the dust. I've had this recording in some form (LP, CD) since it was released and it seldom finds it's way to my play list. As I said earlier this is a fairly good record but the best live record ever, PLEASE!

4 out of 5 stars Show Me the Way, One More Time.......2005-12-14

There's nothing new to say about an album this familiar, popular, and previously-analyzed. This was a landmark release of the 70's; its hits remain staples of the classic rock format, and probably always will. So let's skip right to what makes the Deluxe Edition worth buying.

First, the sound: These recordings have been nicely remastered. There is detail audible now that you would never have caught on the original release or on any of the various Greatest Hits collections. The new, expanded packaging also adds to the value. It includes the original liner notes by Cameron Crowe, along with a new booklet with a reflective essay, full lyrics, and archival photos. The four previously unreleased tracks are "Just the Time of Year," "Nowhere's Too Far For My Baby," "White Sugar," and "Day's Dawning." The first three are excellent live recordings from the same tour and flow smoothly into the existing mix, though I would've put "Nowhere's Too Far" after "(I'll Give You) Money," since the latter makes such a great kick-off for the second disc. "Day's Dawning" is an alternate studio version of a track that originally led off 1975's "Frampton." It's pleasant enough, but is a somewhat incongruous and unexciting non-live track to cap off a legendary live album.

All in all, an iconic record of the `70's has been handsomely updated. Not cheap, but worth it.

5 out of 5 stars San Francicso's Adopted Son.......2007-04-25

This CD was first released 20 years after the first 'Alive' recording of 1976. It was a single disk in America (Where it was almost ignored by the Masses). But an Asian/Austrailian version was the Two Disk Set that is now Released as this the "Deluxe Version".

This is a fine Bookend to the Original "Frampton Comes Alive". "Alive 2" features the Same Spirit of One of the Seventies Biggest Talents and Continues the Story where the Original Release ends with more Fine Songs and the Great playing of Peter and his Band: John Regan-Bass Guitar & Vocals... JR Robinson-Drums... and the Late Great Bob Mayo-Keyboards, Guitars & Vocals. There are some Great Songs: "Day in the Sun". "For Now", "You", "Can't Take That Away" and "Off The Hook". Peter's Big Hit: "I'm In You" is here as well and as with all of Frampton's Tunes I prefer this Live Version over the Studio Edition as the Whole Reason for the "Alive' tag is how these Songs become Bigger & Better on Stage. Peter's Playing and Performance has Gotten Better after Thousands of Nights on Stages such as these, and this is the Proof.

The Second Disk features the Most Popular Songs from the 1976 record: "Show Me the Way", "Baby, I Love Your Way", "Lines on my Face" & "Do You Feel Like We Do".

Peter is still out there as I Write this in 2007, still Releasing Great Music and still making the Girl's scream at Sold Out Show's around the World... SHINE ON

Frampton Comes Alive! jettisoned Peter Frampton out of relative commercial obscurity into the bankrolls of success. The album sold millions on the strength of two melodic singles--the rocking "Show Me the Way," and the slower, romantic "Baby I Love Your Way." In traditional 1970s form, the double album also had the prerequisite concert signature song. In Frampton's case it was the lengthy "Do You Feel Like We Do." Introducing Frampton's "talking guitar"--which was nothing but a primitive version of a voice modulator--the song became his calling card, complete with his marathon guitar solo and big rock ending. There's also an iffy version of the Stones' "Jumping Jack Flash," that is basically disposable. In terms of "sides," the double album manages to turn in at least one and a half sides essential to Frampton's rock and roll legacy. The rest is mediocre at best. --Steve Gdula

5 out of 5 stars The title says it all!.......2004-11-01

To date, this is the biggest-selling live album of all-time. I went through two copies of this album, one cassette and one 8-track tape. As a destructive child,I removed the magnetic tape from the outer shell of the cassette. The 8-track tape was sold at a garage sale I had years ago. Peter Frampton was promoting FRAMPTON while recording this album. This album was released in early 1976,so this concert was recorded sometime the previous year. Frampton, late of Humble Pie,was driven to superstardom with this album. His 1977 follow-up I'M IN YOU,shows Frampton on the cover displaying his masculinity, thus making him a teen idol. This album spawned three hits,SHOW ME THE WAY,BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY and DO YOU FEEL LIKE I DO?. He covers the Jagger-Richards classic JUMPING JACK FLASH. I really love BABY(SOMETHING'S HAPPENING) which opens this album. Other electrifying live albums that I love are Bob Seger's LIVE BULLET and NINE TONIGHT,the Bee Gees' HERE AT LAST and ONE NIGHT ONLY,Billy Joel's SONGS IN THE ATTIC,KOHUEPT and 2000 YEARS:THE MILLENIUM CONCERT and Elton John's LIVE IN AUSTRALIA. When this album was released,Frampton was in the limelight with A&M Records labelmates The Captain & Tennille whose album LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER was on the pop/rock charts at the time as well. Many classic rock fans will love this album,if they don't already own it. When the compact disc became increasingly popular in the mid-80's,this album debuted on the CD. Because this was Frampton's all-time best-seller,none of his other albums were on CD back then. Now they're all available, digitally remastered,on CD,including this album. A 25th anniversary deluxe edition of this album was released in 2001.

4 out of 5 stars Great mindless guitar rock.......1998-06-29

For a listner who first experienced rock and roll two decades after this double cd was published, I was pleastenly suprised by what I found in Frampton's music. The lyrics are a different story, serving only to weigh down what what otherwise be great rock instrumentals. Don't purchase it expecting Bob Dylan or Joni Mitchell; the best talking Frampton delivers comes from his guitar during the epic "Do you feel like we do." Do expect some of the best rock of the 70's, music that would move entire arenas even today

5 out of 5 stars SACD Only.......2006-09-13

This is a great-sounding version of a classic rock album from the 70's, but be aware: this is not a hybrid SACD, but SACD only. If you don't have a SACD player, (or know what that means), buy the other (non SACD) version instead.

5 out of 5 stars Love the album, disappointed over the representation by Amazon........2006-08-23

This is my all-time favorite album, as I wore out the grooves in 1976 by playing it so much. I just saw Frampton in concert last month and felt like I was in a time warp. He looks and sounds as great as he did 30 years ago. Anyway, I most certainly had to update from vinyl to CD and purchased the anniversary set. Nowhere in the description did it say that it was only in SACD format. Upon receipt of the set, I couldn't wait to pop it into the CD player, but these CDs will not play on my player, since it is over 10 years old. I have no choice but to return it and get the CD without the SACD format, but then it is not the anniversary edition. I was disappointed that I did not know that by reading the description prior to my purchase.

It sounds very good in SACD Format. Also the newly added Songs are good too.

5 out of 5 stars This is the way a "Live" album should be done..........2005-08-30

Live albums can often be a misleading marketing hook, only because you believe that you're going to get a sense of more energy from a live performance done in front of an enthusiastic audience. UNfortunaltly, many are not and come out sounding like a studio album that was recorded in a stadium that is shared with an NFL team. Not this album. Frampton Comes Alive is still the best damn live rock album ever done. Yes, that's a big claim, but here's why; The overall quality was done first class. Post production was top of the line. You can hear and feel the audience getting into it. You have to remember this was the 70's and people were hurting for some straight ahead rock to listen to. Disco and glitter rock was the order of the day. Frampton, just a young kid at the time blows the audience away. What makes this album totally unique vs other live albums is that you can hear and feel the audience, like you're there with them. They are part of the album, not just some background noise.. The SACD version brings all that to your speakers ten fold. Frampton and his group (still with him in the 21st century) put out the perfect live album. Hearing tracks like "Do you feel like I do" in the SACD format turned up so loud that your ears are in near meltdown is incredible coming from a recording that was done almost 30 years ago. Spend the few extra bucks on this one. You won't regret it.

Product Description

It was March of 1975 when Peter Frampton strolled into the Record Plant is Sausalito to record what would become a live solo album. It wasnt originally intended as anything more than a radio show, a thank-you to KSAN and the rock fans of San Francisco, both of whom had made the Bay Area Framptons biggest market. After leaving Humble Pie, Frampton had a respectable career as a solo artist, but his name was far from being a household word. That would all change in a few months. For this set, Frampton drew from under-exposed material scattered across his four solo albums, songs that he and his band had honed into razor-sharp performances over years of incessant touring. They later became staples of virtually every rock station in America: Do You Feel Like We Do. Baby I Love Your Way. (Ill Give You) Money. Frampton was accompanied by Bob Mayo, Andy Bown, and John Siomos, three-quarters of band that would propel Frampton Comes Alive to the top of the charts (Andy Bown was replaced by Stanley Sheldon). The performances captured at the Record Plant on that March day have an intimacy that wasnt replicated on Comes Alive for obvious reasons, but they absolutely have that same electric energy. Peter Framptons golden era may not have lasted as long as one might have hoped; they never do. This long-lost session is a glorious relic of the brief shining moment just as the rollercoaster was about to take Frampton on a ride he could never have imagined. Longtime Bay Area critic Joel Selvin contributed notes to this record, and the release was remastered from the original master tapes by Suha Gur in 2004. Frampton himself has been involved in every phase of the project, and is as ebullient over the record's release as we are.

4 out of 5 stars A Star is Born in San Francisco.......2007-01-25

By March of 1975, Peter Frampton was a Headliner in San Francisco on the Strength of his Past Concerts there.
Unlike Genesis or Deep Purple who both had Huge Followings of Fans in the Bay Area, Peter's Audience was a bit Different...instead of Pimply-Faced Teenage Boy's, there was a Large amount of SCREAMING GIRLS whenever he played Winterland, and this was WAY COOL.

I had a Ticket for the Friday night show, March 21st, but as I was just getting over a bout with the Chicken Pox, I could not attend, but my Pal, Sam did go and he promised to bring back a copy of the Show on Tape for me.
Not hearing from Sam I had to fly out of Travis Air Force Base on Monday, March 24th to Report to my ship ( USS VEGA ) that was already somewhere in the South China Sea. Late in April I Recieved a small parcel from Sam when my ship got to the Philippines. And it was a good Audience tape of the Friday Show and as a Bonus there was a Copy of a KSAN Radio Broadcast Peter had Recorded on March 24th, The Tape Started right in the Middle of the Tune "Somethin's Happening" but it was real nice to here Peter Without all the Screaming Girls that were on the Winterland tape (They were LOUD). Sam said that Peter was coming back to Winterland in June for a "Special Thank You Concert" and he would have a Ticket waiting for me.

I got Home to the Bay Area the First week of June, and on the 14th Sam and I and those Screaming Girls attended the Show that Most of "Framptom Comes Alive" was Recorded at...

This little Gem of a CD is a Pristine Copy of the KSAN Radio Show of March 24, 1975, Recorded at the Record Plant Studios in Sausalito. It is the Full Band: Peter, Bob Mayo: Keyboards, Guitar & Vocals, John Siomos: Drums and Andy Bown: Bass Guitar & Vocals. It Features Ten Songs:
1. WIND OF CHANGE
2. BABY, I LOVE YOUR WAY
3. SOMETHIN'S HAPPENING
4. DAYS DAWNING
5. LINES ON MY FACE
6. DOOBIE WAH
7. IT'S A PLAIN SHAME
8. I WANNA GO TO THE SUN
9. I'LL GIVE YOU MONEY
10. DO YOU FEEL LIKE WE DO

This is a Limited Edition CD of 5000 Copies and it isn't easy to find, But if you can find this, you will own the Blueprint for "Frampton Comes Alive!" and you will have the Proof of the Reason Peter Frampton was already a Superstar in San Francisco, Ca. in 1974-1975. Hope you Grab a copy of this before the all Disapear !!!

4 out of 5 stars An excellent MFSL release of a 1976 Classic!.......2000-04-03

Perhaps you are Frampton fan who is denying the past. Perhaps you are unwilling to deny the past. In either case, this Original Master Recording by the now out-of-business Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab does rightful justice to one of the most popular and exciting live recordings ever. This particular MFSL release utilzes the company's Ultra Disc II, The Gain System, process of mastering directly from the original master tape and finalizing on a 24-karat gold CD. The resulting gain in fidelity proves very noticable when compared to a standard CD release of the same material. Even if you own other copies, this is the own to own while it is still available.

5 out of 5 stars Get the double cd edition !!!.......2006-11-11

Peter Frampton is mainly known for two things : his "Frampton comes alive" album (I believe the biggest seller of live recordings in music history), and the not less famous "Do you feel like we do?", from that same live act.

Besides that, he has an impressive collection of fine songs, and two more live recordings (the latest being "In Detroit"). Let me tell you that this "II" is just amazing, but you need to get the double cd edition. The story most people don't seem to know is that there are actually two versions of the Frampton comes alive II; for some incomprehensible reason (marginal cost for the record company between a 1 cd and a 2 cd release is peanuts), the more common release is the 1 cd one.

One of the reviewers seemed to say there was something missing in this album. And he is right since he apparently got the 1 cd edition. On cd 2, totaling 39 minutes of music, you will find these four songs :
- Show me the way
- Nassau/Baby I love your way
- Lines on my face
- Do you feel like we do ?

Any of these four songs are a true delight. Since they are also live, they are not a carbon copy of the performance of 1976. "Do you feel like we do" is a classic, and the power generated from this performance is just blowing...The line up is the same as FCA I except for drums (John Siomos is replaced by J.R. Robinson).

As for the rest of the album (CD1), I just cannot find any really weak track. Frampton was also promoting his self-titled album on this tour, and you can find 5 songs from that cd, with the little edge of the live performance, which is always nice, plus a couple of songs that have that "unplugged" sound ("Talk to me" and "Hang on to a dream").

Peter Frampton still is today one of the finest guitarists of the the rock scene, and a fun musician to watch/listen to during his concerts. True that he also has weaker albums ("Premonition" wasn't that great, "The art of control" was more the art of releasing a flat album), but that is true for most artists, when they last (a lot just don't, have you thought about that too?). Has he changed ? Sure. He doesn't have that seventies/beach surfer/Leif Garrett look. He has lost a lot of hair. But who cares ? Larry Carlton also has. James Taylor too. As for Donald Fagen, lots of gray hair too. But they are still there, a reference in their own style of music, and their songs will be everlasting.

In short, get the three live recordings, get "Peter Frampton", get one of his studio recordings pre "Comes alive", or take the short cut and get the "Shine on collection". If you don't, you'll be missing something. Then, get is latest, "fingerprints". Any of those albums I mentioned are power plays.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent performance and sound quality.......2006-10-18

Regardless of what the other reviewers are saying...this is a pretty good concert...You wouldn't expect Frampton to do any repeats of songs he did on the classic Frampton Comes Alive...Why should he??? He has nothing to prove..That album still holds the record as being the largest selling live album in history...how can you improve on a flawless performance that has been remastered to HDCD standards? But then...why would you??

Frampton himself always expressed that he lived for the stage and the rush of the live performace....he never felt the recording studio did his music justice...as it lacked the audience vibe.

I attended the 1976 tour and witnessed the full impact of his stage prowess from a center position not 75 feet from the stage....best location to get the best sound.

I have been a consistent fan since his early days with Humble Pie...and altho I was never really impressed with his post 1976 albums..I feel this live set features his later material in their most beneficial and natural setting....the live concert...
Try and forget the studio versions of these songs and give them a fresh listen....as I did....If you liked Peter Frampton back when he rode the wave of fame in the mid 70's....you wont be disappointed. He pulls out the talk box and uses it sparingly....just to treat you to a bit of nostalgia.....so you can say.....WOW...it really is him.....he might not have the long curly locks anymore...but he still knows how to wield a mean guitar...Whether it's his famed black beauty or any from his sizeable arsenal...there's no mistaking mister Framptons dynamically powerful playing. Bob Mayo is as supportive as ever...John Regan on bass and JR Robinson on drums are a very tight and solid rythym section..The chops are as strong as anything from 1976's classic.

I always wondered if there was more of the post 1976 material to this concert that wasn't included here...Might be nice if they release this CD set in a 2cd deluxe version in HDCD format.

3 out of 5 stars OK, not great.......2004-10-11

"Live In Detroit" is better, "Frampton Comes Alive" is the best. Ironically, Peter frampton is alway better live than in the studio yet in this case, the studio album that this tour was promoting ("Peter Frampton") was better than this performance.

If you can still find a copy of the video that was released simultaneously with this album you'll know why. This was not one of Peter Frampton's better tours (this work was compiled from the San Francisco and Ventura, California shows). This project was poorly conceived and executed. Further, while all excellant musicians, the band was just a bit too loose -- at times downright silly -- to justify putting this event on wax and releasing it to the public.

Oh well, what's done is done.

However, despite my prior comments I still have hope that they will come to rerelease this concert on DVD along with some special features (such as the in-flight interview with Peter Frampton that persuaded me to buy to buy it in the first place). That's because there are some great covers of individual songs (as has been mentioned in other reviews, "I'm In You" comes to mind as does "Lying" and "Off The Hook") There were also eight (8) additional songs* on the video that did not make it to CD.

If you're looking for some truly great Frampton live projects I would steer you toward the 25th Anniversary Special Edition of "Frampton Comes Alive" or "Live In Detroit" instead of this CD. However, if my "wishlist" DVD version of this concert ever becomes available I will buy it since there was no visual record of the original concerts (there were actually five cities and several shows) that "Frampton Comes Alive" came from. If that makes me an unobjective devoted Peter Frampton fan then I suppose it's, "Guilty as charged!" I like this guy, his band, and his music.

* The eight missing songs are as follows: 1) "Sunrise" (actually an extended J.R. Robinson drum solo); 2) "Lines On My Face"; 3) "Show Me The Way"; 4) "All I Wanna Be (Is By Your Side); 5) "Penny For Your Thoughts"; 6) "Nassau/Baby I Love Your Way"; 7) "I Wanna Go To The Sun"; 8) "Do You Feel Like We Do?"

3 out of 5 stars Lightening doesn't strike twice.......2002-07-12

This could be looked at as a sincere attempt to release totally new music in a live setting. Or it could be seen as a shameless attempt to cash in on phenomenon that happened twenty years earlier. Since he didn't throw "Show Me the Way" on this one, I'll give the benefit of the doubt that it's mostly the former, with a little bit of the latter thrown in for marketing purposes.

So on the good side, we have a group of veteran rockers putting on a well-played set. As said before, he didn't duplicate stuff from "Frampton Comes Alive", unless you want to count the part where he "talks" through his guitar. And some of the numbers do rock quite well.

The problem is not enough really good songs. I never liked "I'm in You", which I thought WAS a marketing attempt to sell his picture with his curly locks to the ladies, so if this is the hit, it's disapointing. Also, there are too many other songs in this vein that aren't even as good as that.

Not bad, but not something I'd keep coming back to for more.

5 out of 5 stars Sniper1.......2002-06-26

If you're a Frampton fan, this is a must.
The song, "Most of all", should have made
the top ten in the pop charts. "I'm in you"
played live, is much better than the studio version.

"When all the¨Pieces Fit" ranks among Peter Frampton s' best work since "Breakin All The Rules" (unavailable). Frampton s' career suffered from all the pressure he got after "Comes Alive" was a huge succes. Before "Comes Alive", Peter Frampton was a great guitar player and rocker. You can hear him delivering his best as a session guitarrist in The Who s' John Entwistle s' second solo album "Wistle Rymes" (Ten Little Friends and especially Apron Strings. The title song is one of Frampton s' best songs in years and the rest of the album do not decay.
