Album Description
Import only compilation on Sony features 16 tracks. Highlights include, 'Poison', 'House Of Fire', 'Hell Is Living Without You', 'Go To Hell' (live), & 'School's Out' (live). Originally, there was a band called Alice Cooper led by a singer named Vincent Damon Furnier. Under his direction, Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical and violent brand of heavy metal that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, heavy metal, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood, and huge boa constrictors, all coordinated by the heavily made-up Furnier. By that time, Furnier had adopted the name for his androgynous on-stage personality. While the visuals were extremely important to the group's impact, the band's music was nearly as distinctive. Driven by raw, simple riffs and melodies that derived from '60s guitar pop as well as show tunes, it was rock & roll at its most basic and catchy, even when the band ventured into psychedelia and art rock. After the original group broke up and Furnier began a solo career as Alice Cooper, his actual music lost most of its theatrical flourishes, becoming straightforward heavy metal, yet his stage show retained all of the trademark props that made him the king of shock rock.

4 out of 5 stars One "Hell" Of An Album.......2007-04-24

Although not the first time hearing Adams' music, "Love Is Hell" was the first album I had the chance to listen to from start to finish (albeit in Parts 1 and 2). A thread of sadness is woven throughout every song, and the music and stories are captivating. "Shadowlands" is probably the strongest track, a beautiful yet haunting piano song featuring escalating musical accompanyment. "World War 24" and "City Rain, City Streets" are melodious tracks that give blatant nods to Morrissey and The Smiths. "Afraid Not Scared" sounds a little like Radiohead, while "Wonderwall" is a unique, acoustic interpretation of the Oasis classic. "Please Do Not Let Me Go" is my personal favorite, a sad track that harkens back to Adams' alt-country roots. Overall, this is a well-rounded album, and Ryan Adams fans alike should still feel right at home after giving this record a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Near perfection.......2007-02-13

This is simply a solid CD from beginning to end. Favorite songs include "this house is not for sale" and "wonderwall." His rendition of "wonderwall" is hauntingly beautiful, even as his voice cracks. I've had this CD for a couple of years now and it is still heavy in my rotation.

Highly recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Own.......2006-12-04

Ryan Adams' albums have run the spectrum of music to date. He's shown a breath of vocal, lyrical, and musical talent but the quality has been spotty at times. "Love is Hell" is his best album yet. A solid 5 out of 5 that any music lover can find enjoyment in. At times blues, at times rock, at times country, always hauntingly beautiful. "Anybody take me home", " English Girls", and "Chelesa Nights" are standouts and his cover of Oasis' "Wonderwall" is amazing. I'm usually not a big fan of covers (and Adams seems to be covered more and more lately) but this version is better than the original, at least in my opinion. Ryan Adams fans, rock fans, music fans, buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars Haunting.......2006-08-06

I think what this disc ultimately proves is that Ryan Adams knows how to beautifully craft his roots an influences into a style all his own. Adams brings passion an integrity to his work despite some cuts an bruises. Music lovers, stand up and take notice.

4 out of 5 stars Ryan Adams at his peak.......2006-06-24

If you're a fan of Heartbreaker and Gold, this may not be for you. This album is not like his alt. country predecesors. Instead, Love is Hell is an album with lush electric arrangements and unforgettable melodies. Ryan Adams is the master of making memorable melodies. This album is where he peaked. The opener, Political Scientist is (I hate saying this) like a lost Jeff Buckley song. Much of the album hints at Buckleyesque and Beatlesque type arrangements. At times Adams is quiet, other times he screaming...a very emotional album from start to finish. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because the album gets too long. There are 16 songs on here with a tune that's also on Rock n Roll...it fits well on this collection, but did you really need to make the album one more song longer? Other than that, I love this album.

Watching DMX--baldheaded and shirtless, tattooed and musclebound--as he simultaneously goes platinum and gets arrested on rape charges (both of which occurred within weeks of this album's release), one can easily see the Yonkers, New York, rapper as a Tupac in training. And he's certainly no stranger to dumb thuggery on his much-anticipated debut. But unlike Tupac, who tempered hard-core beatdowns with party pick-me-ups, DMX is strictly business, part of a street reaction against the Puff Daddy-fueled, late-1990s slew of lightweight pop-rap crossovers. With a name too true for its own good, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot could occasionally use a cool breeze of levity. That said, the record is not without merit; despite the album's largely standard-issue beats and rhymes, both DMX's forceful voice and solid production have moments of greatness. At times DMX even manages to squeeze memorable hooks out of this otherwise claustrophobic release. --Roni Sarig

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2007-05-31

"DMX" has had a few cds put out over the years, and they are good. However, "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" would be the best out of them all. The songs, besides the "Skits" are excellent, and well produced. "DMX" knows what he's doing, and shows it well on this cd. If you're a fan, Make sure you have this cd.

4 out of 5 stars It Doesn't Get More Graphic Then This.......2007-05-16

DMX (Earl Simmons) doesn't need to prove he got street credability. He came from very rough conditions and for a while he lived on the streets and his only way to survive was through robbery and he came in contact with the police at early stage. Music was his saviour, but it took quite a while for him to get a record deal, at age 28 Def Jam would finally make it possible with an album (It's Dark and Hell is Hot) that would pretty much be what DMX wanted and covers his rough an violent backround. Released in 1998, DMX a real hardcore MC filled the void after Tupac and Notorious B.I.G and helped the Gangsta Rap to not get fully extinct. At the Time of this release Hip Hop had changed dramatically with the Emergence of Diddy and commercial radio friendly Rap with many guest artists, popular smaples and lyrics dealing with commercialism. But DMX was nothing like that, he teamed up with then unknown record producer Swizz Beatz that produce the majority of songs here and from start to finnish he deals with some of the most serious and roughest issues you've ever heard of, Infact It's so Violent that the Explicit Lyrics tag looks like a bad April's joke. And apart from many other rappers DMX doesn't try to apply to diffrent audiences, he deals with what he knows best and he's very direct to get to the point with graphic story telling, most songs deals with strenght, violence, faith and struggle. He may not be the deep steet poet like Nas, but his music in fascinating cause we know that he's been through it and it's so scary and graphical listening to. DMX flow is more like an agressive dog, he coughs, growls, and barks and constantly used the word "What!" but it makes him unique.

The big hit "Ruff Ryders Anthem" got the Swizz Beatz sound all over it and serves as a good anthem for this album. Other good songs are "Get at Me Dog", "Look Thru My Eyes" "Let Me Fly" and "How it's Going" with Faith Evans, a much slower song then the majority here that deals with sleeping with a woman that is already married, (like he gave a damn anyway)!. On "I Can Feel It" they sample Phil Collins classic song about depression "In The Air Tonight" and is on point. On the 2 minute skit "Prayer" we find DMX revealing his fear for hell and admitting he's been through alot of suffer and pain and made a fair share of mistakes in his life aswell but he's ready to suffer even more if god will show mercy on his brother. This album got 19 songs which is a bit too much perhaps and there's alot of over-serious lyrics for over 60 minutes of plating time, but you got to respect him for not turning commercial and trying to apply to everyone. "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" is Not quite an 5 star album, but it had an significant meaning for Hip Hop and it's a very strong album no matter how you put it. DMX would continue doing some good albums but has now been quiet for a while but should be back this year with a new album. Beat Maker Swizz Beatz is now one of the finest producers in the world. Overall rating 4'5 stars.

4 out of 5 stars THIS IS HIS BEST ALBUM TO ME.......2007-02-18

dmx, to me, was at his hungriest here. you can hear it in just about every track. GET AT ME DOG is like my untimate fave from him. i remember when it came out in '98. it was soooooo refreshing to hear some no holds barred hardcore hip hop. i love his intensity here as well. once again, it is at its best here.

5 out of 5 stars One of the few original rap phenomenoms of the last 10 years...................2007-01-12

X came out gate hard with his debut in 98. Coming off his scene stealing cameos on Mase's "24 Hrs to Live" and The Lox's " Money Power Respect", DMX exploded into the rap game. A lot of people compare X to Pac, but I don't see it. DMX was definitely an original. Dude came with the aggressive up in yo face flow. He won out because he was the ultimate underdog that brought the end to the shiny suit era!

The only DMX album I will ever own. This is when X was serious and added that hard vibe rap was startin' to lose with the rise of the pop rappers. The best production on all of his albums and he actually had somethin to say and this started the ruff ryders era. Recommended.

2 out of 5 stars I would have liked this more when I was 16.......2007-06-28

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of experimental music of all kinds. I'm always ready and willing to dive into something which is unlike anything I've heard before. I'm also no stranger to Genesis P. Orridge's work, having heard all of Throbbing Gristle's albums, many Psychic TV albums, and having enjoyed his work with Pigface.

TG is a mixed bag for me. I appreciate the dynamic of the group and the balls it took to make and stand by the music when they did... but now it just seems trite. Only very occasionally did they manage to break through the gimmick of banging on things to make noise and create a piece of "musick" that affected me on anything more than a basic visceral level.

What I've heard of Psychic TV affects me the same way, only instead of making noise, they are writing the most obnoxiously meaningless imitations of pop songs imaginable. Whenever I'm reminded of them, I always wonder why so many people who are into underground type experimental music enjoy PTV so much. The only thing I can figure is that it's the corny pseudo-religious aspects of their philosophies. Whatever the case may be, it usually ends up sounding much like everything I've always hated about popular music, but done badly. The only exception is their album Trip/Reset, which I do still listen to on occasion. I really can't tell you why I enjoy that album and not the rest, but I think it has something to do with the consistency of mood throughout it. It's very mellow, and aptly named.

I bought this album anyway. I got it because of the quick sound samples I heard on Amazon. It sounded different from the things I hate about PTV, but some of it also reminded me of the things I liked about Trip/Reset. I thought it might be a new direction for the group.

Well.. it is a new direction for them. But unfortunately, hearing the songs in full turned out to be a tedious experience. The albums opener sounds like a dumbed down Johnny Rotten/PIL imitation. The second song was entirely forgettable. The third song sounded like a different version of the first. Maximum Swing, my favorite song off the album, starts out a little bit interesting, but quickly degenerates into an unbearably repetitive waste of bytes. The next two songs have a similar vibe as some of the tracks I liked off of Trip/Reset, but holy crap.. they just drone on and on with no point whatsoever. The rest of the album is entirely throwaway. Hookah Chalice and Just Because sound like retreads of tracks 1 and 5, and BB sounds like The Cult with an even more annoying and whiny singer. The last song is simply a joke. Sitar samples with stilted vocal drones. The song is 7 minutes long, but it sounds like it took less than a minute to "write".

Bottom line:

Most of these songs have some sort of potential, but they have no business being as long as they are, and Genesis sounds younger and more immature as he gets older.

On the other hand, this might be the "punkest" album I've heard in years. I guess I just grew out of the "punk" thing a long time ago.

If they would start focusing on actually writing music and stop trying so hard (and failing so hard) to be scary or edgy, they might be onto something. As it stands now, they are simply laughable to me.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great f-cking record!.......2007-06-23

wonders never cease! First I'll say that this is a cyber glam record, only it's very analogue, with a Ziggy Star Dust 2007 sound. I wouldn't have guessed a sound like this, a sound that I associate as an old rock sound, could sound so fresh, so right so now, i am of the avante guard variety when it comes to music, but some how this works! on glam pop rock estetics as well as pagan occultic modes of expression and also on the poetic museing level, there is no industrial sound here but definately a dose of psychedelic. I might also add that this is a great summer time record.

5 out of 5 stars This is a dynamic return!.......2007-06-12

This new incarnation of Psychic TV, or PTV3, sounds great. Gen's new band sounds powerful, and their grooves can make your body move without conceding to rock stereotypes. This album sacrifices none of PTV's experimental side, or their songwriting side. On most of their albums, you have some experimental songs, and some songs that are more in the classic style of songwriting. On this album, it's experimental pop songs or poppy experimental songs all the way through (and I mean pop like early Pink Floyd or The Stones, not in a demeaning way). The way the band rocks and grooves draws one in, while the structures and textures sound fresh, new, and challenging.
I love all of their albums, and every phase of their evolution, but I think this may be their best. If you haven't listened to PTV lately, you're in for a pleasant surprise. If you haven't heard them at all, this is a great place to start.

5 out of 5 stars A Splendid Souvenir to Remember a Spectacular Performance!.......2003-10-30

Having been fortunate to have seen the English National Opera's production in 1988 of "Orpheus" with Wilson and Pountney's outrageously naughty English text, this highlight CD serves as an audio souvenir. Too bad the ENO didn't have the foresight to film the production-would have made a great DVD. The CD booklet does have a few photos of the sets designed by Gerald Scarfe (who also designed Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album artwork) so you get a taste, combined with the CD selections, of what the production was like.

5 out of 5 stars god moves in a peculiar way.........i am god.............2002-01-17

Offenbach is great anyhow, but this recording is riotous. The translation into English is first-rate, really funny stuff, and the singing is pretty good, too. Very worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars Orpheus in the Underworld.......2000-03-17

The rewritten lyrics, in English, are some of the wittiest and wicked in operetta. Wilson and Pountney have recaptured the spirit of naughtiness, not a small accomplishment in our licentious times. Though delighted to have the highlights, I wished a CD set or video of the full production were available.

4 out of 5 stars Excerpts.......1999-12-23

This is a collection of excerpts. It is in English and is quite good. The performance of the entire operetta has been discontinued and it is a pity.

5 out of 5 stars Highlights or total Opera?.......1999-11-01

I would like to know if this is highlights from the opera or the total opera.

5 out of 5 stars Elly Ameling now more available .......2007-03-07

I had a 33 rpm album of Elly Ameling singing Schubert lieder accompanied by piano and clarinet at times. It was one of my all time favorite albums so I have been disappointed that I have not been able to find it anywhere on CD.

Now I can just buy this excellent collection. So much music in one place! Since I confess that I am far from an expert on the rest of her records, I look forward to hearing her sing many other styles and composers.

I think it is silly to criticize her for not singing Wagner, for example, since her version of many songs, especially lieder, are nothing short of sublime. I would like to hear how many Wagnerians sing Schubert or Mozart.

I doubt if they could approach the skill and soul with which Elly Ameling sings lieder.

5 out of 5 stars Delight in every note.......2006-03-10

To speak as briefly as possible about this superb collection from an equally superb singer, what can I say but that Ms Ameling possessed a voice that shone with radiant warmth and star-like shimmer? And unlike many another light lyric soprano, Elly Ameling was possessed of a very high standard of musicianship, considerable intelligence, and a sort of immediate charm that captivates the listener.

So many of her recordings have still to be released on CD, but this 5CD-set goes some way towards remedying the situation. The repertoire spans a wide variety - French mèlodies, Lieder, light-hearted "sentimental" songs, Bach, etc. - and in each piece, Ms Ameling shows that quality of pearl-like beauty. It is a beauty which is also extremely pretty - a beauty of voice that is never overbearing and over-ripe, but perfectly blossoming upon the tree of inspiration.

I recommend this set unequivocally. It truly is sheer delight.

5 out of 5 stars While they last..........2005-05-17

Elly Ameling held the quiet stage for recitals of great artistry and dignity for several decades and sadly most of the enormously successful CDs of her long career output are now unavailable. For those who have little access to the documentation of this very special artist, this box set is a must. It is a compilation of many of her recordings with differing accompanists, conductors, orchestras and composers. And while not all of the choices for inclusion here would be considered her greatest moments, there are enough works that sustain the warm memories of the little Dutch hausfrau who quietly and simply paid homage to composers with her clear and intelligent musicianship and radiant voice.

Ameling was known to schedule recitals of Schubert cycles and songs and in the afterglow of her performance answer the demand for curtain calls with additional Schubert melodies: she gifted her audience with the dignity of honoring a composer's works by maintaining the focus on that composer rather than milk the audience with the usual encore applause-getting favorites. And special moments such as quietly and pensively strolling through the orchestra during the Mahler 4th symphony to arrive at front stage, unapplauded, just in time for the opening line of her singing - those simple homage to composers and collaborators made her selfless manner endearing to audiences.

Despite the fact that Ameling's voice was on the small side she was always able to muster the projection to carry her message solidly in context with an orchestra. Yes, other more famous singers have recorded Ravel's quintessentially French SHEHERAZADE, but few have the perfection of diction and aura of mystery that Ameling maintained. Whether singing with piano or orchestra, or interpreting Bach, Mozart, Handel, and Vivaldi with the same degree of involvement as Brahms and Schumann and Schubert, Elly Ameling spanned a career that engendered passionate commitment from her fans. And this boxed set is a pocket full of memories to be treasured. Buy it before this too becomes unavailable. Grady Harp, May 05

        5 out of 5 stars Treasures From a Treasure.......2004-09-25

        Treasures from a Treasure.

Ameling, one of the world's most beloved recitalists is captured here in a 5 CD collection offering some of her most beautiful recordings of song. While we are used to her perfection in songs of Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Faure and Hahn, an added joy is her "pop" side, tackling - without a whiff of pretension, Porter, Kern, Gershwin, Ellington, et al.

What an absolute joy it is listening to this amazing artist sing these songs with an almost uncanny natural ease. There is no resorting to a "pop" voice and yet most of these pop standards songs sound as though they could have been written for her. Clean attacks, sometimes a bit of the pop technique of hanging on to a consonant longer than a classical artist normally would shows an appreciation and understanding of the style. Still, there is never once a compromise of her vocal beauty.

I like the way the songs have been arranged for her voice in that she sort of sings them clean, unaffected in the first half and then lets loose and kinda "swings" with it adding embellishments but never really changing her voice (Price, von Stade and other favorite singers of mine seem to have always added a breathy quality to much of their crossover material.)

Ameling doesn't resort to trying to "let her hair down" or get down and dirty, but rather the honest with which she approaches every one of these songs shows how much she enjoys singing them and her style is as refreshing as stumbling onto a cool spring on a sweltering summer's afternoon. A wonderful surprise.

5 out of 5 stars More than fully earned praise for an exceptional singer........2003-07-15

As I had the privilige of hearing this outstanding Lied-singer during her long career in Holland and being the proud possessor of almost all her recordings, I cannot but fully agree with the professional and joyful review of Mr. Robert Holliston from Victoria, B.C. Canada.
Yes, it is unbelievable that of about the 150 recordings Mrs. Ameling made during her long career (for the greater part of course on the 'oldfashioned' LP's, as well as the innumerable Dutch live-recorded radio-concerts), so few CD's have been released.
Speaking of tradition: it was the page-turner of the Wigmore Hall in London who told Mrs. Ameling after her first recital in this hall, that she reminded him of Elisabeth Schumann. (And he certainly didn't mean her looks only!)
For those who are eager to hear her singing Ravel's Shéhérazade (just one example of stirring imagination combined with her Art of Singing) I can tell you that Philips released a 2-box CD of this work in 1999, combined with Debussy's La Damoiselle élue and a compilation of French mélodies, i.e. Debussy, Fauré, Duparc, Satie. One of the gems is Caplet's Le Corbeau et le Renard which even make children, who know the fables of La Fontaine, revel in the singing of the quarrelsome birds....
Her brilliant accompanyist is Rudolf Jansen. Let us cherish great artists in their art!

        1 out of 5 stars Shouldn't y'all expect more?!!!.......2004-08-04

I am a huge alt. country fan. I love Wilco, Son Volt, etc. So I have some affection for Whiskytown, Ryan Adam's old band. They were good, but not pioneers like Farrar and Tweedy. Anyway, I also like good indie pop, but I am very picky. So, with these two interests in mind I having been researching Ryan Adams and decided Love Is Hell part 2 was my best bet. I just can't get into it. The song writing is bland and just does not hang with me. The production is sparse, but it still has that top 40 gloss. It's ironic, because Adams never gets played on top 40. Anyway, I agree with a previous reviewer that Adams needs some quality control. His other albums essentially suck. I do think he is capable of writing some 4 star stuff. If he would just pick his best tunes, stick with mimimalist warm production, and bring back Gillian Welch and David Rawlings to produce, we might get something good. Damn, I really want to get into this dude but to no avail. He is branded an alt. country bad boy, but he is nothing more than a top 40 wanna be who can't even write a song for that format. Too bad, Whiskytown sounded pretty good. Now people with all your 5 star reviews, shouldn't you expect more from music. Quit lapping up everything some says is cool. Why do we put up with all this crappy songwriting and production and force ourselves into believing we have some quality. Quality left in 1980, but we can bring it back. Rise up! Expect more!

        4 out of 5 stars A Very Talented Man.......2004-07-15

Love is Hell Part 2 is astonishing. It seems ridiculous that Adams' record company was not willing to put the Love Is Hell albums out.
The album emanates a quiet, late night with a bottle of wine and a candle. The beautiful melodies are full of sincere thought and emotion.
English Girls Approximately is the standout track but nothing on this album lets you down. Excellent stuff.

4 out of 5 stars The whole thing.......2004-06-19

You can't just review half of this full album, which is now available in one piece. Recorded as the official follow-up to 2001's brilliant Gold, then jettisoned by his record company, Lost Highway, Adams considers this his truest artistic statement, and that seems like a fair self-assessment. It's a beautifully written album, and Adams sings like he means every word.
The title track is rollicking fun, followed by a cover of "Wonderwall" that stakes a claim for Adams as its new owner, even in the eyes of its writer, Noel Gallagher of Oasis. There's a splendid and wistful sadness in "This House is Not For Sale," a song that's actually about ghosts in their old house-sounds weird, but it really works. Adams can carry off an up-tempo tune as well, bringing Part 1 nearly to a close with "World War 24." The final song, "Avalanche," fades out beautifully, wrapping up the first EP so that it would stand well on its own as an eight-song album.

Instead, the second EP continues the mood of the first, though it is clearly a different side of the same record. (The full album has been issued on vinyl, which is what qualified it to be considered as a single entity.) With "Please Do Not Let Me Go" we discover the real impetus for such a sad work-the death of a close friend. This vein of tribute-thought continues on "City Rain, City Streets," tumbles into "I See Monsters," and completes a three-four-five punch on "English Girls Approximately." The latter lifts the mood musically just in time, jangling with the flair Adams displayed on Gold, but even here the lyrics are sad, as the girl Adams loves says she doesn't love him.

Overall, Love is Hell is a remarkable album. It changes setting halfway through-EP 1 seems to "take place" mostly in a rural setting, while EP 2 is more urban-but it holds together as one record. Its depth of emotion and the variety of tempo and instrumentation choices Adams makes to surround his weighty material make it worth having as a whole. It would be tough to divide it, in any case: the best material on each EP is sandwiched in its center, giving the overall album a good balance. Turns out you can be prolific and make coherent albums. May other artists take note.

5 out of 5 stars It Moves Me.......2004-06-03

Sometimes sad songs feel so right. They bring you down and bring you up. The melancholia probes your emotions like a taser, causing you to wince at the slightest lilt or change in tone. A single note can break your heart and one lonely word can bring you to tears. When you're in this disposition of augmented sensitivity, and your feelings have been broken and battered, I'm sure the thought that Ryan Adams brilliantly exposes often sticks out in your mind like a fluorescent billboard: "Love Is Hell". The songs on this incredible ep all attest to the pain and suffering that are often brought about by the debilitation of heartbreak. The gambit of crestfallen piano tinkles that begin My Blue Manhattan forebode the entrancing despair that later follows on the album. This opening number, to me, is the ideal song for drunkenly sobbing in an empty bar-room at 4 in the morning. It's tired, lonesome, despressed and exactly what you need. Following this inebriated wallowing is my favorite song on Love Is Hell, Please Do Not Let Me Go. I won't write much about it, because too many feelings overwhelm me when listening to it. It's just so sad and so beautiful, a song that makes you wonder how the hell a person can pinpoint seemingly inexplicable emotions in a breathtaking ballad of desolation. The third song, City Rain, City Lights, starts out in a more uplifting manner, but ends in an astounding crescendo of despair, "I am going to push them away, fall into the leaves of the winter trees, drowning slowly, lonely, my city rain." The next number, I See Monsters, calls Elliot Smith (r.i.p.) to mind with its eerie, paranoid folk aura. Conjuring the sheer terror of true love, this song is both startling and strangely enchanting. English Girls Approximately follows in the most positive and cheery manner of any of the previous songs. It's a bit long and rambling, but still a very solid tune. Thank You Louise brings the mood back down again in describing the sorrowful life of Mary Louise and the passing away of one of her children. Concluding the sadness of Love Is Hell is Hotel Chelsea Nights, one of the most brilliant and beautiful album codas I've heard in a long, long time. The anthemic chant "Strung out like some christmas lights, out there in the chelsea nights" will stay with you for months. In a word, this ep is absolutely stunning from start to finish. I especially recommend it for those who are down, but I'm sure that anyone can appreciate the heart and soul that Ryan and Adams put into this fantastic recording.
