Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.
Provocative, appealing and controversial.......2006-08-02
Fomenko has succeeded to convincingly demonstrate the misconception about what "history" factually is... It is fiction and -like we can read and judge for ourselves- no science. It indeed is "make belief" only. I "discovered" Fomenko while studying the "old" history of Al Andaluz, Spain. Having found too many contradictions in available data, having seen too many forgeries as to pretend the importance of christianity for its decline, I ventured out to find Fomenko, who convinced me that we know little if anything for sure of the epoch before the XI-century. However, the integration of the Arabic-Islamic cultural history into the heavily distorted Western fails... There are some attempts to fit "the budding new religion" (Islam) into Fomenko's scheme, but they are too weak to be taken seriously and too often focussing on Turkey as the region where things started to influence the West, which is untrue at all.
Islam certainly was no "new religion" in the X-century. That the highly cultivated Al Andaluz ruler Mohammed-I could have been "mirrored" down in time into some myth about the "illiterate" founder of Islam itself is highly speculative. Nevertheless, Fomenko convinces me about the processes that were involved in forging a christian history. Intriguing and controversial as his books are, I recommend them as to rethink our current position in time and space and simply verify what was claimed. It is a "good" book, but not for bedtime reading... Mundus vult decipi, the world wants to be cheated. Fomenko's readers will understand why.
pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.......2006-02-16
Traces of white wine were found in Tutankhamen's tomb however there were no record of white wine in Egypt until the 3rd century AD, 1600 years after the young pharaoh died according to the traditional chronology. http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-human/mg18925395.400
It can be interpreted as a contribution towards New Chronology theory that pharaohs lived in the 3rd century AD.

Book Description
Thebes is almost certainly the largest archaeological site in Egypt, and in recent years the tombs of the city's ancient inhabitants have been studied more intensively than ever before. This collection of essays reflects the current state of research on many aspects of the site, from the monuments of the Middle Kingdom (c. 2000 BC) to the people who live in the area in the present day. Together they present many new insights into the topography and history of the necropolis and the function and development of the various objects placed in the tombs, as well as offering valuable indications of the direction which future work might take. The majority of the papers were originally presented at an international conference held at the British Museum in July 2000.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Book!!!.......2005-05-11
This volume was wonderful. The book represented a publication of several articles presented at an international conference on the Theban necropolis that took place at the British Museum, London in 2000. This book is not for those on the go. The articles were in no way light reading. However, anyone from Egyptologists to laymen could read and understand the articles. The various articles covered everything from the general to the specific, the ancient to the modern. The separate articles were written by different scholars and Egyptologists. They contained an almost complete history of the Theban Necropolis. Anyone with even the slightest interest in the Theban Necropolis would enjoy this volume. The articles ranged in focus from purely archaeological records to fascinating interpretive studies. The volume seemed to focus primarily on the tombs of the nobles and officials buried there and not so much on royal tombs. The tombs in Valley of the Kings did not appear often in this volume. The other areas in the necropolis, such as Dra Abu el-Naga, the Assasif, Sheikh Abdel Qurna, and Deir el Medina, were the main focus in most of the articles. Each article pertained to the development of Western Thebes as an archaeological site. The compilation of the various articles accurately captured the spirit of the site.

Book Description
This distinguished collection stands out from the recent flurry of books on health reform by its sustained and sophisticated analysis of the political dimension. In The Politics of Health Care Reform, some of America’s best-known political scientists, historians, and legal scholars make sense of our most turbulent policy issue. They dig below the jargon and minutiae to explore the enduring questions of American politics, government reform, and health care.
The Politics of Health Care Reform explains how successful reforms occur in the United States and shows what is unique about health care issues. Theoretically informed, politically astute, historically nuanced, this volume takes an inventory of our health policy infrastructure. Here is an account of the institutions, ideas, and interests that shape health policy in the 1990s: Congress, the federal courts, interest groups, state governments, the public bureaucracy, business (large and small), the insurance industry, the medical profession. The volume offers a fresh look at such critical matters as public opinion, the politics of race and gender, and the lessons we can draw from other nations.
The Politics of Health Care Reform is the definitive collection of political science essays about health care. Expanded from two special issues of the Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law, the most prominent scholarly journal in the field it helped create, this collection will enliven the present debate over health reform and instruct everyone who is concerned about the future of American health care.

The tenth anniversary of the collapse of communism in Central and Eastern Europe provides the starting point for this thought-provoking analysis. Between Past and Future reflects upon the past ten years and considers what lies ahead for the future. An international group of distinguished academics and public intellectuals, including former dissidents and active politicians, engage in a lively exchange on the antecedents, causes, contexts, meanings and legacies of the 1989 revolutions.
At a crossroads between past and future, the contributors to this seminal volume address all the crucial issues - liberal democracy and its enemies, modernity and discontent, economic reforms and their social impact, ethnicity, nationalism and religion, geopolitics, electoral systems and political power, European integration and the tragic demise of Yugoslavia.
Based on the results of recent research on the ideologies behind one of the most dramatic systematic transformations in world history, and including contributions from some of the world's leading experts, Between Past and Future is an essential reference book for scholars and students of all levels, policy-makers, journalists and the general reader interested in the past and future prospects of Central & Eastern Europe.
Customer Reviews:
Lessons of the First Post-Communist Decade.......2000-07-11
Ten years after the revolutions of 1989 and the unexpected collapse of communist regimes in East-Central Europe, a conference was held at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary from 26 to 29 March 1999. The conference brought together scholars and critical intellectuals from both East and West, all of them interested in the meanings and legacies of the 1989 revolutions. The book Between Past and Future: The Revolutions of 1989 and Their Aftermath, edited by Sorin Antohi and Vladimir Tismaneanu and published by Central European University Press resulted from the excellent papers presented at that conference which, it may be argued, was the conference dedicated to the revolutions of 1989 and the first decade that followed. The names of the authors present in the volume reveal not only the high level of the debates, but also the scholarly interest in the events that put an end to a divided Europe. The book is organized on four major sections/topics and a concluding chapter: (1) "Meanings of 1989: Present Significance of the Past," which contains studies and essays authored by Agnes Heller, Jacques Rupnik, Karol Soltan, Jeffrey C. Isaac, and Sorin Antohi; (2) "Winners and Losers in the Great Transformation," with contributions by Adam Michnik, Martin Palous, Valerie Bunce, and Vladimir Tismaneanu; (3) "Vulnerabilities of the New Democracies," with contributions by Katherine Verdery, Gail Kligman and Susan Gal, Kazimierz Z. Poznanski, Istvan Rev, Miklos Haraszti, and Ivan Vejvoda and (4) "The New Europe: Prospects for Cooperation and Conflict" with contributions by Karen Dawisha, Bartlomiej Kaminski, Ilya Prizel, Jeffrey N. Wasserstrom and Irena Grudzinska Gross. The final section, "Past, Present, Future," is a concluding essay by Timothy Garton Ash. Considering the relative high number of contributions to the volume, a comprehensive analysis of each study/essay cannot be made. However, it is important to stress that the variety of the arguments, ideas, and demonstrations provided by the contributors reveals the theoretical richness and originality of the scholarship focusing on the 1989 revolutions. Those interested in the collapse of communism and the 1989 revolutions will find different approaches to the 1989 events and the subsequent transitions to a real democracy. Unfortunately, there is not a unique, valid explanation for what happened in East-Central Europe in 1989. As Garton Ash rhetorically put it, "Ten years on, what do we know?" His answer, "we know more about the consequences" contains the elements that make of 1989 a fascinating object of research. Although we now know a great deal about 1989, those events are still mysterious and captivating. The contributors to the present volume have succeeded in convincing us that the fascination of 1989 remains intact.

The history and theory of fascism has been explored in a great number of studies, yet its foundations and essential characteristics remain largely undefined. One reason for this confusion is fascism's distracting ideological neighbors: totalitarianism, nationalism, anti-Semitism, racism, and imperialism. In Fascism: Past, Present, Future, Walter Laqueur--a prolific writer, journalist, and historian--directs his keen attention to the resurgence of fascist parties in Russia, Austria, and France, while pointing toward the Middle East as a potential seedbed of future fascist developments.
Laqueur's assessment benefits greatly from his historical and scholarly knowledge of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. He is at his best on this historical ground. As Laqueur ventures into prescriptive forecasting, the conceptual outline breaks down and he develops tangential discussions of arms proliferation and religious fundamentalism. While our knowledge of the past, present, and future dangers of fascism are greatly increased by Laqueur's book, it adds only incrementally to our understanding of fascism itself.
Book Description
Mussolini's march on Rome; Hitler's speeches before waves of goose-stepping storm troopers; the horrors of the Holocaust; burning crosses and neo-Nazi skinhead hooligans. Few words are as evocative, and even fewer ideologies as pernicious, as fascism. And yet, the world continues to witness the success of political parties in countries such as Italy, France, Austria, Russia, and elsewhere resembling in various ways historical fascism. Why, despite its past, are people still attracted to fascism? Will it ever again be a major political force in the world? Where in the world is it most likely to erupt next? In Fascism: Past, Present, and Future, renowned historian Walter Laqueur illuminates the fascist phenomenon, from the emergence of Hitler and Mussolini, to Vladimir Zhirinovsky and his cohorts, to fascism's not so distant future. Laqueur describes how fascism's early achievements--the rise of Germany and Italy as leading powers in Europe, a reputation for being concerned about the fate of common people, the creation of more leisure for workers--won many converts. But what successes early fascist parties can claim, Laqueur points out, are certainly overwhelmed by its disasters: Hitler may have built the Autobahnen, but he also launched the war that destroyed them. Nevertheless, despite the Axis defeat, fascism was not forgotten: Laqueur tellingly uncovers contemporary adaptations of fascist tactics and strategies in the French ultra-nationalist Le Pen, the rise of skinheads and right-wing extremism, and Holocaust denial. He shows how single issues--such as immigrants and, more remarkably, the environment--have proven fruitful rallying points for neo-fascist protest movements. But he also reveals that European fascism has failed to attract broad and sustained support. Indeed, while skinhead bands like the "Klansman" and magazines such as "Zyklon B" grab headlines, fascism bereft of military force and war is at most fascism on the defense, promising to save Europe from an invasion of foreigners without offering a concrete future. Laqueur warns, however, that an increase in "clerical" fascism--such as the confluence of fascism and radical, Islamic fundamentalism--may come to dominate in parts of the Middle East and North Africa. The reason has little to do with religion: "Underneath the 'Holy Rage' is frustration and old-fashioned class struggle." Fascism was always a movement of protest and discontent, and there is in the contemporary world a great reservoir of protest. Among the likely candidates, Laqueur singles out certain parts of Eastern Europe and the Third World. In carefully plotting fascism's past, present, and future, Walter Laqueur offers a riveting, if sometimes disturbing, account of one of the twentieth century's most baneful political ideas, in a book that is both a masterly survey of the roots, the ideas, and the practices of fascism and an assessment of its prospects in the contemporary world.

What's off the top of his head may go over yours.......2004-06-08
As others have noted, Laqueur's style compresses so much into less than 250 pp. of text that it left me a bit confused. He knows so much that he writes this book with very few footnotes or quotations. But what's off the top of his head may go over yours: that is, he often throws out surnames of titles of parties and refers to movements and events that, for newcomers, need more context than he provides in the text. Sometimes, explanations are given later, frequently not.
The best portions are in the introduction--which shows how indefinable fascism is, in the lack of a Manifesto or a "Fascintern"--although much later, on p. 90, he gives a "fascist minimum." Other bits are worthwhile--for me, the skinhead vs. fascist and far-right vs. fascism comparisons; the reminder that the term is overused and misunderstood by the Left; clerical fascism explained and its role in "political religion" in the misinterpretations known as radical Islam; why Soviets taught their people so little about the Nazis--too similar?; the megalomaniacal plans for world domination from Zhironovsky in early 90's Russia out of an Ian Fleming thriller or a Marvel Comics villain.
It taught me a lot, and as it anticipates the abuses of ideology across much of the world just before 9/11, remains relevant. Laqueur's study packs a lot into a few pages. It's just that he forgets that we all aren't as smart as he is. Probably better suited for those who know European politics already and want to delve deeper. It did show me that much of the threat in the West from the newer movements has been as overblown as perhaps that from the Middle East had been--at the time of writing in 1998--overlooked.
Comprehensive, but requires patience.......2003-06-12
Being a political science student, I found this book to be very comprehensive. It touched not only on the traditional (and perceived) aspects of what we generally define as fascism, but it also went to great lengths to differentiate between types of fascism and how different movements have evolved since the collapse of both Nazism and the Soviet Union. While it covers a considerable amount of material, this book must be read patiently - taking it in steps and sometimes re-reading certain passages because of the complexity of Mr. Laqueur's explanations. That having been said, if you want a good introduction to fascism as a political ideology or even to build on the knowledge that you may already have, this book is worthwhile.
Present and future fascism misunderstood.......2002-06-17
The author presents what appears to be a reasonably unbiased overview of the fascism of the 1920's and 30's, neither ignoring nor overstating its similarities with Communism. Unfortunately, although in his introduction he makes much of the inadequacy of labels like Right, Left and neo-fascist, when it comes to fascism present and future, he forgets his caveats, loses his objectivity, and labels as Extreme Right every element he wishes to consider a successor of fascism past; even though most nationalist groups today are defensive and conservative, only wishing to preserve their own cultures and way of life from the onslaught of globalism, a far cry from the crusading radicalism and totalitarianism of true fascism - as, to his credit, the author admits. His "liberal" and "democratic" bias is however all too obvious here; it blinds him to those present-day fascists who are on the political left or within the ranks of the "liberals" themselves. The new fascist threat, which the author fails to mention, comes not from the powerless "neo-fascists", but from the corporativist establishment that already holds the reins of power. Because they are not nationalist, in the old sense, it is easy to gloss over or obscure the fascist nature of their ideology; despite the author's protestations, fascism is not nationalism, and an international or global fascism is no less compatible with its core beliefs.
An unbiased masterpiece.......2000-03-07
The biggest advantage of this book is that it's unbiased. No relentless Democratic propaganda. It's well documented and tells you everything you'd ever want to know about Historical and Contemporary Fascism! Although at times it has wordings of an intellectual which can confuse some, it's still a brilliant book definitely worth buying!

Book Description
As Europe moves towards economic and political unification, many wonder why legal unification occurs so slowly. R.C. Van Caenegem considers the historical reasons behind this diversity, stressing the adoption of the classical law of the Romans and the influence of the rise of the nation states. The impact of politics on legal development is another key factor. The book concludes with a consideration of the ongoing debate on the desirability of European legal unification.

As Europe moves towards economic and political unification, many wonder why legal unification makes so little headway. In this concise but wide-ranging book, R. C. van Caenegem considers the historical reasons behind this legal diversity. He stresses the importance of the adoption on the Continent - but not in England - of the classical law of the Romans, and shows how the rise of the nation states led to a multitude of national codes of law. The impact of politics on legal development is another key factor, and as a graphic example van Caenegem provides a detailed account of how the German past was extolled in Nazi Germany. The book concludes with a consideration of the ongoing debate on the desirability - indeed, on the possibility - of European legal unification and of a federal constitution for a united Europe.

Myopic Worldview.......2001-01-12
I happen to think a great deal of good has been created by DWM (dead white males), and that they have much to say to us, despite the homogeneity of their ilk. But, these writers' prejudices about incidental matters (e.g., homosexuality) tend to throw the authors off subject into temperamental tangents of irritating, often infuriating, polemics. Indeed, this tendency among these so-called conservative illuminati make them seem borish, immature, and wildly inflammatory about all the wrong things. Rather than lead us to appreciate the "best" in human history, after the excellence of Matthew Arnold, they tend to approach the matter by eloquent straw man sophistry. It makes them appear collectively as myopic narcisists, whose only worldview is what they hate. I hate "jello," but what relevance does jello have with the excellence of a Berlioz composition? About as much as homosexuality has to the excellence of John Maynard Keynes' economics. Shooting the tree and getting lost in the forest is not a good sign for any critic; yet, nearly all are "victims" of this polemic. For individuals who despise victimhood, they fail to see their essays are filled with it; what they write often begets the very thing they profess to deplore. As articulate as these essays are, they are not very well-written. If looking to the past opens doors to the future, then reading Allen Tate, Isaiah Berlin, and Aldous Huxley are much better road maps to great ideas and fine literature, and much better critics than most of these amateurs.
"irritating".......1999-06-22
Now I have to read this work. Could it possibly be more "irritating" than the January fifth review?! We shall see. All in all, it sounds like the perfect antitode to today's unconscious and helpless relativism.
Brilliant and utterly compulsive reading.......1999-06-22
This is a brilliant and compulsive book, though in its dissection of our cultural malaise far more terrifying than any escapade by Hannibal Lecter. Read it if you care about the future of civilization.
very irritating.......1999-01-06
This collection of essays published in the New Criterion are not all bad. The late John Herrington saw signs of hope in reviving the classics. Ferdinand Mount takes a rather calm attitude to the problem of "dumbing down." But the rest of the essays show all the vices that make the New Criterion the intensely irritating journal that it is.
First off, there is the bullying, ostentatious anti-communism, as if the contributors were the only people in the world who recognized that Stalin was evil. David Pryce-Jones labels Stefan George a Nazi, where in fact he died in exile. He also dismisses Sartre and Brecht as Stalinist hacks, all in the name of liberal opposition to ideological judgments in literature. His essay ends in a hysterical comparison of the EEC to Vichy France. Anne Applebaum accuses unnamed scholars of saying Stalin killed only hundreds of people. Her own grasp of totalitarianism is not so good herself since she blurts out there is "no proof he [Hitler] knew about the Holocaust." Of course there is considerable proof; what is open to question is the existence of a specific written or verbal order starting the process.
Whatever one feels about the state of today's culture, one will be irritated about the shallow impressionism. John Gross and Mark Steyn complain popular songs no longer make historical or literary allusions. At the time they were writing their essays there was a number one hit in Britain called "Breakfeast at Tiffany's." And then there's Monty Python, Kate Bush, Sting, one could go on. Gross complains that pub names are becoming facetious, that shallower celebrities are being praised at Madame Tussaud's. The decline of the Anglican church, a phenomenon lasting centuries, is blamed on its new uninspired liturgy. Pryce-Jones, Gross, and Hilton Kramer wince or fume whenever anything nice is said about homosexuals.
Nor are is there much rigorous discussion of opposing arguments. Roger Kimball sneers at Jacques Derrida, while Keith Windschuttle reduces Fernand Braudel and the Annales to a shameful desire to escape the shame of Vichy. Hilton Kramer spends several pages attacking Sveltana Alpers for making a suggestion about homosexuality and ignores the rest of her work. For all the talk of the "European" past, the essayists belittle and ignore the rest of Europe, while defending Anglo-American elites from every slight.
Sanity vindicated.......1998-04-16
This is an elegantly written, totally absorbing antidote to much of the pretentious humbug that nowadays passes for profundity. I recommend it without reserve.
