Pan-fried Shrimp with Green Curry Cashew Sauce

Serves 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total time: 15 minutes

You can purchase bottled Thai green curry sauce in most supermarkets, but this recipe proves how quick and easy it is to make your own. Refrigerate any leftover sauce, covered, for up to 3 days.

1 slice (1/4 inch thick) peeled fresh ginger
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons roasted unsalted cashews
1/3 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1/4 cup packed cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon curry powder
Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper
1 1/2 pounds peeled and deveined large shrimp
2 tablespoons olive oil

1 In a food processor, pulse the ginger until finely chopped. Add the 3/4 cup cashews; process until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes.
2 Add the yogurt, cilantro, sugar, and curry powder; season with salt. Process until incorporated, 1 to 2 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed. Transfer to a serving bowl; sprinkle with the remaining cashews.
3 Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add half the shrimp; cook until opaque throughout, 2 to 3 minutes. Repeat with the remaining tablespoon oil and remaining shrimp. Serve the shrimp with the sauce.

Love that it has pictures for every recipe, separated by season, and gives you a large indication of prep times so you can make your cooking decisions easily.

As the joke goes, Martha Stewart is the perfect example of how to live graciously...with a staff of 50 and a budget of $7 million a year. Seriously, the woman (or the media empire she owns and represents) has an uncanny knack for taking simple, straightforward aspects of living - especially entertaining - and making them needlessly difficult and off-putting in the name of some weird fantasy of "style" that no one actually likes or wants...except that it's "Martha Stewart", "so it must be good, right? Right???"

But "entertaining" isn't the same thing as "cooking and eating". Once I overcame my bias against MS and realized this was indeed a cookbook for stuff to make for yourself and your family - and that her food staff probably actually created these recipes, not the woman herself - I opened it for a quick scan at my local bookstore. And I was impressed by this book. I eventually overcame my reluctance to add to the MSL coffers and bought it because it was remarkably well done for a very reasonable price - it was just too good not to have in my collection.

One great strength of this book is the format: organizing by seasons is a great help for someone like me who still doesn't have a good sense of when various kinds of produce and farm goods are available. In my mind, this make it a stronger entry than its closest cookbook counterpart, the "Real Simple" collection "Meals Made Simple". I've rated them both "4 stars", but this collection is more useful (and has more recipes for the same price) and should actually be more of a "4.5 star" rating.

I didn't give it the full 5 stars because there is actually very little that is new or original here; you've seen variations of all these dishes here in Food Network volumes, "Fine Cooking" and "Cook's Illustrated", celebrity chef and restaurant books, etc. And the editorial style is relentlessly bland and anonymous - I like cookbooks that feel as if a person is addressing you, not an institution (unless it's Martha, of course!) Also,this isn't really "everyday food" unless you are an enthusiastic foodie or amateur chef. A lot of these recipes aren't "kid friendly" or kind to the limited budget.

But still,these are really good, really reliable recipes that will serve you well if you want something good and workable and you've got a hour or two to get dinner on the table. It would make a great gift for someone looking to punch up their standard array of American comfort food, too.

Martha, you still suck. But you've obviously got some talented and dedicated food writers and cooks working for you.

I am a collector of cookbooks and have Martha's Baking one as well as some others. At a glance without having tried the receipes, I was slightly disappointed. I definitely will give it time to prove me wrong since I have not had time to actually prepare one of the many from which to choose. I like the Everyday Food PBS show that airs weekly and was hoping these receipes would be a reflection of that show.

I might be the world's pickiest eater. There is a group of core foods that I like, and the rest I pretty much actively dislike. However, because I am nursing my son and he has, apparently, a sensitive stomach, I've had to cut out dairy, soy, caffeine, etc. This has eliminated most of my staple foods, and forced me to start looking for a new cookbook for some new ideas.

When I first saw this cookbook (my sister gave it to my mom for Mother's Day), I thought the food looked ridiculously fancy for everyday eating. I may be a stay-at-home mom, but with an infant, I would never have time to get that detailed. Upon closer inspection, however, I have concluded that a lot of the fanciness is simply due to the presentation in the pictures (presentation I would probably not trouble with). [Side note; pictures are GORGEOUS.]

I started marking pages with recipes I thought I would copy before leaving my mom's house--rarely do I find more than 3 or 4 recipes in a cookbook that I think I would actually try. In this case, I had marked so many recipes after just flipping through the "Spring" section, I decided to just buy my own copy here on Amazon.

Finally, the organization is really interesting. Although I know I will not follow the seasonal guidelines, it is fun to think about foods that are appealing in summer v. winter, and my friends who are more into cooking assure me that is a valuable inspirational feature of the cookbook.

I cannot give it 5 stars because I reserve that rating for something that really blows me away. However, I really do highly recommend this book to anyone looking to try some new recipes--if _I_ found recipes that appeal, I cannot imagine anyone else could fail to do so!

I was so pleased when I got this cook book. I read it when I got it and it really inspired me. I wanted to start cooking. The recipes are quick, convenient and the full page pictures show you how to garnish it or present it. What I especially liked was the the recipes I have made have all turned out wonderful. We recently had guests who were here for about 2 weeks and I had to come up with meals for them. We were very busy each day so I needed recipes that you would present to guests, were quick to make and tasted great. This book really helped me out in my meal planning.

I also subscrile to Everyday Food and have all my back issues on the book shelf. The recipes in there are consistently wonderful and very easy to prepare.

I've never lived in clutter. I'm insanely organized. But after reading this book (which I now carry around in CD form -- it keeps me aware), I discovered how hanging onto even the most neatly packaged valuable old stuff was affecting me psychologically.

For instance, I used to work in L.A. theatre, and I had a rack of bagged and tagged costumes I "just couldn't get rid of." They took up enormous space and weren't doing me a bit of good. I didn't even take photos of them, as some people do. I simply gave them to a local theatre. And all the memories, good and bad, went with the costumes.

I've let go of dozens of boxes of "favorite" books (they're up for sale used here at Amazon). With Peter's helpful advice, I've been able to let go of so many "valuables" I just can't explain what a relief it is.

Whether your house is in clutter or your life is in clutter, this book will change your life. (No, I'm not exaggerating.) I'm[..]and have been reading self-help material all my life. Peter's book is right up there with gems like "Lost In The Cosmos" and "Life 101."

Buy this! You'll be doing yourself a favor!

The author has great suggestions for decluttering and insight as to why Americans buy so much and how to curb the acquiring bug. Even if you don't think you have too much, he can help you really simplify your life by getting rid of what you don't use or love!

If you like listening to audio books on your MP3 player or iPod, you might want to reconsider buying this book on CD. As far as I know, publishers are under no obligation to tell you that their CDs are copy protected, meaning you can't copy them even for your own personal use or use them in your MP3 player/iPod. You won't find out until you have been separated from your hard earned cash. So it's BUYER BEWARE!

For some reason, this audio book doesn't seem to like my computer which is two months old and has loaded hundreds of other CDs on my iPod successfully. I suspect that copy protection could be the issue. If I am wrong about the copy protection in this edition, I welcome someone to please correct me.

If you buy "It's All Too Much" on CD, be aware that you might be limited to listening in your car or while you are sitting in front of your boombox. Forget listening while walking in the park or doing the yardwork.

My one star rating applies strictly to the CD version of this book due to the fact that I am feeling more than a little "ripped off". If publishers want to copy protect their audio books that's fine, but the consumer should be told so they can make an informed buying decision.

Maybe the book version is great..... The other reviewers seem to like it. I just hope this helps anyone else who likes audio books and is thinking about buying this too.

A total waste of my money.

The format of the cookbook was confusing and frustrating--organized according to the season of the year, which may seem like a nice idea, but unrealistic. Trying to find something nice to cook for the evening's meal meant searching thru each season and then searching the dinners-only for that season. Finally, there just weren't many recipes offered.

I wish I could have returned the book, but then I'd have to pay shipping again and it just wasn't worth the time & effort.

The recipes in this book are indeed delicious and easy and I feel better when I eat the RealAge way. In fact, since eating this way I have more energy and my arthritis seems better. I only really have time to cook on weekends and one night a week but thankfully my husband helps on the other days. I just wish I had more time to cook but when I do I turn to this book as a guide! I made the Mandarin Chicken recipe from this book. It was Delicious! It was easy to make. It only took about 20 minutes to make it. The thing that took the longest was cooking the chicken. I will definitely make it again. It meets all my criteria for a recipe - Quick, easy and nutritious.

I would have to disagree with Karen K who said the voice and music were irratating. I found the narrators' voice to be extremely soothing and the music to be beneficial and relaxing. In fact, for all the hypnosis tapes I've ever used, this is by far the most relaxing. I'm able to go into an extremely deep trance and always come out with the suggestion at the end (that's how I know I didn't just fall asleep). I only gave it 4 stars so far, but will update it in a couple of weeks when I see how well it works. I've been using it twice a day for two days, today is the third, and haven't seen any changes in my appetite or eating yet. It says to use it for 21 days. I don't know if that means you'll only see significant results after 21 days, or what, but I'll keep this review updated to let you know if I've lost any weight. If not, then at least I have had some incredibly relaxing sessions while I'm listening to the tape.

Day Five: I found when I went to the market I chose only healthy foods and stayed away from the junk food without even thinking about it. I checked the fat content on all food even if it said "light" or "low fat." When I saw chocolate and thought I'd like some it was immediately followed up with the thought that I didn't want to buy it. The hardest part is getting out of the store without the junk in the cart. At home, I've noticed I have not wanted to eat between meals.

After having so much success with Trevor's cd "Your Power Within" I had to try "Relax Your Way to Thin." I've lost 17 pounds so far and it is fantastic! I've never wanted to say I'm on a "diet" and I didn't really want to change my eating habits. But, after listening to the cd, my whole attitude about food and healty eating habits started changing. It made me realize that I wasn't denying myself anything by eating healthier, I was actually giving myself more. The weight started coming off, I'm feeling great and I'm sleeping soundly. Awesome CD, I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to loose weight.

I had gone to a Hypnotherapist before to lose weight and did not have much luck. However, I decided to try Trevor's method...and it works!! My eating habits changed dramatically after only listening to the cd twice. It is the most relaxing experience I have ever had. This cd allows you to fall asleep, so I listen to it while I am going to bed. It says that even if you do fall asleep your sibconcious will receive the messages that Trevor sends, without a doubt, it does! I am really amazed by this cd! I am getting ready to order his cd's for exercise and to quit smoking.

If you need to have almost all the ideas for ways YOU can reduce your ecological damage of your lifestyle all in one easy to read place -- or know someone who you think is open to being greener but unaware of all the big and little changes one can fairly easily make, this might be a book for you.
If you've been paying attention to ecological, green, and sustainability issues for years there's not much point in this book. All the info in it is widely available on the 'net and other sources free.

What a great little book! It's chock full of information and even created out of recycled paper! As someone who wants to "go green," but doesn't want a lot of long explanations and hard to understand terms, this book was perfect for me!

The author starts out by crushing the "green living myths," which is helpful, because I'm constantly explaining to others that it's not as hard as you think!

There are hundreds of tips with 3 boxes by each one so you can check of what you want to work on, or number your success with it. The tips range from the ones I was already familiar with (such as buying organic, or letting fruit sit in a bowl of cold water rather than letting the water run) to those I wasn't familiar with (take used motor oil to your local service station for recycling. Motor oil never wears out; it can be recycled, re-refined, and used again and again).

The author really did her homework because there are not only many ways to "get involved" in the back of the book, but lots of "green shopping" pages as well!

I hope to find more books like this!

The cover of this book intrigued me. What made me take it home was that upon glancing through it, I found that it wasn't a breathy manifesto but rather a compilation of tips.

This book is a really quick read and offers a lot of great advice on how you can help the planet... but one thing this book points out is that by helping the planet, you can save a lot of money.

After reading through this book, I have to come to the conclusion that changing the way I live to help the earth wouldn't be as hard as I thought. The author wasn't critical but instead she was encouraging.

I would definitely recommend this book to others who are seeking to make simple changes in their daily lives to help the environment.

Ms. Trask's book was my first book about how to live green. I've wanted to learn more but have always felt overwhelmed by the information in other books.

This book is easy to read and to understand. Ms. Trask does not preach to you and she is not radical. The book is fun to read and has a great section of checklists: she lists pages of green ideas and you can check off what you are interested in working on. I really enjoy this book and plan to buy copies for my friends.

I just bought this book and made my first batch today. It was so easy and tasted really good. I know that jarred baby carrots don't taste nearly as good as the batch I just whipped up for 79 cents in less than half an hour. The recipes for older babies look so good too. I used this cookbook every week. Great receipes--easy to make and very yummy. The receipes are made from normal food that adults also like so it is easy to go from making food just for baby to creating something for all. Sometimes my husband and I have eaten some of my daughters food or just added salt and shared. All the kids at my daughter's daycare swarm around her food at lunch-time. Can't recommend this author and her books enough.

This book was very disappointing for me. Some of the information contradicted itself regarding nutropenia, which made me suspicious of the content of other topics. I have only tried one of the recipes and didn't care for the taste.

This is a useful cookbook for reference, but it is not something that I feel is absolutely necessary in my cooking library. As a regular cook and a breast cancer patient, I found the recipes to be basic modifications of ordinary recipes.

If you are struggling with a specific side effect of cancer, then this book does offer helpful organization of foods/recipes for that purpose. It is useful in that way. On the other hand, I think most cancer patients find a core group of foods that they tolerate well, and stick with them through treatment. Also, talking with other patients and reading internet articles has been more useful to me than this cookbook. Sorry -- but I really think this is just another way to market something to cancer patients. We're vulnerable once we're diagnosed, so watch out.

I gave this book to my grandmother. It has tips on dealing with nasea, how to prepare food so it doesn't taste metalic, etc... Lots of real and useful information for getting proper nutrition. My grandmother wasn't in the right frame of mind to accept the information. Good food will greatly contribute to our health and well being, I'm sad she could not allow herself this. It is a great book without being to new agey- after all it's by America's kitchen sweetheart, Betty Crocker. How more traditional can you get? Best of health to you and yours.

    We're generally big Boynton fans at our house, but I am very glad that we previewed this title from the library. I was looking for a book to complement Pajama Time and Hey! Wake Up! seemed like an appropriate title. But like another reviewer, we didn't really like the "Ew" comment about the broccoli stew nor the large animals being told to go do big guy things. Perhaps older children would find this amusing, but I was choosing a book to read aloud to a baby - a book that would be read dozens if not hundreds of times over the next few years - and I really didn't want to reenforce the idea of not liking something without even trying it nor that one could be too big (or too small) to do something. Sorry, Sandra...this one is not becoming part of our library. On the other hand, in the Broccoli song on Dog Train: A Wild Ride on the Rock-and-Roll Side (Book & CD), after much protest, the child says "Yum" [We love all three of Boynton's musicals for children]. Likewise for a more positive message about size try Jez Alborough's Hit the Ball, Duck! where after being declared too small, Frog ultimately saves the day and shows that he isn't.

    Catchy rhymes make this an endearing book. Kids get a laugh out of "broccoli stew". A typical book for Boynton.

    This is the second of three books I read to my infant son each morning as part of his waking routine. (Another Boynton favorite, "Snuggle Puppy," is the first book I read.) It's such a precious way to start the day by watching his eyes light up and his grin grow wider as we read through these sweet books. I especially enjoy the cute placements of "ew" in the rhyme.

    A little disappointing after reading Barnyard Dance, but a good rhythm none the less. I don't like the "ew" in reference to broccoli stew. I guess I'm for encouraging kids to eat their vegetables. Also, the small animals tell large animals to go do big guy things because they're too large. I don't like the implication there either (no, I'm not large).

    It's hard to say that a book is not good. This book for me is good but my daughter is not interested at all.

    I LOVE this book! It's just so nice to be able to grab a cookbook when you're in a huge hurry for dinner to be ready fast, that provides you wonderful menus and easy directions for meals in no time flat. The food is wonderful and there are even recipes for making them a little less fattening. If you can't find it here on amazon, check ebay and oxmoorhouse.com. You can almost always find one on these two sites.

    This was a gift from my mother, and I have tried MANY of the recipes-- all of which have been easy & delicious. My sister is addicted to hers as well, and I plan to buy another copy as a wedding gift.

    I have only had this book for a week and have already made 5 recipes from it! Very simple, quick recipes that taste great. I highly recommend it!

    This cookbook is full of quick easy recipes for those who dont have alot of time during the week to cook elaborate meals. Although some of the recipes will make it seem to others as if you spent more time than you did. About 90% of the recipes have pictures associated with it so you can see what your end result should look like. A couple of my favorites in this book include, easy enchiladas, oriental burgers, and nacho chicken. And for those who like dessert, might I suggest, easy brickle cake.
