5 out of 5 stars Makes too much sense!.......2007-06-26

This book explains in simple terms that what we have been taught by our parents and the government is completely wrong when it comes to planning for your retirement. I recommend everyone read this book, the concepts are simple and make more sense than investing in the stock market where you can lose money and paying off your house simply makes the banks rich.

5 out of 5 stars Comprehensive but very readable.......2007-06-24

This book is the simpliest to understand treatise on how to use leverage to build wealth that is currently published. I have read most of them and found Ms. Snow's examples clear and to the point. Are these concepts for everyone. No, I don't think they are. But they are for everyone to consider. If you care about planning your financial future you would be cheating yourself if you don't consider these ideas.

5 out of 5 stars True Sense of Security Now - A No Brainer.......2007-06-23

Reading this book was a real eye opener...had to read it twice to make sure I was really seeing and believing what I was reading. Now after implementing the plan, I can truely say I have a "true sense of security knowing I can now look at my future social security checks as a bonus and not as a means of survival". Great illustrations. This book is a must read especially for baby-boomers wondering how they are going to make it in retirement.

5 out of 5 stars Every Home Owner Should Read.......2007-06-23

If you own a home you owe it to yourself to read this book. It has changed the way I think about the equity in my home. I now realize how much money I was losing by not separating the equity from my home. I've given copies to many of my business associates and have reccommended it to others. The book is easy to read and the concepts are very easy to understand. There is no reason for anyone to view their finances through the "Glasses of the Masses," everyone can now have "Real Wealth Vision."

5 out of 5 stars Investing in Duplexes, Triplexes and Quads.......2007-06-27

This book is well written. It is an easy read and gives you the how to steps. If you are a first time real estate investor I highly recommend this book by Mr. Loftis. He brings years of experience and practicale knowledge to the game. With this book I was able to launch myself into the real estate investor game with all the fundamental knowledge necessary to be successful. I will be closing on my first quad in July/2007.

5 out of 5 stars Very well written and informative.......2007-06-07

I was so pleasantly surprised when I read this book. I could not put it down and finished it on a short plane ride. The book is very honestly written to include mistakes made and learned from. There were actual scenarios that the author went through and a lot of information that is worth its weight in gold. I have been disappointed in the past with books that don't deliver. This one is a keeper.

3 out of 5 stars I was expecting much more.......2007-06-04

I was disappointed in this book. I read the author's book on tax liens, which I thought was very good, and was expecting more. Maybe I should reread the tax lien book and reevaluate it.

While I've sold hundreds of properties of all stripes, my knowledge of investing in 1-4 families is minimal and I wanted to learn more. The author believes that quad-plexes are the best real estate investment and gives his reasons. The author believes in the buy and hold approach. He downplays the work involved in property management. I'm a believer that investors make their own best property manager, however most investors have neither the time or interest in managing their own properties. It's best if you are retired or otherwise don't have a day job.

The subject book was written with the unsophisticated read in mind yet is pretty detailed. I suspect that he loses a lot of unsophisticated investors. That said I did learn a little, but would read several more books on investing in 1-4 families before actually doing it.

The book has some value and you should read it along with many others if you are interested in investing in 1-4 families, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.

5 out of 5 stars Motivation.......2007-05-31

This book is a good read, whether or not some of his things he has done will work every time or work for you. It does give a good oversite on real estate investing is all about. His basic idea is great, and it really inspires to get something started. Since i've read this book I have almost have a 5 plex in my pocket. Listen to this book and listen well.

5 out of 5 stars Real estate investing that everyone can understand........2007-05-21

Friends, I was concerned (somewhat :-) when I saw the Esq. after the author's name. I was expecting that the writing would be a little hard to understand (read too complex). But my fears were unfounded. Larry Loftis has written a book on a complex subject but has written it so that anyone can understand.

This book is logically divided into four parts:
1. To begin, Larry builds the case for real estate investment.
2. In the middle, he covers both the buying and the holding and selling processes.
3. To end, Larry summarizes and reiterates everything previously covered but shapes it into a comprehensive wealth-building plan which can be modified for each reader's specific circumstances.

The book focuses on multi-family residential properties but seems to me a good part of the logic translates to most any real estate property.

I don't think Larry set out to write a motivational book on real estate investing as much as an informational one; but, he so thoroughly lays out the "whats" and "what fors" that this reader got excited about the possibilities. Read this book and I dare you not to get excited too!

Book Description

From THE ENEMY AT HOME:

“In this book I make a claim that will seem startling at the outset. The cultural left in this country is responsible for causing 9/11. … In faulting the cultural left, I am not making the absurd accusation that this group blew up the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. I am saying that the cultural left and its allies in Congress, the media, Hollywood, the nonprofit sector, and the universities are the primary cause of the volcano of anger toward America that is erupting from the Islamic world. The Muslims who carried out the 9/11 attacks were the product of this visceral rage—some of it based on legitimate concerns, some of it based on wrongful prejudice, but all of it fueled and encouraged by the cultural left. Thus without the cultural left, 9/11 would not have happened.

“I realize that this is a strong charge, one that no one has made before. But it is a neglected aspect of the 9/11 debate, and it is critical to understanding the current controversy over the ‘war against terrorism.’ … I intend to show that the left has actively fostered the intense hatred of America that has led to numerous attacks such as 9/11. If I am right, then no war against terrorism can be effectively fought using the left-wing premises that are now accepted doctrine among mainstream liberals and Democrats.”

Whenever Muslims charge that the war on terror is really a war against Islam, Americans hasten to assure them they are wrong.  Yet as Dinesh D’Souza argues in this powerful and timely polemic, there really is a war against Islam.  Only this war is not being waged by Christian conservatives bent on a moral crusade to impose democracy abroad but by the American cultural left, which for years has been vigorously exporting its domestic war against religion and traditional morality to the rest of the world.

D’Souza contends that the cultural left is responsible for 9/11 in two ways: by fostering a decadent and depraved American culture that angers and repulses other societies—especially traditional and religious ones— and by promoting, at home and abroad, an anti-American attitude that blames America for all the problems of the world.

Islamic anti-Americanism is not merely a reaction to U.S. foreign policy but is also rooted in a revulsion against what Muslims perceive to be the atheism and moral depravity of American popular culture.  Muslims and other traditional people around the world allege that secular American values are being imposed on their societies and that these values undermine religious belief, weaken the traditional family, and corrupt the innocence of children. But it is not “America” that is doing this to them, it is the American cultural left. What traditional societies consider repulsive and immoral, the cultural left considers progressive and liberating.

Taking issue with those on the right who speak of a “clash of civilizations,” D’Souza argues that the war on terror is really a war for the hearts and minds of traditional Muslims—and traditional peoples everywhere.  The only way to win the struggle with radical Islam is to convince traditional Muslims that America is on their side.

We are accustomed to thinking of the war on terror and the culture war as two distinct and separate struggles. D’Souza shows that they are really one and the same.  Conservatives must recognize that the left is now allied with the Islamic radicals in a combined effort to defeat Bush’s war on terror. A whole new strategy is therefore needed to fight both wars.   “In order to defeat the Islamic radicals abroad,” D’Souza writes, “we must defeat the enemy at home.”

1 out of 5 stars Pathetic apologist.......2007-06-27

Dinesh D'Souza's leap in logic would clear the Grand Canyon!

Let me summarise Dinesh D'Souza's pathetic attempt at writing. Its the LEFT (whoever they are) that caused 9/11. It is the LEFT that causes islamic terrorism.

Of course it has nothing to do with the islamic terrorists themselves. Oh no.

And of course Bush is completely innocent. He was hamstrung by the left being in control of..... well not the Congress, Senate or Supreme Court...

As you can see - great analysis in this book. Wait until it hits 0.01c and then use it for toilet paper

5 out of 5 stars Get Thee Behind Me Hillary.......2007-06-21

There is no doubt that Islamic terrorists wish America harm. There is also no doubt that there is a myriad of possible causes for that animus. But there is plenty of doubt about which segment of Islamic society is actively involved in that terror and there is equal doubt about which segment of American society has acted in such a way--either directly or indirectly--to bring about that animus. In THE ENEMY AT HOME, Dinesh D'Souza posits the novel idea that the cultural left has deliberately chosen to side with Osama Bin Laden by ruthlessly calculating the harm that Bin Laden has wrought against the harm that George Bush will wreak against the left's own plans for a continuation of the secular progressive tidal wave that now has thoroughly immersed our society. The conclusion, D'Souza reaches, is that the latter is a far greater danger to that tidal wave that the left sees as an inevitable flowing of tolerance and diversity.

Such an interpretation is bound to anger the left in that the entire range of leftist thought--abortion on demand, Hollywood immorality, and a totally secularized society--stands revealed as the true cause of 9/11. But wait, the left shouts (and D'Souza plays devil's advocate) what about the more traditional reasons bandied about nightly by the major media? Abu Ghraib, torture and detention of Islamic prisoners, America's close ties to Israel. For each of these, D'Souza analyzes their relevance and dismisses them as no more than red herrings that the left insists are the only causes. Far more convincing is D'Souza's contention that Bush is seen as a crusader but not in the historical sense of cross-carrying Christians expelling Moslems from Jerusalem in the 12th century. Rather, he grants that even then, the historical crusaders never were even the slightest threat to eradicate Islam from Europe. But in the excesses of the cultural left, their insistence on forcing its cultural values on a resistant Moslem world, Osama Bin Laden and by extension much of the Islamic world might truly envision that if these leftist excesses were to take permanent root, then the very existence of Islam is directly threatened.

So what can we do to avoid another 9/11? For starters, D'Souza insists that conservatives must publicize the alliance between the left and the terrorists. Further, he suggests that by distancing the right from the cultural excesses of the left that mainstream Islam will cease lumping all Americans into a common stew. Thus, the enemy over there cannot be defeated until the enemy over here is first defeated. Several Amazon.Com reviewers have raised the legitimate question first broached by the left in its insistence that 9/11 is a direct result of cowboy diplomacy by a blood for oil Bush. Yet, such objections could have been raised by those wishing to criticize presidents Carter and Clinton, both of whom dealt with Islam in such a way as to suggest that America was a toothless tiger. THE ENEMY AT HOME is a workable thesis that can stem the tide of a seemingly endless surge of suicide bombers but to do so requires the left to engage in some painful soul searching. And that is not likely to happen, thus D'Souza's plan for the right to act unilaterally to protect this country from itself.

2 out of 5 stars Interesting theories, but poorly researched........2007-06-21

One of D'souza's most often touted theories is that Carter's failure to back the Shah led to Khomeinei's rise to power. This may be true in a manner of speaking, but it takes a very short term view of Iranian history. The West has for intervened when it has seen fit for a long time in Iran. Britain prevented construction of a transnational railroad until it saw fit in the late 19th century, and the Allies briefly occupied Iran during WWII. (perhaps more justifiable given the circumstances) Most heinous was the joint CIA-MI6 1953 'Operation Ajax' which ousted the democratically elected government of Iran because of oil concerns. It should have come as a surprise to now one when the Iranians finally kicked him, and us, out. I hardly think Carter can be blamed for withdrawing support for a such a dictator, though he could perhaps have handled the situation with more care and finesse.
D'Souza takes the short view of history, and uses only the facts supporting his premise.

1 out of 5 stars Conservative hypocrisy.......2007-05-18

Here is the conservative strategy at its best: support the economic and social model that in fact undermines the family (namely: corporate greed, uncontrolled neo-capitalism, unmerciful careerism and competition, aggressive global campaign against welfare), and then lament that loss, and blame those that just wrote or talked against family values. The enemy at home are Mr. D'Souza and his fellow Republicans.

3 out of 5 stars he forgot my sisters.......2007-05-14

great concept and possible truth about 9/11, but D'souza forgot to mention the unspeakable lives of middle eastern women, no pun intended, and the education for boys only.......still makes for an illiterate country.....it was a mans point of view...and how appropo, a middle eastern man wrote it i didnt even finish it b/c even at the mid point of the book.....still no mention of women or education for girls....

Book Description

Hansen takes readers deep into the world of child predators to show what we can do to protect ourselves and our families.

Police sergeant Rick Woody thought he was doing everything in his power to protect his thirteen-year-old daughter, Kacie, on and off line.

He kept the computer in the living room facing out, he sometimes checked her chats and e-mails, and he made sure Kacie knew not to give out her address or any other personal information. But neither Kacie nor Rick knew that her "seventeen-year-old" friend Dave from California was actually a forty-nine-year-old child predator until it was too late.

Such victims inspired Dateline to create the "To Catch a Predator" series that investigates online predators. Now, correspondent Chris Hansen shares the many stories of the victims who have motivated him to speak out.

These are stories of parents, children, wives, and families, who have had their lives shattered by child predators. Their accounts expose the twisted psychology and workings of men who prey on children and teens, how they manipulate their victims and their loved ones, and the way they've destroyed children, families, and communities. Hansen also explores effective punishment and treatments to stamp out the crime.

We live in a new online world where the time-tested rules of parenting no longer sufficiently protect children. See the real dangers facing teenagers today and learn what you can do to keep them safe.

To Catch a Predator takes you beyond the broadcast into a shadowy world that every parent needs to understand. Inside the pages you will find:

* What motivates child predators and how they choose their prey.
* An in-depth look at child victims and what made them targets.
* What happens to families who suddenly discover they are living with a child predator.
* What detectives, therapists and child predators feel are the best deterrents and treatments to prevent this crime.
* What parents must do to protect their kids online, what sites to block, and what software to get.
* And, most important, how parents can talk to children about on-line safety WITHOUT scaring them.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Every parents should read this book!.......2007-06-05

This book is written by the host of the popular NBC Dateline series, To Catch a Predator. If you are a parent, you should read this book.

5 out of 5 stars Read this Book..........2007-06-03

if you have children and a computer.

More than just a rundown of the TO CATCH A PREDATOR Dateline NBC series (although it does do that), this book also contains heartbreaking stories of children who have been exploited -- and in some cases murdered -- by predators they met on the Internet.

Chris Hansen does a great job of illustrating the fact that the computer and the Internet, as a whole, are useful tools that even younger children can take advantage of. But his tips and hints for protecting your children from online predators are something that EVERY parent needs to read -- and then share with their kids.

While I tried to avoid scaring my two children (ages 10 and 6), I have sat them down and discussed the dangers that can be found on the Internet. Just as predators in real life don't always look like what they are, I think my kids now understand that people they could meet online aren't necessarily who they claim to be, either.

I highly recommend all parents, especially those of teens and pre-teens, who have a computer pick up a copy of TO CATCH A PREDATOR. You'll be amazed, frightened, and instilled with a sense of urgency when it comes to the protection of your kids.

4 out of 5 stars Catch a Predator.......2007-05-10

I enjoyed the book, it expands on the television series and gives some insight into protecting your children. It is a great tool for anyone that has children and gives some great tips on using the internet and also what to look for if you have a child that uses the internet.

5 out of 5 stars What you don't know CAN hurt you - and your child!.......2007-05-07

This book is mandatory reading if you have children! Chris Hanson shows you how much you don't know about just how dedicated and unrelenting child predators are in persuing your children on the internet. While this is a subject about which many are squeamish, it is information every parent MUST have.
I thought I was pretty savvy about child predators and their tactics, but was floored by the patience and long-term investment of time used to gradually lure children into their reach in case after case. Please don't put off reading this book if you have kids.

5 out of 5 stars Goes beyond the telivision edition.......2007-05-07

To Catch a predator written by Chris Hansen is a breath of freash air. Chris deals with a unpleasant subject in a dignified way. It goes way beyond the information we learned as Chris Hansen the television reporter on Dateline NBC'S "TO CATCH A PREDATOR" Series. Chris goes into detail how to protect your kids from online enemies already in your home.

The book version deals with What motivates child predators and how they choose their prey. Chris takes a in-depth look at child victims and what made them targets. The book answers the questions of what happens to families who suddenly discover they are living with a child predator.

The most important thing the book touches on is how parents can talk to their children about online safety without scaring them. If the TV show left you desiring more this book will answer those unanswered question in detail that only Chris Hansen has the ability to do.

Well worth the small investment to help you and your children why you may become a target and how to prevent either of you from becomming a victim. I highly recommend this book to anyone whose lives Chris Hansen has touched with his very important series on child predators.

Book Description

Imagine this. You buy a home, live in it, then buy another. You build your wealth through real estate—and then retire rich. It may sound too good to be true. But it’s not. It has happened, it’s happening now and it will continue to happen for millions of people over the next few decades. The question is, will it happen for you?

If you want the answer to be “yes,” then stop what you are doing and open this book. Read a few pages. Bach’s simple strategies make you rich where you sleep. All you have to do is follow his easy program to go from renter to owner, and from owner to Automatic Millionaire Homeowner. The rest is automatic!

What’s the secret to becoming a millionaire in real estate?

Since the runaway success of David Bach’s #1 New York Times bestseller The Automatic Millionaire, people all over the world have asked David the same question—is it really possible for me to get rich in real estate?

Now, in The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner, David Bach reveals why buying a home and investment properties is not only possible, it is the surest way to reach your seven-figures dreams on an ordinary income.

The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner starts with the powerful story of an average American couple with a modest income who stretch to buy their first house for $30,000 and retire 35 years later owning a home on a golf course and rental properties worth over three million dollars. Through their story you will learn the surprising fact that even if you have cheap rent you can’t get rich renting! You must first own a home, and make it the foundation on which you build your financial security.

What Makes The Automatic Millionaire Homeowner Essential:

You don’t need a big down payment to buy a home.
You don’t need great credit.
You should buy even if you have credit card debt.
You can buy a second home even if you’re still paying off the first.
You can get started in any market–boom or bust.
It’s easier to be a landlord than you think.

Whether you are a renter or already own a home, David Bach gives you a lifelong strategy for real estate based on timeless wisdom that is tried and true. He includes everything you need to know, with step-by-step instructions, including phone numbers and websites so you can get started right away. His road map to ownership is easy to follow and, best of all, it makes the process totally automatic.

As long as you’re alive, you have to live somewhere. Why not let where you live make you rich? David Bach will show you how.

5 out of 5 stars Great New First Home Buyer Advice!.......2007-05-14

I bought the book not knowing what to expect , however it had so many good tips that are relevant to buying a home for the first time. It also extends great advice about real estate as an investment. I recommend it to anyone looking for good sound, structured advice about investing in a home.

5 out of 5 stars What better way to help.......2007-05-01

David Bach couldn't be more right on with the "Automatic" part of his book. I am a real estate agent and for years when someone bought a house from me I would give them a fruit basket or gift card. Now I send them something of great value. I send them this book and only this book. They look a little strange at me at first but after they've read it they become excited and can't wait to begin their journey to be millionaires as homeowners and I got to be a part of it. The return to them will be great. The return to me will be great too.

5 out of 5 stars Renters:Read this book.......2007-04-12

This book is a 5 star book if you are looking for a book to inspire you to be a first time home owner. 80% of this book explains the entire process of how to become a homeowner, it would have been very helpful to me before I bought my first home 16 years ago. He explains mortgages and how they work, what kind of real estate agent to use and what to look for in making your choices. 20% of this book explains why it is important financially to own your own home. For example: Homes rise in value on average 6% a year. So if your home is valued at $100,000 it will grow in value by $6,000 a year. This can add up quickly in equity and will turn out to be one of the greatest investments you have ever made. David Bach believes that home ownership is essential to becoming an automatic millionaire. This book briefly discusses how wealthy you can become by keeping your homes as rental properties as you trade up to larger homes. This book is not about "flipping" properties it is about owning them for the long term. I would highly recommend a beginner in real estate or personal finance to read this book it will be very useful, however this is not for current home owners or real estate investors. I will be giving this book as a gift to my children when they turn 18. Owning a home is essential to financial success, even though I am uncomfortable with Mr. Bach's advice to leverage debt for multiple houses. My first starter home made me $40,000 in 10 years when I sold it.

1 out of 5 stars Want to lose your home and your savings? Buy this book........2007-04-11

Shame on David Bach for releasing this book at the very peak of the housing bubble. (Actually, he released it about 9 months past the peak.) With this book David Bach is giving people advice that would normally be good advice, but because of his poor timing it may actually get people into financial trouble. Get the original "Automatic Millionaire" instead.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad, but spend your "latte factor" money on something else.......2007-03-27

This isn't a bad book, the advice is mostly sound and it did make me think about investment real estate (I already own my home). However, it's not a particularly deep book, either. I read the whole thing on a 1-hour commute. Granted, I skimmed much of the stuff about mortgages as that was already very familiar to me, but it's still a very quick read.

I found one piece of advice downright dubious- the suggestion that you enroll in a biweekly payment plan to pay down your mortgage faster is only good advice if the interest rate on your mortgage is higher than you'd likely get elsewhere. For most conventional mortgages, this isn't so. Otherwise, you're far better off keeping your low-interest mortgage and investing the money you would have spent paying it off early in an index fund. And, you could even set up such an account with an automatic monthly deposit. Just add the yearly fees for a biweekly plan to one payment on your mortgage, divide by 12, and have that amount automatically invested each month. If you have a conventional 30-year mortgage, you'll be far ahead with this approach.

That criticism aside, the basic approach of the book is good. It's geared towards long-term thinking instead of getting rich quick. I know that the "Latte Factor" is rehashed from a previous book, but it is extremely sound advice. My wife and I did this exercise on our own long before I'd ever heard of David Bach and it has paid off handsomely for us.

If this book inspires you to purchase a home instead of renting, it's worth every penny. But, why don't you save your pennies and get it from the library? In my opinion, there's too little meat in it to justify purchasing it.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST TRAINING KIT........2007-03-20

People interested in buying this book must know it is out of date. It was released in the age of Windows Server 2003, without service pack one. So it does not cover WSUS, but SUS. It also does not contain information about SP1 improvements and now SP2, however, it is a book about planning and implementing security strategies, which makes it a book above the time.
If you have money and are interest in security, or if you are intended to pass the exam, buy this book.
The text is clear and comprehensive. The content is pretty amazing which demonstrates de knowledgement of the author about what he writes. Such knowledgement is provenient from his experience working with Windows in exposed environments.
This is not only a theoretical guide of security, but also a practical one. The excercises hep you to understand and record it in your mind.
Finally, buy this book.

5 out of 5 stars A must..........2006-08-21

I haven't read this yet. I'm still going through the XP book, but if this one is even close, this book is a must. An easy read and well laid out. The accompanying CDs are very beneficial also.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent guide.......2006-02-14

Any book from Tony is probably going to be good. This book is no exception. It is very well written and organized. It covers all aspects of Windows Server 2003 security. It is not quite comprehensive as you'll need the earlier 2003 Server books (or know those topics well enough) to fully cover the test. It includes good chapter summaries and practice labs. This book will also be useful to you as a reference after you have passed the exam.

5 out of 5 stars Best study guide I've read yet.......2005-08-10

This book is an excellent resource and preparation for the 70-299 exam. I've read through a lot of exam books over the years and this is the one that prepared me the best. Upon finishing this book, you feel as though you really understand the material, rather than feeling that you still have holes in your understanding, as you often do with other books. This book is comprehensive, well-laid out, and has a lot of good practice questions in the book and on CD. Microsoft Training Kit CDs are often quite meaty, and this is no exception. I highly recommend this book.

3 out of 5 stars Did I read the same book as these other reviewers?.......2005-07-13

This book offers good coverage in some areas and fairly weak coverage in others. I agree with some of the other reviewers that this book should have been marketed as a study guide and not a training kit. It does contain some good to know nuggets of info, however it is far from being a complete guide on security, or preperation for the exam. I bought the book based on the reviews I read on this site and will be returning it. I can only guess that the previous reviewers work for MS Press.

On the 13th page of this book the author mentions how important the steps of kerberos authentication are, after giving an incorrect explanation of them and telling you to memorize them for the exam. (steps 1-3 are incorrect. check pg.245 of the Active Directory Technical Reference for an accurate description) Like most of the self-paced training kits from MS Press there is a certain lack of depth to the information in this book. There is alot of pertinent security information missing from this book both for the exam, and more importantly for securing a network in real life. The book seemed more like a conglomeration of useful facts for the exam than a "training guide".

A much better book in this arena is "Microsoft Windows Server 2003 PKI and Certificate Security" by Brian Komar with the Microsoft PKI Team -MS Press

I would also recommend the Windows Server 2003 Active Directory technical Reference. -MS Press

The two of these books combined will give you a complete and accurate base of information to pass this exam, and several others.

1 out of 5 stars do not buy this book.......2007-05-07

I bought three CCS review guides to prepare for the CCS exam. This one was NO help whatsoever. I had been studying with my other two books (AHIMA's and Thompson's) and picked this one up the weekend before the test. I liked that it had CCS-like exams to take on a CD. I was studying with a friend of mine so we both decided to take the pre-test. This was the day before we took the exam. I scored -103, yes negative 103 and she scored 30, meaning we both flunked. We were so discouraged. so threw that book aside and called it a day. The CD and the book gave us no hint as to what we did wrong with the test, what we needed to study further. No help whatsoever.
We both took the CCS the next day and passed with flying colors. If we had let this book discourage us we would not now be both CCS certified.

If I could give it no stars I would

MAKE MONEY IN SHORT-SALE FORECLOSURES

Foreclosures are the most profitable way to invest in real estate. But most real estate books on foreclosures don't tell you how to invest in short-sale foreclosures—properties with even more profit potential than regular foreclosures. A short-sale foreclosure is a lender accepting a loan payoff for less than the amount owed. This comprehensive new guide from renowned real estate authors Chantal and Bill Carey covers all the ins and outs of short-sale foreclosure investing, from finding properties to negotiating with lenders, to closing the deal and making a bundle. Inside you'll find all the information you need to succeed:

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Slightly helpful - Maybe.......2007-01-27

The book has a couple good points, and is probably benefical to a novice pre-foreclosure investor, but is not worth the time or money of any pre-foreclosure investor thats ever closed a deal before. Most of the examples in the book 'window dressed' profits on deals by not listing all expenses involved.

4 out of 5 stars Solid information.......2007-01-16

I found this book pretty good.... It definitely spelled out all the details of short sales.... I think for property investors trying to understand exactly what is involved with short sale purchases this book is perfect. The book was written at a level that I enjoyed....not overly complicated.

1 out of 5 stars Review.......2006-08-13

I was extemely disappointed in this book. In the title ........How to Bypass Owners and Buy Directly from Lenders....Yet on page 93 you learn that this is NOT possible as you must have the owners permission prior to ever contacting their lender. I found the title misleading as to the content.

5 out of 5 stars One of my top three real estate investing books.......2006-05-21

This book will help you accurately determine the market value of a property. Looking back, I can take Bill and Chantal's way to determine this and realize my mistakes. There were times I had properties in my hand but was too low on my market value comps. Also what I learned from this book was when to know it is a property for a short sale (less than 15% equity) and when it is not. Did you know that 95% of investors out there, according to Bill and Chantal, will walk away and not bother with short sales? This book outlines the steps to follow the process of negotiating a short sale and have it come out in your favor. Very good read!!! It is hot off the press.

5 out of 5 stars Best Security+ book.......2007-06-05

This book became my primary reference for studying for the Security+ certification. It is superior to the other two Security+ books I used in studying. There were a few errors (for ex. you really can't demodulate WiFi with a PC sound card) which I submitted to the publisher - I'm still waiting any form of acknowledgement. The included test question programs on CD were very useful - particularly the Palm flashcards. Bottom line I comfortably passed the exam, but I'd recommend augmenting your study with secondary resources to ensure relevant points are driven home. I would recommend this book for aspiring Security+ professionals.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Study Guide from Sybex.......2007-05-15

This is my second Sybex guide (first was a iNet+ book from Sybex) and one of the things that impresses me with these books is how I've noticed the questions more closely match the questions on the final CompTIA test more than any other study books I've read! Even more so than PrepLogic Practice exams (which is somewhat disappointing considering what they cost...) This book in particular is a very good read and includes a CD with hundreds of additional testing questions on it. There are mini-tests at the end of every chapter as well as a fairly detailed glossary.

4 out of 5 stars Very good and well worth the read........2007-05-14

I thought this book was very well written. I found it usefull in reevaluating the security of our own network. Although this book is not the end all be all of network/computer security, I feel that if covers the field pretty good. Anyone who is looking to work in network security would find this book a good place to start. And then get your hands dirty in the field. There is no other substitute.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Place to Start.......2007-05-12

I used this book along with books with from Syngress (Security + Study Guide and DVD Training System), McGraw-Hill (Security+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide), and Que ((The Ultimate Security+ Certification Exam Cram 2 Study Kit (Exam SYO-101) (Exam Cram 2)) and passed the exam with a score of 780. The bottom line is that the more practice questions you are exposed to, the better off you are going to be.
