Book Description

DJ Ritz Harper used every trick in the book to become a media darling in Drama Is Her Middle Name, shock-jock Wendy Williams’s exposé of a life she knows better than anyone. Playing a clever trick of her own, Williams left her heroine on the brink of death at the end of the novel. Now the second installment of the chronicles reveals what Williams’s readers are dying to know: Is the Bitch Dead, or What?

The drive-by shooting that brought her down forces Ritz to look back on her climb to the top and the people she loved, lost, used, and abused along the way. There’s the brief dalliance with Tracee, her best friend, and the romance with a man with some secrets of his own; the loss of her beloved Aunt M; and the recent appearance of the father who abandoned her and is now demanding a financial payoff and fifteen minutes of fame. At the heart of it all is Ritz’s need to figure out where the real-life Ritz ends and the radio bitch begins.

For the huge audience hooked on The Wendy Williams Experience and readers itching to find out what happens to the over-the-top star of Drama Is Her Middle Name, Is the Bitch Dead, or What? is packed with all the irresistible shocks and insider dish that make Williams the hottest voice in America today.

3 out of 5 stars Got time to waste?.......2007-06-11

I am a listener to "Miss Wendy" here in NY and when this book came out I didn't plan on buying it just because as an avid reader I couldn't picture her writing a novel. I still can't. It came to me automatically because of a book club I belong to so I read it. It's really juvenile. I mean the Ritz character is sooooo overdone and I felt like yelling out, "I get it! She's a B****!" I liked the Tracee character alot since she was the one who had some sense. I know Williams had help on this novel as she did with her bios and Ritz #1. All I can say is with two people working on this book, we should have got better. Like I said, if you have time to waste read this then give it away. You won't read it again. Williams really needs to stay in her lane.

If your a Wendy Williams fan, you will enjoy the book. It was a little slow getting into it, but once you get a few chapters in, it gets really good. I would recommend all of her books. Her books reflect her colorful commentary of her show! 107.5 NY NJ Connecticut 2-7pm, shes also syndicated in other cities.

A great book for breeders. Book is what it says... focuses on the care of your girl.

5 out of 5 stars Book of the Bitch - not Book of Pregnancy, Whelping, etc.......2006-04-24

This book is a bible for many serious dog breeders out there. When someone recently asked a group of people at a national dog show for recommendations on whelping books - we ALL had and suggested this one. With that being said, this is NOT a book about pregnancy and whelping ( although that is covered of course). This book is about the owning a bitch and all the things that go with it from purchasing the dog to medical problems to placing puppies. It is complete and detailed. I pull it off my shelf for any bitch concern for reference and it (and the kit that they suggest) has sat beside me with every litter I have ever whelped.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of work.......2001-10-11

Excellent reading; a must-have for beginners and useful to breeders too

    1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing........2001-05-02

I do not care for this book at all. I would expect a book devoted to bitches to have a bit more on pregnancy. I have read, many many books on dogs, dog genetics, breeding, showing etc and this one is on the bottom of my list. It came across as very generic to me. Also, as a serious dog fancier, exhibitor and fancier I didn't particularly like hearing the words income and market used when referring to dog breeding.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book for the first time breeder or female dog owner.......2000-07-31

Last year I bred my bitch for the first time. She is a very successful and valuable show bitch as well as a much loved family pet and I wanted to do EVERYTHING right for her sake.

I looked for information wherever I could find it and sought to buy a good book on whelping etc for the big event. I bought this book at a dog show and never looked back. It covers everything from buying a bitch puppy to her maturity, breeding and any associated health problems she may experience during her lifetime.

This book was my bible during this time and is now a little worse for wear after the experience. : ) It's been highlighted, flicked through - you name it. A friend of mine recently borrowed it for her litter - not her first... and she got as much out of it as I did as a first time breeder.

I'll be keeping this book for as long as I'm in dogs.... and if I sell any bitch puppies, I will give them a copy of this book as well. Every bitch owner should have a copy in my opinion. It's easy to read, goes through all you need to know without an overload of unecessary information. I'd heartily recommend it.

        Book Description

Despite more power and choices than ever before, women are still angry -- that's not necessarily a bad thing, as anger is what continues to open the door for change. In this collection, 15 women speak boldly and passionately about choices they've made -- about sex, children, love and work -- and explore what's working and what is not. Their essays -- always provocative, honest, witty and wise -- are the culmination of the lessons of the past two decades, the `me' years and the therapy years, the years that have taught women to express themselves and acknowledge their needs. As celebratory as they are critical, these brilliant essays reflect the truth about life.

Audio contains the following essays, written and read by the contributors:

        4 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2007-01-11

This audio book was pretty good; entertaining on a long drive. However, it would be boring to a man - just as an FYI and heads up (in case your hubby or boyfriend plans to be in the car). It has a very feministic slant on things, even for those authors who proclaim not to be such. Overall, I enjoyed the book and only wish the speakers had not sounded as if they were "reading" so much from the book, especially considering that they are the authors!

        5 out of 5 stars finally, honesty!.......2004-01-24

Incredible book: superbly written essays and... true and relevant! a lot of stories about why you're better off listening to your inner wisdom and needs, and how expectations can be hard to deal with.

        5 out of 5 stars A GREAT READ.......2003-11-23

I saw a review of the book in USA Today and was compelled by the title as well as the review. I was about to fly across country and wanted a book....I was so captivated by this book, before I landed upon my return, I had read the entire book..!!I might add, my trip was only over a weekend! You will be able to relate to many of the essays(chapters)in the book. If you finish the book on a Sunday, going to work on Monday is a whole lot brighter...GET THIS BOOK..it's also a great gift.

Controversial and award-winning British author Melvin Burgess (Smack, Bloodtide, etc.) is in fine form in his brilliant, satirical novel about a hedonistic teenage girl who is turned into a dog by a mysteriously magical town drunk. Sandra (a.k.a. Lady) is dismayed at first, but quickly discovers the pure joys of unfettered freedom to do whatever she wants and have sex with whomever she pleases--a seemingly perfect scenario for a devil-may-care young woman who would "have shagged [Wayne] up against the wall for a bag of jelly beans a month ago."

Hooking up with a couple other humans-turned-dogs, Lady roams the streets and, well, does what doggies do: "One thing about dogs--they know how to greet someone. It's not so much scratch and sniff as sniff and lick--as soon as you see someone, you just gotta know what they taste like!" Her new life is not without inner turmoil, however. Part of her longs to return to her human life, annoying family, standardized school testing, boy-of-the-day "romances," and all. Living as a dog helps her study what it means to live as a human--with the responsibilities, silly inhibitions, stress, and worry that mark that species--but also the flip side: the security and love of her family.

Ultimately the decisions Sandra/Lady makes may be shocking, but Burgess's voice is undeniably, ruthlessly authentic. Readers in search of a traditionally moralistic diatribe against the reckless promiscuity of today's youth will need to look elsewhere. But those seeking a funny, sensual, and honest exploration of real teenage life and a much more intense and complex study of humanity will revel in the author's expertly crafted allegory. As Burgess himself says, "even someone who doesn't know what an allegory is will recognize that Lady is not a piece of advice, or a suggestion on how to govern your life; it's simply a way of trying to make people think about the ways in which we define work and play." Highly recommended. (Ages 14 and older) --Emilie Coulter

        Book Description

If you gotta be a dog, be a bitch.

"Ha ha ha," I howled. "That was so funny. Your face. Ow ow ow!"

"That'll teach you." He shook himself from head to toe and grinned at me. "It was worth it, baby," he growled, He came over and licked me up, and i licked him back. He was some gorgeous, lovely dog.

5 out of 5 stars An other great novel from Burgess.......2007-05-05

Once again Melvin Burgess captures my imagination. This was really great read. I couldnt put it down. The ending is totally not what I expected but expect from Burgess. I think the lesson with this novel is to live your life the way you want it.

2 out of 5 stars Could have been so much better..........2006-10-25

The concept behind this book is great, but it was a dry and boring read. Instead of exploring many different things a dog might think or experience, the author just revisited a couple of different ideas over and over again.

        5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2005-01-08

This book is NOT for young teens! Very snappy read, very hip and really, really funny. Bittersweet story with the right ending- not sentimental, not moralistic, just plain fun. I read it straight through.

        A bargain.

3 out of 5 stars Wow not what I thought.......2004-11-16

Lady My Life as a Bitch by Melvin Burgess dealt with many teenage issues such as teenage love, independence from family, and behavior. The title refers to a girl named Sandra who becomes a dog named Lady. Sandra wants to be independent and is almost in control of her risqué life. One day while out with her current boyfriend, Sandra encounters a homeless alcoholic. When she accidentally knocks over his beer, the alcoholic changes her into a dog, which is what she deserves according to some, the way she lives her life.

Frightened and not sure what has happened Lady as she is mow called runs to her house where her mom screams, calls the police, and tries to shoo her out of the house. When Lady sees herself in a mirror she truly realizes what has happened to her. That night in a shack she meets two dogs, Mitch and Fella who were also turned into dogs by the neighborhood drunk. They explain the situation in between sniffing. They also explain how great being a dog can be the pleasures of running all night and chasing cats.

Although being a dog is great Sandra does miss her family and goes one day to see them. With her dog memory she can only just remember them. Sandra carefully sneaks into her old room and puts some of her old clothes on and creeps downstairs. What will her parents think? Will they believe their beloved daughter presumed missing or dead is alive in the body of a dog? Will she ever be herself again? Read this to book to find out.

        1 out of 5 stars Stupid.......2004-11-05

I had read many exciting reviews and great comments about this book and was looking forward to reading it. I ended up being very disappointed. At certain times the novel was so exaggerated , girl turning into dog, girl going to her house and her family somehow recognizing it was their daughter...as a dog, a dog walking down the stairs with a skirt & lipstick. It seemed as if the writer was trying too hard to make this story funny. It's also very pointless and stupid and the ending is completely unexpected. Throughtout the book I had to reassure myself that this wasn't a childen's book but when I came upon the sexual parts I got my answer. I thought it was a big waste of time and a completely pointless storyline.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book.......2005-02-06

This book is so stupid. You wanna talk about locker room talk, well you could probably learn more in a locker room. As soon as I read the whole book (Took about 20 minutes because it's so small) I instantly threw it away. This guy is a jackass, if you buy this book I guarantee you will be disappointed. It doesn't tell you anything a normal human being doesn't already know. Basically all it says it hit on every chick you see using terrible lines that will not work. Don't waste your money. This book shouldn't even be on the market. Terrible.

1 out of 5 stars I would like to "Bitch Slap" the Author.......2005-02-03

I have read numerous books on picking up women and this one is by far the worst. At 104 pages it can only touch on subjects in a superficial manner. There is nothing about dating in it. It is about picking up and sleeping with women. If you are comfortable with lying to women to get some "Action" then you already know everything in this book.

5 out of 5 stars Its an honest approach........2004-05-21

          Book Description

Naughty Bits, the longest-running solo comic by a female alternative cartoonist, came to an end in 2004 after a 14-year, 40-issue run. Beloved for the expressive scrawl of Gregory's line and her take-no-prisoners satirical approach, it was particularly notable for introducing the world to Bitchy Bitch—a woman who is eternally, magnificently, and for the most part, quite justifiably pissed off at the world around her!

This extra-thick, very reasonably priced volume collects the entire first half of the Bitchy Bitch saga, and it ranges widely in her eventful life. There are stories about Bitchy's travails as a little girl (when she was just "Bitsy Bitch"), including that greatest horror of all, the holidays; a long sequence about her hippie free-love days in the '70s (and the harrowing abortion that followed); tales of her miserable days as an office drone surrounded by dunces, lechers, and the occasional ultra-Christian maniac; and the hilarious full-length graphic novel "Bitchy Takes a Vacation," where a tropical getaway turns into a fiasco (romanic and otherwise) of epic proportions.

The book will also feature a brand new full-length story that chronicles the (never before shown) death of Bitchy's tempestuous father (well, she had to get that temper from somewhere), as Gregory once again finds the humor in even the grimmest situation.

If anger is an energy, as Johnny Rotten once said, then Life's a Bitch is a 240-page slab of caffeinated fury... but laugh-out-loud funny!

          1 out of 5 stars Bitched Out.......2005-12-24

Simplistic, trite, degrading to all who have struggled with this issue. To call it comedy is to call Schindler's List comedy. Rent the movie it is a higher seller than this tragedy of penmanship and 10th grade art.

          5 out of 5 stars A comic book masterpiece.......2005-08-06

Roberta Gregory's masterful (and angry, and often supremely profound) Bitchy Bitch stories have somehow been a bit overlooked compared to the level of acclaim thrown at work by Art Spiegelman, Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Will Eisner and other comic book masters. But make no mistake, Gregory is one of the very best comic book writers out there, and Bitchy Bitch is her magnum opus. There's simply no excuse not to buy this new cost-effective edition of Gregory's work.
