Book Description
This is the first sock knitting book devoted to teaching the simple mysteries of two-circular-needle-sock-knitting, a vastly more efficient and easier method which is rapidly gaining converts. Eleven original designs, clearly worded instructions, photographs, charts, a section on translating traditional patterns to the two-circular method, and abundant tips and tricks have been put together with great care and a generous sprinkling of humor. The author answers all of those subtle, almost unframeable questions a new sock knitter has, as well as delighting seasoned sock knitters with innovative sock architecture and techniques.
Customer Reviews:
Not worth it.......2007-05-30
I was very disappointed on the content of this book compared to the cost. There are better sock knitting books for one-half the cost that have multiple sock sizes, great graphics, colored photos and easy to read charts and instructions. The publisher should have allowed us to see inside the book - something missing on so many knitting books on this site! The 2 needle technique is very interesting but not worth the price of the book. Check it out at your local library.
Love it, but.......2007-05-28
This book woud rate 5 stars if only there were a couple more pictures showing how to use two circulars. I had to look at my copy of "Sensational Knitted Socks" (which credits the method to Cat Bordhi) to see how to do it. Now that I have it figured out (and it is really simple) I just love this method and use it a lot. This book is worth buying for the patterns alone - especially the Leaf and Tendril Socks and the Two Alert Cats. Cat's writing style makes the book worth having, also. I read that she is coming out with a new book of two circular patterns, and I do hope that it includes better pictures.
Easy and quick to use.......2007-05-21
This is a book that explians things that anyone can understand and it makes making socks fun, easy and quick. Using two circular needles instead of four double pointed needles takes the stress out of worrying about losing yours stitches when not knitting.
Cool Idea.......2007-05-07
I felt the book (actually a booklet) was a little general, but fairly clear on the process. I was able to complete a pair of socks rather quickly, though reverted to dpns for the heel flap. If you really hate dpns this gives you a great alternative--her suggestion to invest in addi-turbo needles is priceless, they rock!
LOVED IT!!!!!.......2007-05-07
I love this method of sock knitting. I didn't have a problem with traditional DPN's, but this is so much faster and I love the jpatterns! There is also info on translating traditional patterns to this method-very helpful. I have fewer "ladders" and dropped stitches, too!

Book Description
With her latest book, A Treasury of Magical Knitting, Cat Bordhi introduces knitters of all levels to the warm welcome of a simple and mysterious dimension of knitting. Here you will find thirty-three projects, including scarves with one side and one edge, knitted in one fell swoop, like the Fringed Cedar Bark Scarf or the Mercurial Moebius Wraps. . . graceful headwear, like the Beaded Tresses Hat. . . felted footwear both practical and functional, like Sophie's Mermaid Feet . . . the Lost Trail Cape with its four-way convertible collar . . . and the Seven Socklings Necklace.
Cat, who is known for her clear and comprehensive instructions both as a workshop teacher and as the author of the best-selling Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles, has taken outdone herself in this full-color, 112 page coffee table quality book. Instructions for the simple technique are illustrated with close-up photos showing every move, almost like a slow motion movie, accompanied by clear descriptions so that learners of all kinds will find it easy to get started.
This author of novels (Treasure Forest, first of The Forest Inside trilogy, recently won the Nautilus Award for Young Adult Fiction) and knitting books blends the art of fine story-telling with instruction. In her own words:
"Following the unfolding path of a novel is astonishingly similar to following the unfurling flow of a knitting book. Both ask me to simply show up, keyboard or needles in hand, all my senses alert and willing to welcome what wants to meet me. Sometimes I think that it is because I am tame, and so the beautiful creations that populate both novels and knitting books come nibble the grass near my feet. I do not invent any of it. I simply get to be where it is, experiencing it fully so I can share it with you. And if you recognize it, if it sparks something in you, it is because it lives in you too."

Knitting out of "the box".......2007-03-19
Cat's book will have you thinking about knitting in an entirely different way than you've ever thought of it before! You'll certainly find something in here to nudge your creativity and be thinking of doing many new things with your needles and yarn. The book is a special memory for me after having a mobius workshop with her. She shares both her personality as well as her love of the craft of knitting in the book. It is a treasury you will treasure because of the clear instructions and explanations.
Mobius magic.......2007-03-15
If you are looking for something new in your knitting projects - buy this book. I am addicted to knitting mobious objects after reading this book. The cast-on method is a bit tricky but just follow her clearly written directions and you can do it. I love the projects in this book and the photgraphs that demostrate them. It helps to catch Cat Bordhi on The Knitty Gritty show if you want some extra help figuring this out.
not satisfied with the instructions.......2007-01-12
I have been a knitter for over 40 years and am adept at reading patterns. This particular book was written assuming people had taken her class. If you haven't the insturctions are skimpy at best. I was very disappointed. I tried to email her at her email from the book and received no response.
Quick get my needles!.......2007-01-06
This book is luscious. From the pictures to descriptions and easy to follow instructions. You will want to knit at least one of everthing. I am eagerly waiting her Treasury of Magical Knitting ll.
One Trick Pony.......2006-12-15
The author is overly enthusiastic about the techniques she "invents" or more accurately "publishes." Her marketing is what I'd call magical as the infamous moebius cast on is nothing more than a provisional cast with a twist at the end.

Book Description
Readers of the first book in this two-volume series (A Treasury of Magical Knitting) have fallen in love with the new world of Magical Knitting, a dimension so simple yet so captivating that one could spend a year exploring the huge variety of designs which Cat offers. Beginning with Cat's unique Moebius Cast-On, which is so easy that she usually demonstrates it in workshops behind her back while twirling slowly around on one foot, the reader first learns to knit a Moebius band, or scarf. This is the magic key that opens the way to all the other designs. The Second Treasury includes felted baskets (with no inside or outside!), felted fringed bowls, felted and unfelted sling bags, six different felted cat beds (one with paws and a tail!), and the trifold designs, including a knitter's bowl with pockets for tools and a place to keep working yarn away from playful felines. The Felted Needle Cozies, colorful, highly textured sheaths to hold straight needles, and the felted wallets are both excellent patterns for beginners and first-time felters. The book includes detailed information on felting, designing, and yarn substitutions.
Customer Reviews:
Not as great as I thought it would be.......2007-02-14
I bought the "Treasury of Magical Knitting" and this book. One would have been enough.
emperor's new clothes.......2007-02-09
I paid nearly $30 for this book and wish I'd spent it on something more worthwhile. The Moebius cast-on is nothing more than a provisional cast-on done on a looped circular needle. While the introductory project, a Moebius scarf, drapes nicely, it's hardly worth a $30 book just for the casting-on method. The rest of the designs are unattractive. I couldn't care less if the strap on a bag is twisted. Ny cats would undoubtedly turn up their noses at a knitted bed (no matter how many hours I'd spent on it). And unless I'm missing something in the photos, anything felted won't show whether it's been knit by the moebius cast on or simply begun as a strip conventionally cast on and off, given a half-twist and joined at the ends, and the long side's stitches picked up again. I think we have something of a boondoggle here.
Mobius rocks.......2007-01-07
I am a new knitter. After taking a class on the Mobius method, and getting into Cat Bordhi's fun and quirky head, it will be very boring for me to pick-up any of my other started projects. I have this and the first book, and was able to create many quick christmas presents that were a hit. Cat has found many ways that have simplified so many of the knitting methods, I am now able to transfer her methods to other knitting book patterns that I was afraid to try. I highly recommend trying these 2 books, you won't believe how how fun and strange it is, and knitting will never be the same for you.
Interesting, but a bit tedious.......2006-12-19
The good: Very interesting method, and although she may not have developed it she has certainly been very creative with it. Lovely clear pictures of most of the projects.
The bad: She is way too enamoured with the sound of her own voice, and most of the technique explanations would have been better if they were more concise. Also, I definitely feel that the bag section was way too large for as little variation as there was- all followed an almost identical formula, which I thought ended up being a bit shapeless and homely.
The ugly: The anemone/jester hat/bag thing. Who would spend the time and yarn on that? Also, the knitter's bowl scares me, and I don't think it's very functional as pictured.
the mobius continues.......2006-11-10
A great continuation of this fascinating mathmatical knitting meathod. Also an introduction to the joys of felting your knitting. The baskets & bowls are just lovely. can't wait to get going...

Customer Reviews:
I love quilts. I love cats. But this is a coffee table quilting design book........2006-02-13
I'm sure that you have a few cookbooks in your collection that you enjoy, but for some reason you never do get around to cooking from them. Maybe the ingredients are hard to get, or you have a simpler recipe in another cookbook. There's nothing wrong with those cookbooks; they're fun, pretty, inspirational. It's just a reading-cookbook rather than a regular instruction book.
To my surprise, that's how I feel about Cat's Meow: Purr-fect Quilts for Cat Lovers. As a devoted cat person, and an enthusiastic (if not anywhere near expert) quilter, I had hoped to find several quilts that would let me indulge in more than one of my passions. However, every time I flip through the pages of this book... well, I end up cooking something else for dinner, so to speak.
I'm not completely sure why; perhaps it's because the designs expect you to use a lot of scraps (I'm not a scrap quilter), or they're just an eensy bit too cutesy. It might also be that, to my mild surprise, none of the designs are suited to use all the kitty fabrics that I've been collecting. Probably, the main reason that I haven't felt compelled to use any of these designs is that the instructions aren't completely clear; it doesn't give me a sense of confidence that this will come together sensibly.
I don't dislike the book; it deserves its 4 stars, and I've no intention of giving it away. On the other hand, I'm not worrying that I'll wear out the book's binding.
great ideas.......2005-09-05
Clear instructions and great ideas. I used the idea of matching cats and spools, but changed it to dogs and bones.
Great book for quilters who love cats!.......2002-11-19
This book is SO CUTE! Even if you don't make a quilt from it, it makes you feel good just looking through it. The colors are happy and the patterns aren't hard. Good instructions and designs and inspiration from Janet Kime! It's one of my top five favorite quilt books--I love it!
cats, cats, cats.......2000-12-19
this is the best book for the cat lover. I even found a pattern inside for dogs. My mother and I worked on these projects together. we have created numerous pillows, and wall hangings useing this book.
A book for Cat loving Quilters.......2000-06-07
As both a cat lover and a quilter, I had to buy this book. I made "The Motley Crew" quilt and liked it very much, and even made another for a friend. It's a well written and illustrated book offering many different cat quilts for anyone's taste. Spend the money and buy it---you'll enjoy it!

Can you say "challenging"?.......2007-02-16
A lovely assortment of patterns. Daunting for a beginner like me, but sure to engage someone for many, many, many pleasant hours. These are big, complex patterns with good directions and colors plainly listed/described. A good reference.
Cats of the World in Cross Stitch.......2006-08-03
I have other books by Jayne Netley Mayhew and Nicki Wheeler and I like every one of them. So far this is my favorite and I like how some of the designs can be used for needlepoint as well as cross stitch. It has designs with jungle cats as well as domestic cats and it is very hard to pick a favorite. Both ladies work very well with each other. I'm looking forward to their new book this month and want to collect all the books they will make in the future.
From beloved house pets to fierce lions and tigers.......2003-10-14
Cats Of The World In Cross Stitch is the wonderfully collaborative effort of needlecraft experts Jayne Netley Mayhew and Nick Wheeler who offer the reader more than 30 "easy-to-follow" cross-stitch designs featuring cats of all kinds, ranging from beloved house pets to fierce lions and tigers. Gorgeous full-color illustrations and diagrams bring life to the detailed instructions for making the creation of beautiful projects easy and fun for needlecrafting cat lovers everywhere. The fun and informative asides offer tidbits of fascinating information about magnificent felines of all shapes and sizes, making Cats Of The World In Cross Stitch a most engaging and confidently recommended cross-stitch pattern collection.
Lovely sensitive and delicate!.......2002-03-12
This beauty and cute book is the best for catlover!Stunning photos, easy to read colour charts, a lot of informations also regarding the cats...and wonder projects to stitch!I can't wait to stitch all this beauty pussycats!
Gorgeous designs.......2000-08-05
This book has so many absolutely fabulous designs, it is a joy just to look at. They are almost all rather large and/or ambitious, but I have completed projects from earlier books by the same authors, so I know they turn out to be worth the effort. This book is an absolute must if you like cats (domestic or wild) and cross-stitch! I deduct half a point from the rating because the symbols for the three-quarter cross-stitches are not as clear as they are in, for instance 'Animals in Cross Stich', and another half a point for the colour charts which were much clearer when all the colours were numbered. Now the symbols, and especially the lack of symbols can make determining which colour goes where a little more difficult. Also, it is available only in hardback. Hardback may be more durable, but it makes using the book less practical. But overall a great buy!

Re: "What do you love".......2006-03-08
This is a wonderful book...a must have!
Re: "What do you love": There is nothing wrong with breeding beutiful purebred cats or dogs... If people raised and loved each OTHER right there would be no need for shelters. If children are taught from a young age to love and respect each other then compassion for ALL living things will naturally follow. I believe good, honest breeders are the perfect example of that! They take on great responsibility with endless love, devotion and compassion.
still valid after all these years. some things don't change.......2006-02-26
This is a well done book. A new version with color photos would be a bit more helpful, but for someone considering breeding it's a must, and even for a more seasoned breeder it's a good brush up. I take it out every time I have a litter. As an aside, the between chapter "cat/people" jokes make it an ejoyable read. Some of the references are a little outdated, but the material is not; some things don't change that much. Breeding cats is one of those, highly recommend.
Simply the Best.......2004-01-24
There is a reason that people are willing to pay $150+ for the collectible book that is out of print. Luckily my fiance and I won it at a local cat show that had a raffle. We had no idea it was worth so much at the time, but devoured it and thought it was excellent.
This book is nearly a complete resource for all breeders, if I could choose only one cat book to keep this would be the one.
It is well written, thought-out, and VERY informative. Any question you have about breeding is answered here. It is simply the best cat breeding book I have ever read.
Unbeatable.......1999-11-10
I have been breeding pedigreed cats for 22 years. This is the best book on the subject I have ever read. I wish I had this book when I began. A MUST for cat breeders.
THIS THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL. IT WAS VERY HELPFUL!!.......1998-07-09
THIS BOOK ANSWERED SO MANY QUESTIONS THAT I HAD, AND MANY MORE QUESTIONS THAN I HAD NOT THOUGHT OF. IT WAS EASY TO READ, AND PACKED WITH INFO FOR THE NOVICE, AS WELL AS FOR THE EXPERIENCED BREEDER. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE INTERESTED IN RAISING CATS.

Calling all cat lovers! Prolific needlework designer Julie Hasler combines two of her favorite obsessions to produce a gallery of gorgeous needlepoint patterns depicting cats of many breeds in all their glory. Tabbies, Persians, Siamese, Angoras, and Oriental shorthairs cavort over cushions, door stops, wall hangings, bell pulls, greeting cards, trinket boxes, place mats--even a rug and a Christmas stocking. The beautiful full-color charts and accompanying photos capture the many moods of the feline persuasion at play and at rest, with well-chosen backgrounds to set off their colors, markings, and personalities. All the designs are worked in basic tent stitch, though the high level of detail necessitates some degree of needlework experience. All the grace and charm that makes cats so endearing shines through these striking designs. --Amy Handy
Book Description
A delightful collection of more than 35 needlepoint designs for all cat lovers. A range of breeds, from the everyday tabby to the exotic siamese, are captured in this selection of endearing designs that show the beauty, grace and movement of one of our favourite pets. Projects range from cushions and footstools to bell pulls, pictures and box lids - a cat peering from every corner of the home. Smaller items, such as place mats, coasters and greetings cards allow smaller items to be stitched quickly. All the designs use simple tent stitch over a range of canvas sizes, and all the instructions are given for completing the projects, from easy-to-follow stitch diagrams to advice on preparing and caring for fabric, and making up instructions. Clear, symbol on colour charts throughout make this a must-have for all cat lovers.

Cat Lovers' Needlepoint.......2005-09-20
If you have at least intermediate needlepointing experience, you won't have any problems. However, beginners beware! The instructions for working the tent stitch on page 11 are appallingly incorrect. That aside, the charts are easy to read with a combination of color and symbols. Most of the backgrounds are repeats and would be easy to substitute for each other. The cats themselves are beautiful. Recommended for experienced needleworkers.
a must have for the cat lover who needlepoints.......1999-04-09
Julie Hasler has captured the heart of the cat lover. When I look at needlepoint books the first thing I look for is a design of a cat, and to think here is a book with no cutesy cats. Each design reminds one of some cat one has known. The only problem is deciding which to make first. Keep doing more books, Julie Hasler!
Wonderful Designs for Cat Lovers everywhere.......1998-08-24
A range of cat designs with a difference. Each cat has character and the backgrounds are superb. If you are a cat lover you will love it although you may be like me and find it hard to decide which one to create first.

Feline-iciously Charming!.......2004-06-26
Sheila has done it again! This time she has designed a yearful of cats, each with earsful of seasonal cheer. Uh, I'd better explain. Sheila has designed twelve cats, one for each month, each having month-appropriate hats on his ears. For example:
April's cat has umbrellas in her ears and is named "Don't Rain on My Purrade" and June's kitty is entitled "Will Mew Marry Me?" with a top hat on one ear and a wedding dress on the other.
Who has a great sense of humor?
Instructions are given for making finished quilt blocks for each month, plus other great crafts projects.
What fun!

expired paints.......2007-05-17
The included paints were expired for over 1 year and only had a few colors (not the colors needed for all the faces). I can't comment on their quality. The instructions for the 10 cat faces were fine.
Fantasic book!.......2007-05-15
I had done face painting before, but this book really improved my technique. It is very nicely organized and easy to follow, and the kids love the faces! The paints that come with the book are not so good, so I would advise buying additional paints and colors at a craft or hobby store.
cool cats.......2007-05-15
This book is great for anyone doing face painting. The book has great pictures, and makes it easy to paint cool cats, and kids love it.
Fantastic!!.......2006-10-11
This is by far the best face painting set I have found to date. It comes with 4 water based paints and the book has the most amazing faces that are SO easy to do. I have sat outside and painted the nieghborhood kids with this and everyone thinks I am an artist! I would give it 10 stars if I could. Makes a great gift too, for kids 8 and up.
