Possibly the best album available!.......2006-05-23
This is quite possibly the best single album collection in print today. Glitters, "Many Happy Returns" album in the 1990s was better though, but that collection of his hit singles is no longer in print.
Ignore the below reviewers who don't just judge the music. Also, I disagree with the person who said a compilation of various glam rock artists would serve better. That would just give a very brief overview of the glam rock genre. This album gives a good look into Gary Glitter's Great Hit's.
Also I wonder if JediHobbitRockStar really knows what she is talking about in her review. She thinks she's some kind of Glam Rock expert, but she has several things wrong.
I don't recall any artists saying they "left Glam rock" because of Glitter. If most of those acts thought Glitter was a joke then how come he was good friends with both David Bowie & Marc Bolan and shared offices with them in the 1970s? I think she is just trying to ram an opinion down people throats by using false and phony "information" that she made up as she was typing. Infact Glitter was very influential to music proved by the long list of acts who covered his songs - not just The Spice Girls, I notice she used them to try and sum up his fan base and influence by why didn't she mention Oasis, Generation X, etc, etc. She also fails to mention that Glitters music was - in the 1980s and 1990s - much more popular than most (and just as popular as any) of all the other 70s acts she tries to heap the praise on.
She also tries to suggest that Glitter jumped on a band wagon on a new musical genre. Glam Rock wasn't anything new, the music was nothing that hadn't been done in the 50s and 60s and even the fashion wasn't new. "Glam Rock", be it Bolan, Bowie, or Glitter was a marketing tool for 1970s Rock N Roll and Gary Glitter had been cutting rock n roll records since the late-1950s. Another key point she also fails to include is that Gary was touring with all these other acts back in the 1960s, before they also found their fame (meaning he was their at the beginning and not just a man who later jumped in). Surley, if she knew anything about Glam Rock and it's history like she claims she would know this.
Most of his hit's are on this collection. "Rock N Roll", "Leader Of The Gang", "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again", you also get his version of "The Wanderer"!
Hit after hit after hit, this is a first-rate album!
Only the music......please!!!.......2006-05-18
If you like glam rock this is ok, but an album with the greatist hits of glam rock will serve you better.....if you are some idiot that wants to compare the music to the man------Please, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THE SOCIAL COMMENTARY!!!
Good music, Bad Crime.......2006-03-10
Glitter's crimes will be judged by the law like everyone else. As sick as they are, his music is not to blame and you don't have to be a rock star to be a (...), or any other horrible crime. Most sex criminals are not on rock star salaries, so telling people to adandon Glitter's music won't make the problem go away, neither will it stop other sickos doing it. Most people only care about this because Glitter is famous, yet, there are hundred and hundreds of cases right now of both men and women who harm children. They are no better (as most will agree) and infact we all know there is a lot that are more fatal (children also get killed, thankfully, Glitter himself isn't that sick). Our time and efforts would be better spent doing what little we can to prevent people getting the opptinity to do this in the first place, than going around the net to post messages about how some old rocker is a slimebag.
FOR ANY ONE ON A NOSTALGIA TRIP.......2006-02-19
Growing up as part of the glam rock movement of the early 70's I never really was a big fan of Gary Glitter, to me Marc Bolan was the ultimate pop star. I could never see the attraction of Gary Glitter even in his 20's he looked fifty and believe it or not he was a mega star in Europe and the women loved him. This album is great if you remember the songs originally and want to be part of a nostalgia trip. Like it or not most of these songs represent the glam scene in the UK 72-74, the songs weren't even good then but Gary Glitter was never meant to be taken seriously, it was a fun period in pop music, which was camp and over the top. Don't analize them enjoy them for what they are, great party songs.
Fine Music.......2006-02-07
This album is not the best collection of Garys music, but it nevertheless contains many of the songs he placed on the UK charts between 1972 and 1980. One of the reasons I am doing this review is in response to below comment about Joan Jetts covers being better than Gary Glitters originals, not true.
Gary Glitter did not leave a lot to be desired as a rock n roll star. While I respect the Joan Jett fan for saying that Glitters crimes had no effect on her view of his music, I would say that Gary was one of the finest rockers of the 20th century. Very few had his stage presence, even other glam rock acts of the time Alice Cooper and Kiss (two American acts of the 1970s) and The Sweet, came close at times, but Gary Glitter was the leader of the rock n roll gang and was the ultimate showman of the era.
If you like rock music, then check this album out. Glitters influence in music can still be heard today, even if some wish not mention his name.

Great Music From the 1970s.......2006-02-08
This collection of Gary's music presents most of his hit singles from the 1970's and a few choice albums cuts. It's only half of what's on the double "Ultimate Gary Glitter" album, but the 16 songs that make it here are all winners.
Gary's career began in the late 50's, under the name Paul Russell, he toured clubs in Britain and Germany and recorded for Decca and Parlophone in the 60's, changing is name to Paul Raven and Paul Monday, before signing to MCA in the late-60's.
In 1971, he changed his name again to Gary Glitter (after considering Terry Tinsel, Stanley Sparkle, and others) and signed to Bell records. He became a superstar, with his first single for the label "Rock N Roll (Parts One & Two)" racing to the top of the charts in Europe, before going on to also being a huge hit in the United States Of America.
Many critics thought Glitter would be a quick fad, even when his follow up "Didn't Know I Loved You" made the top five. However, Glitter was just beginning, more hit's came with "Do You Wanna Touch Me?", "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again" and the smash "Leader Of The Gang" (the song which became his career anthem and spent four weeks at Number 1 in the United Kingdom).
Glitter was like a snowball that was getting bigger and bigger, he followed hit after hit, with his next single "I Love You Love Me Love" selling over 1 million copies in the UK within it's first 10 days of release, and staying at Number 1 for a month!
More hit's followed, of course, including another Number 1 with "Always Yours". As the decade went on Glitter continued to make music and enjoy success, but he was now no longer album to reach Number 1. "Oh Yes, You're Beautiful" did get him to Number 2, and other singles, such as "Love Like You And Me", "It Takes All Night Long" and "You Belong To Me" also charted, but Glitter went to New Zealand in the 1980's to star in the rocky horror show.
He came back to England, too, and released some singles and also played some concerts. In 1981 he was back in the charts, on TV regularly and continued to record fairly regularly for the rest of the '80's and '90's, including a version of Gene Vincents "Be Bop A Lula".
This 16 track collection contains "Rock N Roll", "Leader Of The Gang", "Always Yours", "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again", "Remember Me This Way", "Rock On" and "I Love You Love Me Love". It is pure classic Rock.
Don't buy this!!.......2005-11-27
This guy is a convicted paedophile and is currently in custody and being questioned about having illicit sex with two young Vietnamese girls in Vietnam, one of whom is only 12-years old. Now I haven't heard his music, I don't recognize the songs, but considering how sick and twisted this guy is, I would strongly recommend you avoid buying his CDs!
GREAT ROCK AND ROLL.......2003-11-25
Gary Glitter is not always recognised by his name yet almost every one has tapped their toes to his music. In some of the songs you can hear a hint of T-Rex. The 50's songs are very well done. Well worth buying if you are a Glitter fan or someone just looking for a hard rocking album with great music.
