5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-02-16

This audiobook had me laughing out loud from start to finish. The vocal performances are top-notch, and I enjoyed the use of sound effects as well -- it reminded me of the old radio plays. Bruce Campbell fans should not miss this audio performance!

5 out of 5 stars Hey Bruce...Let's Make Love!!.......2007-01-04

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!! A wonderful look at a hypothetical "big budget" movie as only Bruce Campbell can tell it! From the first page to the last page it is an excellent read. A definate "must" for all Bruce Campbell fans and also a "must" for anyone who just wants to sit down and read a good book. It WILL keep you entertained! I also purchased the book on tape as well and it was just as good! As Bruce said, "You've read the book, now HEAR the movie!" Yes, indeed!!

5 out of 5 stars The True Blue B.......2007-01-04

Fan-Tastic. Bruce Campbell gives a grade A performance for your amusement. Perfect for any Bruce Campbell fan. 5 stars*****

5 out of 5 stars Groovy Audio Book.......2006-08-11

This was the first audio book I ever listened to and it probably ruined all other audio books for me because it is so entertaining that now when I hear an audio book I want it to be like this not read by some uptight old man. Bruce Campbell is hilarious and this is a must have for any of his fans. Even if you aren't a fan I think you will enjoy this.

5 out of 5 stars Bruce Campbell is awesome.......2006-03-10

If you don't have time to read the hilarious book, then definately get the cd, bc he acts out the entire novel with character voices and everything. Great for road trips. BUY IT NOW!

5 out of 5 stars Memories that are classic.......2005-12-13

The first time I heard this album, and the previous Like A Ripple on a Pond, I was a freshman at Ohio State University, away from home and on my own for the first time in my life, and living around more white folks than I could imagine inhabited the planet. As only one of less than 1500 minority students of all races at a university that had over 40,000 students on its main campus, I felt as powerless and as insignificant as a gnat facing down a 100 watt light bulb. But then the word came down that Nikki Giovanni would be performing her poetry at the student union. I got to hear the sister speak live the words that I had repeated over and over as I listened to the albums on my record player. It was so good to be in a room full of folks like me who could speak every word of the poetry we had memorized as we played the albums over and over, time and again. The sister was church, a soulful experience. The gospel of Bernard Diggs and the New York Community Choir, the power of Sister Nikk's poetry made my small, cramped dorm space bearable. Nikki Giovanni, along with Dick Gregory, made the experience of being a speck of color in a sea of white bearable. Her poetry renewed my strength, gave me courage, and made me want to get past all the hurts and insults too often black students on all white campuses had to endure in those early days when we were the first vanguard of blacks that walked through the doors the civil rights movement had opened just a crack. And now years later I am a professor of English. I use the sister's peotry as often as I can, both Truth is on Its Way and Like a Ripple on a Pond. They are my most vibrant teaching tools as examples of free verse, imagery, rhyme and meter. I am happy to say that it is my younger white students who are the most swept up in the spirit after hearing How I Got Over or a Ripple on a Pond for the first time. I get the same reply, "Don't turn that off. I want to hear the whole CD." I am glad I can tell them where they can get it. Lord knows, a sister is tired of making copies.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest.......2004-01-25

This is one of the greatest albums of any genre. The poetry is outstanding and so is the gospel music. You will listen to this work over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars TIMELESS.......2003-01-09

I first heard this in LP form at my grandmother's home when I was a child. Then, it was very popular in our family as well as our neighbors' families, especially Nikki being a Chicagoan. It was nice I thought, but I did not realize how important this work was until I grew into adulthood. The music is music for the soul and second to none. Superbly arranged and performed. The poetry is right on point, comforting, informative, and distressing but mostly comforting . Every American should have this work in their home and introduce it to their family and community.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest!.......2001-04-02

I bought this ALBUM 31 years ago, when I was 13. I memorized every poem on it. I played it so much, I wore the poor thing out. I was delighted when I came across the CD. I can't begin to express how this collection of poems touched my life. There is something for every mood and feeling. If you have never heard it, get it and get uplifted!

    5 out of 5 stars Great stuff.......2005-08-08

I remember this album from my high school years & listening brought back a lot of memories. Pretty tame stuff compared to Carlin's newer work.

4 out of 5 stars Some Classic Stuff In Here..........2005-07-21

When listening to this album, you have to remember that this was Georgies first. And even then, for a first attempt, its pretty damned good. The track Wonderful Wino is a hilarious first take on a sketch that gets even better on his album FM & AM. This cd is an excellent example of Carlins comedic style that eventually morphed into the classic angry humour that many of his fans know and love today, especially seen in his latest album Complaints and Grievances. I cant give this album a five star rating because the final track isnt terribly funny, but if you appreciate Carlins older stuff as well as his new material, you should definatly buy this cd.

Abuse and Flowers should be sent to michael_shagwell@hotmail.com

5 out of 5 stars Example of early (if less explicit) genius-classic!.......2003-05-28

This early album of comedy, recorded at the Roostertail in Detroit, shows the emerging genius that was and still is the legacy that George Carlin will leave to comedy.
Though less explicit (certainly) than his later albums, nonetheless, it's still funny. I'd like to see someone reissue a contemporary of Mr. Carlin's (who also was on "Little David" records, his later comedy label) the late, great, Clerow "Flip" Wilson; who's album, The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress, has some "classic" routines on it as well. Great introduction to the mind of a comic genius.

5 out of 5 stars "It's our pick to make you sick!".......2002-12-21

This album was actually released in 1967, but the original RCA copies are pretty hard-to-find (my Dad's had his copy ever since it first came out), so the 1972 reissue on Pickwick/Camden with a drawing of a bearded George is more common and easier to find. The absolute classic is obviously "Wonderful WINO". George also appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" many times around this time, and he did some of the routines found on this album.
I have the promo-label copy of the single of this--can you imagine that this was actually played on the radio atthe time? Then again, I can't imagine George putting out a routine out as a single now, but it would be very amusing to see his new single: "Farting in Public".

5 out of 5 stars There'll be a rain dance Friday night, weather permitting.......2000-09-21

This is a great early album by George Carlin, back from the days when he wasn't trying to change the world and hadn't become the annoying old bore he is today. "Wonderful WINO" is a classic, parodying the nonsense on top-40 radio shows. Some other Americanisms that are the victim of Carlin's sense of humor are commercials and daytime television. "The Indian sergeant" is great fun too ! If you have the slightest sense of humor, you will truly enjoy this album. It's hilarious !

    Album Description

One of the top comics working for the last 19 years, and a Comedy Central staple, Nick Di Paolo was a regular on"Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn", the voice of "Baby Nick" on the animated series "Shorties Watchin' Shorties", He's roasted Pamela Anderson, Jeff Foxworthy and Denis Leary, to perfection and did one of the voices on "Crank Yankers". He's done two half hour specials on the network, many "Comics Come Home" benefits, as well as HBO's "Young Comedians Special". Talk shows include many appearances on Leno, Letterman, Conan, Kimmel, Carson Daly and a regular guest and favorite on "The Howard Stern Show". Television appearances also include "Grace Under Fire", "News Radio" "The Sopranos", Spike TV, MTV, VH-1, ESPN, "The Chris Rock Show" (2 Emmy nominations) and HBO's upcoming series "Lucky Louie". He has also written for books, film and television, including The Academy Awards, MTV's Video Music Awards. "Gentle as a starved wolverine and as predictable as a tipsy-hop through a minefield, Nick Di Paolo's CD is an experience constrained only slightly by the demands of stand up comedy."

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Born This Way.......2005-09-20

Nick Dipaolo is one of the smartest and funniest comics around. You will die laughing - and it gets funnier everytime, because you hear things you didn't hear the first time because you laughed right over it. Loved him on Tough Crowd and all the Comedy Central Roasts. I've worn out this CD and I'm trying to find his new CD Road Rage.

5 out of 5 stars Interesting & Of Historical Importance.......2007-07-10

This rare recording from 1967 at the University of Southern California is a gem featuring Broadway/Hollywood/recording greats Fred Astaire, Frank Sinatra, Ethel Merman, Gene Kelly, and Jimmy Stewart, with Roger Edens on the piano and emceed by Garson Kanin. Each takes a stab at Porter songs they made famous while sprinkling them with interesting antidotal stories and personal remberances of Porter. A must have for the Porter devoutee.

I love this Cd - It's like being present at a dinner party with the celebrities of a generation! It's so informal and casual, Just a piano accompanies the talent - lot's of "Porter" stories - Ethel's a bit loud but the rest are wonderful!!

5 out of 5 stars My favorite all time album finally on CD!.......2003-03-03

60 Years Of Music America Hates Best is Spike Jones` masterpiece and a scream! When my dad was stationed in France around 1960 he would go to the base exchange and buy trippy albums like this for us kids. We completely trashed it, of course, but not until it had seen about a million spins. In 1990 I was in hog heaven when I found a SEALED vinyl copy at a used record store. Now it's out on CD and my life is complete. Thank you Taragon Records!

4 out of 5 stars Something a little different from Spike Jones.......2003-01-25

After Spike's original comedy band, the City Slickers, broke up (as happened to all the swing bands of the same vintage), Spike's recordings took a different approach. Here we have in beautiful stereo two projects based on two different themes. "Omnibust" is a parody of television shows of the early 60s, including westerns, kid shows, travelogues, soap operas, sports events, and plenty of "commercials." Note that this is more of a "comedy sketch" than the musical craziness Spike is identified with. The "60 Years..." album is a collection of songs from the 1920s, 30s, 40s, and 50s -- from ragtime to rock n' roll -- with Spike-Jones-type sound effects tossed in. It's not the old City Slicker band, but quite amusing never-the-less. Two nostalgic items with a sense of humor!
