    "Except for 'The Chief', the two most famous passenger trains in the last decades of passenger service were the 'Super Chief' and the 'El Capitan'. Introduced with great fanfare; operated with aplomb and panache by the Santa Fe's operating and passenger department personnel; they became two of the most famous trains in America. Ultimately they were combined into one train, though both names were retained. When Amtrak arrived it retained the 'Super Chief' name for a while before the train was renamed 'Southwest Chief'. Known as 'The Train of the Stars' because of the movie stars who often took this premier accomodation out of Los Angeles, the Super Chief name is still redolent with fame. The history of these two great trains is chronicled in word and picture in the 100 pages of this book by noted railroad author Patrick C Dorin."

    The book offers a high level recap of Super Chief and El Capitan facts and lore. The author's fondness for the subject is evident. There are many photographs, especially of the car interiors. All photographs are black and white. Note that very few will be new to readers that have read any other book on these trains or even the ATSF railroad in general

    Unfortunately, lack of content, pervasive bad grammar and typos make this a difficult read.

    Instead please look for a used copy of "Santa Fe Streamliners: The Chiefs and their Tribesmen" by Karl R. Zimmermann for an excellent book on the Chiefs, or a new copy of "Santa Fe Railway (Railroad Color History)" by Steve Glischinski for a great account of ATSF history.
